Ritchie Thibeau has accepted a senior position at JD Irving I fully expect the next coach to be HC/GM at this point Yup. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have someone in mind and moving Ritchie to JDI was all a ploy to get it done.

If they do indeed want 2 separate people which I can’t see, I wonder if Rick ends up taking over or just stays as the assistant.

It will be interesting to see if this shakes up some of the rumoured off-season moves that were being reported as a done deal?

I personally wonder if health wise he has any interest in the job. He's 65 and in recovery from multiple myeloma. Not sure if he has the energy for long road trips to Quebec at this point in his life.

My only concern with bringing in a big name is, you have a better chance to win but it's usually an all in year followed by a painful rebuild because big name guys are not here long term.
I would prefer to have kept RT with a young coach who can hang around 4-5 years

Ritchie Thibeau’s last day with the Wildcats is May 6th.
Gardiner MacDougall will be at the U18s which ends May 5th.
Something to keep an eye on or just a coincidence?

But at some point, MacDougall must be close to meeting university retirement and pension eligibility … at which point, security obtained, maybe he is up for a new adventure? I still say he would make a good hire for the Senators or Sabres …

It does sound like that's not going to be the case though so if they want a big name coach but a GM who will still be around after next season then I have no problem with that.

Likely just a coincidence because I don’t see him leaving unb but one can always hope until there’s someone hired in place Gardiner is a very interesting possibility. He’s rebuffed all previous recruitment offers and always chose to stay at UNB, but did last season’s perfection give him a desire for a new challenge? I mean, how do you follow up as close to a perfect season as UNB just had? An undefeated National Champion that didn’t give up a goal in the Final Tournament against the top teams from across the country. That’s why this rumour might just be crazy enough to be true with all the circumstantial evidence. But could he/would he be able to work for Robert? I’m not sure, but it is exciting to think about. And I’m sure it wouldn’t be a 1 year contract if it is in fact him.
