A Monkey could have coached that team...and basically every player on the team deserved a letter...they are all leaders on their own teams....but giving it to your own kid over guys who actually played on the U20 team is asinine. There were only 4 returnees from last year: Irving; goalie so no letter. Gagner; wore an 'A' Alzner; wore an 'A' Marchand; sometimes suspect attitude, benched for 2 games. So, the only guy Sutter got a letter over was Marchand, and that really doesn't look like a bad decision. I did think it was a little odd before the tournament, but not after watching it. Sutter didn't do anything to show he didn't deserve it. I actually thought Lucic getting the 'C' was weirder. Finally someone said what I've been thinking the whole series. Don't get me wrong, Milan Lucic is a fantastic player and one that Sutter had to face when he coached Red Deer but I was certain Gagner was going to get the "C", shows how much I really know

He seems to me to be kind of a "flavour of the day" player............ everyone's currently all excited about him because of his play in helping Vancouver win that Memorial Cup. That and some people get really horned up whenever a physically huge player shows the least few flashes of skill.

I always found this kid had a bad attitude...almost like he believes he's above the team...dressing room cancer IMO. And yet every team he plays on wins........... his hockey career is speckled with championships left and right. Doesn't seem to hurt his teams too much. He played for some spectacular teams. He didn't carry the Wildcats or VD or Team Canada. So you always have to be a team player. 2004-2005 year he was benched the last game in the playoffs against VD for not putting in effort. Character is shown when your playing for a terrible team not the best team. Sheppard playing with CB in the rebuilding years showed character. I have a love/hate relationship with Marchand that would get a lot better if he grew up.

He was just benched for the last 2 games of an international series........that's pretty sad when you're going into the tournament as a top 2 line forward.

You can accuse him of being selfish or having a big head, but lack of effort is usually not the problem. He's a guy that's got a strong work ethic and plays all out, that's why he got drafted despite his size, he works out like a guy possessed, hence why he is so strong on the puck.

He wasn't benched for poor play, he was 20 minutes late for a team meeting. I don't condone it, but I don't know his reasons either.

Good for Suter for teaching him a little lesson... I would have done the same. Edit: Team Canada would have done fine without him... many players could have taken his place.

My mistake Rouyn-Noranda and yes he was in the last period.

My point was that yes, he is a good player...but he never was close to being the best player of any team.

How can you rip a guy for his team selections when he has never lost a game? His own kid was deserving of a letter. Just because guys are older and are more experienced doesn't mean they are leaders. A Monkey could have coached that team...and basically every player on the team deserved a letter...they are all leaders on their own teams....but giving it to your own kid over guys who actually played on the U20 team is asinine. I think that statement is quite uninformed. That team plays so well because Sutter is Coaching ... he demands a high work ethic and attention to detail. I'm not so sure that another Coach would get the same level of play out of that group. He isn't undefeated because his teams are loaded ... he has taken mediocre (non-favourites) teams to championships. If somebody else was Coaching Canada ... maybe the series is a little more interesting ... maybe the Russians actually win a couple.

He got a good little streak during the playoffs, being fed from great players helped...he wasn't top scorer during the season with Vald'or...but he got a very good season. Val d'or would have still finished one of the top teams without him

CB fans will tell you that he was the difference in that series.
