It would be about 6+ months early from when you usually see that announced but at the same time I don't know what else it could really be. It actually isn't the worst idea in the world to announce it prior to the draft/euro draft if you want to give some extra incentive for players to report I suppose.

This is the correct timing for a Memorial Cup bid. Teams usually announce their intentions right before the playoffs start to try to boost playoff ticket sales. In 2006,Moncton announced its plans to bid in November 2004.

In 2006,Moncton announced its plans to bid in November 2004. I can't find a single article from any team announcing a Memorial Cup bid 2 years away to sell playoff tickets. Its almost always in November the season prior. I doubt anyone would buy playoff tickets this year to secure a seat for the memorial cup 2 years away. There's tons of seats available. In saying that its still possible that's what the announcement is, mostly because I don't see what else it could really be. Sometimes these announcements get overhyped. For all we know they are announcing the retirement of JR after this season.

Could it be the 2024 CHL Top Prospects game? The 2023 CHL Top Prospects game was played January 25th 2023. The announcement of who was hosting the game, was made on September 21 2022.

New team branding/uniforms?? That would make my day. The Wildcats have probably the worst uniform in the CHL, and that's after having improved them in the most recent iteration, but I feel like Irving has way too much attachment to the Wildcats name/logo etc to ever change. I mean the team is in Irving Colors essentially.

Sure, but Irving Oil is the most recognizable company under the Irving Group of Companies (an umbrella JDI is also under) and run by Roberts Uncle. Irving Oil sponsorships have been plastered all over everything since the inception of the team, including gas coupons for season ticket holders, Zamboni sponsorships etc. The idea that those colors aren't inspired by Irving Oil is just a bizarre argument to bother getting into. Then again I'm still waiting to see the giant list of teams who all announced their memorial cup bid right before playoffs to increase ticket sales.

I'm still trying to understand how the league didnt get in bed with the government regarding the fighting ban when every Quebec based team got $1 mil each and the league and government admit the fighting ban was tied to that money.
