The Cats have signed free agent Charlie Lavigne, which was rumoured a couple of days ago, and he will apparently start tonight's game ... www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid%5B%5D=96562Probably the front runner to backup Riopel, a 19 year old with some OHL experience, and pretty good stats, albeit in limited action on a strong team.

He had very good numbers last year for Kitchener in a limited role ... playing behind a 20 yr old #1 ... John Murray. Kitchener was a strong team with a 0.721 W% and second best (I think) GA on the season with 187. His solid numbers would obviously be a reflection of the strong team he played on. He only played in 12 games even though it seems he and Murray were Kitchener's goaltenders all year.
I'm not sure why he is getting bounced out this year ... and not sure why he would have cleared OHL waivers ... there must be at least one OHL team that he would be an upgrade on the goaltending. That aspect doesn't seem to indicate that he can live up to his solid numbers on a weaker/younger/rebuilding team.
On another note ... if Lavigne is getting the start tonight then I expect that Flynn isn't very interested in Dupuis.

We play Saturday night, I would expect he will get that start..

Interesting turn of events as Kitchener signed Josh Unice and he is a guy that the Cats went hard after but, he decided on the Rangers.

Lavigne being 19 is only a small concern, unless one of the other 5 guys is as good as him, he should be kept. He'd probably just be here for a year, but the other guys are not high upside prospects. Maybe having him pushes Rio a bit more like Sniderman last year, then you bring in a young guy next year at the draft(1992 or 1991). Rio could even play at 20, he is not drafted by an NHL team at this point so he could be around for the "big years" in 08-09 and 09-10.

If it doesn't work out with him, I hear Brant Miller is still available

If it doesn't work out with him, I hear Brant Miller is still available We already have Miller in camp ... he is in charge of laundry after practice and home games ... just a part time job ... nice kid. Check the webcasts when they start up ... you'll probably see him behind the bench during home games, singing the national anthem at the top of his lungs.

That's a bit harsh considering he carried the Titan further in last year's playoffs than either one of Moncton's keepers did for their club. Show some class, Steve. Like him or hate him, that's a cheap shot

Very impressive performance by Lavigne tonight. That's the best I've seen from any of the goalies so far this camp. He didn't seem nervous at all. I think he could be a good solution for the short term fix the cats need in nets. Especially since he already has major junior experience as a back-up, so he probably understands how to handle the role and could support Riopel.

I was really impressed with Lavigne. I thought he played really well. He did allow one weak goal, but other then that, he played great. I think he is now the frontrunner for the backup job. I think he pretty much guarantees that Sniderman will not be with us this year. Lavigne played great in the shootout as well, I think all shootouts, the other team is cursed by the number 35.

Does anyone know how many Veterans were playing last night on both teams? Still many cuts to make???
