Well Monday came and gone and still no press release from team about Goyens firing , I mean news broke Saturday morning and they can’t come up with a press release ? Rough times The fact they were all in one spot for multiple consecutive days just adds to the absolute bush league feel these guys are cultivating. We got crying about the building, though. |

Go find the next Vincent. Lets not forget that even he left under questionable circumstances because of how remote we are for someone from Quebec. Are there really no young promising Maritime head coaching prospects? That would be my focus as at least the culture shock is way less. The only reason Pascal Vincent's time is reflect upon fondly is the complete gongshot we've had since. The bar was set so low that even him walking over it is viewed as success. But he didn't reach his intended heights, either. He walked to that line and closer than anyone else ever did...but still couldn't get us over the hump. |

I am on Board with a very good up and coming MJHL Coach getting a shot , wasn't there a guy who you had your eye on before they brought in Grimes ? I was told that several JR A Coach's have been offered various jobs in the past but for various reasons have said no . |

It almost seems like when you don't have a head coach in place, nor a head coach available to identify needs/players who might fit into their systems and plans...
You wind up with a GM drafting the kid in the first round (who you could have probably gotten in the 2nd-3rd), whos dad drafted his kid in the first round, because who the hell else would you possibly draft?

Why do they announce how many resumes are coming in? This isn't a cashier job at Sobeys. It's one of 2 major junior head coaching jobs available in the province. One of only 50 or so in the entire country.
You should have the people identified that you consider candidates. You should be setting up meetings with those people or working through the proper channels to get permission to do so.
Are we really supposed to believe that our owner and GM are sitting in a room reviewing the skills section of a resume?
"This guy coached at the Canada games...but his formatting is crap...another through the paper shredder"

That article written by Jeremy was very well done , eagles desperate need of stability behind bench is an understatement, management has to get it right this time It was a good article. Really highlighted how poor this has been run the last 4 years. That many people rotating through your head coaching job of all things is just brutal for the players. Constant new direction. Constant change. No stability. In a league of kids. This really needs to be done right. |

I have to give the Eagles a bit of a free pass on the Goyens hire. To JB's point, there was no real need for a resume with this guy, he came highly recommended, his references were top notch and he would have spun the heads completely around of anyone sitting in the room during the interview.
The guy can talk hockey, almost in riddles at times. I can see how his candidacy looked very appealing early on, hell I was caught in the headlights myself.
But, when the X's and 0's wore off, there was not much substance there and his ability to create a true team atmosphere with his players and staff was not existent.
I guess where they messed up was not forcing the candidate to move here, we could have avoided the hire. It's a must, so doing it right this time has to start with the willingness to change your address or hire local!

We don't need someone living here 12 months per year and putting down roots forever. But we do need our coach(and GM) and ideally their family to be in this market where the team spends so much of its time when its not on a bus. I think the addition of a pile of veterans didn't help Goyens command of the room as well. If we were confused by some of the moves...imagine if you were a Goyens expecting a 2-3 year rebuild focused on that 2022 1st round and suddenly you're acquiring vets and preaching short term success. The first year of developing a core was blown up before December rolled around. |

Goyens was a Flat Out Analytics Guy but Not a Heart and Soul Guy.........sad thing is that Analytics seem to be front and center in all Sports now . Funny how Simon didn't mention about cutting a cheque for his Head Coach .........to keep his Chief Advisor Happy , when talking about paying All the Bills.
