Agreed. You could sense his nerves early on in the 1st but he settled in and played a very sound two way game. Everyone knows the offensive upside but I thought he showed he can play a strong defensive game and took less risks then what we typically see with the Wildcats and was effective. Overall he looked good last night.

Overall he looked good last night. And also the guys he was playing against are all pretty fast - so a few times he had to get back in position after a turnover at the other end he looked really responsible. He would get back in play and make a play to dampen a scoring chance.

You folks have a good one in Morin. He needs two more points for 100 on the career. 28 career goals is tied for 4th best in Wildcats history, and he isn't done his 17 year old season. He's extremely good offensively for being so young. If you are in a position to go for it in two years, you'll have a quarterback on defense that is way above anything any other team will have.

They would be crazy not to go for it with Morin at 19. At his current development he could have more points than Keith Yandle (at 19) as 18 year old which is crazy to think about given with Yandle had as teammates. His defensive game still needs some work, and decision making coming out of the zone (his turnover vs the Moose last sunday for example), but its obvious to me from watching him he's working on stuff that the scouts will be looking for. His physicality has completely changed from as a 16 year old. I'm guessing they will put a bid in for the 2025 Memorial Cup built around: Steinman/Auger/Loshing as 20s Morin/Lounsbury/Mercier/Grenier as 19's Smith/Gendron as 18's I expect the other 2 bids to be Rimouski & Cape Breton. Rimouski has a nice chunk of 2005 born players that line up for that year, but their building is what would hold them back. Given Monctons recently World Jr hosting they would definitely have the edge. Although I'm not crazy about the over the top all in that would come from hosting, and they will have some work to do to get that roster built.

Yah if Moncton want the Memorial Cup in 2025 they have some nice pieces already in place and some good picks coming up. Will those picks be ready for 2025 or will some talent have to be moved for immediate help? Might have to get lucky and have some talent be able to produce right away. Mathieu Cataford and Dylan MacKinnon would look great on that team. Moncton should have the edge on a 2025 Memorial Cup bid. If Rimouski has the team they'd be the biggest competition. I believe Cape Breton have already been told Center 200 needs a major renovation to be considered for the Memorial Cup. Chicoutimi is in the conversation as well, but what is the appetite for hosting the Memorial Cup in an arena built in 1949 that has Olympic ice and seats 3600 (4600 with standing room)?

Morin doubled his production over last year so if he doubles it again next year and doubles it again the following year, you're looking at roughly 240 points in a season. Obviously he'll miss some games for the WJHC but 200 points for a dman in 50 something games is still pretty good.
In all seriousness, it's crazy how productive he is. He isn't flashy at all. You think of QMJHL offensive d-men and you think of guys like Letang and Yandle and they were such good skaters. Morin doesn't have their skating but his hockey IQ and incredibly accurate wrist shot create so much offense.
He's far from perfect, he still makes sloppy plays like any other 17 year old dman but unlike some people on the team, he cares. You can see how frustrated he gets when he returns to the bench after a shift. To me, those are signs that he really wants to be perfect and I assume he's going to everything he can to make it to the next level.

The thing is now that Morin is playing top pair minutes including PP and killing penalties , word is out how good his development is progressing and people are watching him all the time when is on the ice , he does make mistakes but is getting noticeably better. He is good in all zones and can be physical , but sometimes when he is on the ice you don't really notice him ! as a D-man that can be a good thing, last time I checked he leads all QMJHL D-man in goals (20) on a .500 team . When you really start watching a player enough you will notice their mistakes ! theqmjhl.ca/stats/players/202/1/active/defencemen

I think everyone on this board is smart enough to appreciate what the Cats have in Morin. He makes mistakes because he plays 25+ minutes a night and he's 17 years old. He still makes a lot less mistakes than his 20 year old D partner. As I also mentioned, without knowing the kid, he seems to have a great attitude. I could be wrong but he seems more like the guy who will be hitting the gym back home this summer rather than go out partying every night with his buddies he hasn't seen in 10 months. The record for goals by a Cats dman is 25 and that was a 19 year old future NHLer on a VERY stacked team that went on to win the president's cup. What Morin is able to do at 17 on a mid-pack team is MUCH more impressive IMO.

So far this playoff's Morin is leading all Qmjhl defenceman and his team in points. You hardly notice him when he is on the ice but always makes great plays, no wonder he has moved up on Button's CSB list
