Im going to clear this up once and for all. The official rule is if you are within a sticks length you can finish the check. Thomas was like 2 or 3 sticks away. Dirty hit. The "official rule"? Which rule book are you getting this from? IMO, it was borderline late. In the youtube video, he's hit about 2 seconds after he makes the drop pass, and it's in slow motion. Real time would be 1 second, tops. But the ref put his arm up right away. It wasn't like he waited until after he realised the Moncton player was hurt. It was borderline late, but with an injury occuring, it was probably the right call.

IMO this statement is absolutely right the ref didn't wait he called it right away and the hit was not terribly long after the drop pass.

I think were starting to forget an important point here. The penalty was for charging. Meaning that if the player had the puck, didn't have it, the hit was late, etc. is totally irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that in the judgement of the referee, Thomas really let himself go after the player, to a point where he considered it was dangerous enough to warrant a 5 minute major and a game expulsion.
If the question was about the moment when the hit took place, then the ref would have called either roughing or interference. But the call was charging. Now I doubt that there will be a suspension, considering the only thing wrong with the hit was the fact there was charging involved and if the helmet had stayed on, things would have seemed a lot less worst.

It was a bit of a greasy hit but if the got 5 and a game that was enough.

Having been there, after the hit I thought it was clean (as in no elbow thrown) but it certainly was a charge, and certainly was late. Watching the video of it, I still feel the same way.
Thomas deserved the game misconduct and penalty he got. I don't think he deserves more than that but with how things are these days I could see the league giving him a 1-gamer for it.

Fuck do you read? He was obviously 2-3 stick lengths away. That is a late hit. Whether i was there or not. How about a link to this stick distance rule so we can read it. It was a charge. There will be no suspension. The Moncton player turned his head back to watch his teammate. He'll have to correct that habit pdq.

At that point he's skating hard, puck is long gone and he keeps skating hard. Definite charge and pretty late. I can't see what people are arguing about. Only thing questionable is if he'll get suspended or not, I don't think he will. I wasn't there but I'm sure he didn't question the ref on the penalty.

It's two strides not two stick lengths but I guess if you measured out a stride it would be around a stick length . So there is no "stick" rule but what he is saying isn't totally wrong.

Yeah he took one stride at the blueline that's not called skating hard if that was the case his feet would still be making strides which they are not so the statement that he is skating hard is off the mark. There was about a second between the time he dropped the puck and the time the hit happened. Never heard of the stick rule my bad for not learning the rules I've already stated before he got a 5 minute major which is all he deserves.

My biggest concern out of all of this is that no one from the Cats went after Thomas after that hit. I don't care if it was a dirty or a clean hit, (our player got his clock cleaned plain and simple) but someone from the Cats had to send a message to Thomas..... Nobody did??
Moncton once again is lacking toughness and it showed on last Thursday night in Moncton and again Sat night in SJ. Everyone says we (the Cats) have size this year but I've yet to see anyone of our players make a true stand to show that they are a legitimate #1 enforcer for the Cats.?? If we don't have one, size or not, we'll still get run over in our own rink.
We can't expect Moorehouse to do it all for us!! We truly need someone that will stick up for everyone on the team and can handle the "heavyweights". We (the Cats) don't have that right now and there is nobody in camp that can even think they can handle the heavyweights of the Q....
I don't want to see us pushed around again this year but there is nobody in our camp to stop the other teams from doing that, point proven on that hit Saturday night.....no payback right after the hit. My 2 cents

My 2 cents This is something echoed around for the past 2 years. It is a shame that our rookies and smaller skilled players have to deal with this b/s. What you say is 100% correct and you will probably get some heat from other posters on this board who say there is no room for that type of player on the cats. Its pretty bad when a 16 yr old is challenged by a 19 year old and nobody steps in or a message is not sent that this will not be allowed, or when a smaller player does try to stand up for someone and gets the crap beat out of him and everyone cheers and says look , he stood up for a fellow player. Imo this has to be addressed before someone is hurt seriously.

My 2 cents I wouldn't even say we have size.....if you take a look at our roster we have only Marquardt,Gomes,Baca and Barberio over 200lbs,after that you have Lincourt @197....then Pianosi@ 190lbs. The rest of the players are under 190lbs....not a very big team by any means. I think Herr will probably make the team......not because he's good enough to play in this league but simply because of the major lack of toughness.....also I must give him credit that he'll face anybody in this league win or lose(mostly lose )and he's not the type of guy you hate losing for 5minutes like say Lessard or somebody like that. Lamoureux IMPO should be a lock on this team, but it appears he's not even gonna make it.Being 18 yrs old he could easily be a top 5-10 guy by next season.PLus he can somewhat play the game an has a good size frame being 6"2 200+lbs...I would definitely take him over Maclellan who could be easily replaced with Sill and Brannon's addition. It will be interesting to see who gets cut after today.I hope we don't have another wimpy team like we did last year....it'd be nice to see some fireworks @the coliseum again once in awhile

It all depends who is on the ice at the time. We could have Kevin Cormier on our team (or the 07-08 equivalent) but if he is not on the ice at the time there is nothing he can do about it ... until next time. Thomas gets a Game misconduct and is gone from the game. I don't know who was on the ice at the time of the hit but the only name I heard besides Bezak was Mangan ... and he isn't their to be a defender. Thomas should have to face something next time we meet them with him in the lineup ... if he is in the lineup. But planned retribution is also what got Todd Beruzzi in trouble ...
