Let’s say they both show up, does that make grenier expendable as a potential asset to help land a forward? Morin-MacKinnon Johansson-AK AFG-Mullen(doubt he signs to be the #7) I dont know why you would trade Grenier to make Mullen 6th. I'm sure he signed because Mr. Irving opened his pocket book for a better 7th option.

Assuming he is coming it sounds like he's another Mackinnon type player. This D core will be much harder to play against than the 2023-24 version especially when you consider that this wont be a Dan Lacroix system. What are the main differences from the Lacroix system to the MacDougall one? I don’t know why, but this just reads like one of those AI generated questions that pops up below posts in my Facebook feed LOL. If you are seriously asking the details of the systems, then I have no idea at this point … but having watched the Cats the past few years under Lacroix, and having seen the success MacDougall has had for the past 20 plus years at UNB, I think it is pretty safe to expect a vastly more structured system this season.

How much of that is the WC having a young team and UNB having a powerhouse team in their league?

Danny Flynn used to say "I am a better coach when I have better players".

I feel like AK was a shot in the dark i cant see him reporting to the CHL anyway It seems like a strange pick. 1. I think the consensus would be that AK is the higher profile euro, so if he was in fact reporting, why not select and secure him with your first euro pick? 2. If he is not yet committed, how do you go into an import draft with 2 open slots and not have your homework done? 3. This leads me to believe that they are likely targeting someone through trade. They could have made a deal at the draft and grabbed Mateiko or someone but they didn't. In fact they traded away Zielinski to open up another slot. So maybe the Gridin rumour has legs.

He’s apparently Shawinigan bound. I think they didn’t pull the trigger on a trade because if they can pull off getting him to report with Minnesotas blessing then it’s likely easier to add a forward mid season. I’d put the odds at 3% that he report, I also wouldn’t be surprised if this also wasn’t a move with next year in mind as well. Let’s say this is the last year of his Finnish deal and next year minny wants him in NA but don’t feel he’s ready for the ahl and send him to junior for his 19 year old season.

It seems like Moncton is the only team, at least in the maritimes, that hasn’t had their GM make any comments on their picks. It’s pretty embarrassing how dog crap the organization’s communications are. How do they expect anyone to care about the team when they can’t even be bothered to put out a one sentence statement about the guys they picked. Import Draft recap with Taylor MacDougall.

Assuming MacDougall runs his system (and why wouldn't he), Moncton will play a high pressure forechecking game where they rely more heavily on the D taking care of their own business. I expect something resembling what SJ played at the Memorial Cup in 2022. You should be able to find some YouTube videos of the games. Moncton is close to being able to play that system the way SJ did. Right now, I think Moncton are clear favorites to win the Q.

Moncton would be stupid to trade for Mateiko on Thursday, because if they wait until camp and declare Kiviharju a no-show, they can protect him for the year and have 2 imports. Depending on Moncton's desire to make a deal, that could be as early as approximately two weeks from now (the day after players have to report) or it could run into the season. Given that there has always been talk that he could be a next year option, it would make sense to draft him, keep his rights and try to get him here for next year without having to play short an import.
