You guys will love Ruccia, hard worker, smaller frame but capable of stealing games as shown this season.
Career numbers aren't amazing but considering the quality of the teams he played on through his 16/17/18yo seasons, I think his career progression has been pretty good.
Hulton brings in a potential top 5 goaltender in the league this season for a 2nd and 5th, and CB frees up a much needed OA spot. Great deal for both sides.

Costly enough considering Ruccia is a 20…..but he is good. We know Jim likes to be strong in net.
It is a good point that is made….maybe Bickle has other plans and was not looking to return?

Surprised when I heard the Islanders were the team that traded for Ruccia, but make no mistake he is a top 5 goalie in the league and he can win games on his own.

If Bickle didn’t want to return then it makes it a little bit easier to swallow…if this is just a straight upgrade Ruccia for Bickle then I don’t like giving away the assets.
The way things have gone the past few months, it seems like Jim wants to push for a lot more success….which is certainly obtainable, but at what cost.
But who knows, maybe Ruccia plays lights out and we flip him at the deadline for more than we paid 🤷🏽

Hard to justify in my opinion
Solid goaltender no doubt but further depleting the draft cupboards to replace an in house option makes no sense

Ruccia has proven himself to be a great starter in this league, at least now we have a solidified #1 in net.

Not disagreeing with the cost or the quality of the player acquired… only with further depleting cupboards to add players who can only be here for a season we can’t legitimately contend in

Islanders General Manager Jim Hulton announced Wednesday afternoon that the team has acquired 20-year-old goaltender Nicolas Ruccia from the Cape Breton Eagles.
In exchange, the Islanders will send a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Cape Breton.
This deal seemingly solidifies the Islanders crease for the 2024-25 season; fans will likely see a Donald Hickey and Ruccia tandem between the pipes.

If you want an older goalie there will absolutely be some available during training camp on waivers. No reason to give up more picks to bring us from 16th in the league to 14th...

Is there any chance one of the picks comes back for a player? I’m sure it’s unlikely…but they say the deal will become official August 1st (when the trade period opens up).
I believe only 20 year olds can be traded outside of the trade periods…so they couldn’t actually announce a player going the other way?
Again, probably very unlikely but just a thought

The rebuild was the last two years, we are out of the "bad" window I think now. It's time to start rising up the standings. I think you're being a bit harsh on how the team will do. Hughes has shown he's a strong power forward who I think could put up better numbers than people expect. Say Kearsey, Butler put on some muscle, Butler could score 70 pts. Shields, Michaud, Conrad, Campbell, Flanagan all take steps forward next year as well as Gorianov, who scored 30 goals last year without power play time, Isles could easily be in the top half of the league next year. Have some faith man.

-Sly Couturier
"This was a very hard decision to make, as Nicolas has been a huge part of our organization for the past four years. I am happy that we were able to come to an agreement that will keep him in this league for his final season. We can't thank him enough for all he has done for our team," said General Manager Sylvain Couturier.

If Bickle was planning on coming back…this is just stupid. Unless there’s a trade for him in the works. I dont get it atm.

Hard to justify in my opinion Solid goaltender no doubt but further depleting the draft cupboards to replace an in house option makes no sense I saw something similar to this coming for a while. Hulton loves his veteran goaltenders. With so many high-end 20 goaltenders available, it was inevitable he was going out and getting one. It is a bit steep considering the Islanders lack of assets... but this will make the Islanders more competitive this year.
