Players from Quebec

With the recent departure of Lincourt we now only have 5 players from the province of Quebec (Riopel, Lessard, Labelle, Eagles (born in Que), and Barberio). We have the team with the least amount of players from Quebec.

Other teams with less than ten:

Halifax 7
PEI 9
Saint John 9
Saint John's 9

Teams with the most:

Baie Comeau 21
Quebec 20
Chicoutimi 19
Val d'Or 19

I guess it's just normal that we (Atlantic teams) might tend to support local players more. Here are the Atlantic teams with the number of Atlantic players on their roster:

Halifax 13
PEI 12
St John's 12
Saint John 11
Moncton 10
Cap Breton 8
Acadie Bathurst 6

That's not too far off from last year before Christmas. I believe we had six, including Eagles.

So really of the entire roster only 15 players come from our territory....not a great number.

Its too bad that we have to(or chose to) rely on Ontario players and Americans to fill our roster....but I guess thats what it takes to be competitive with the talent pool shrinking with every expansion team that gets added.

a lot of it is that you guys haven't finished rebuilding from your last run. and happened to take full advantage of the opportunity to add out of zoners.

This is another example of why I have been arguing that the Quebec league needs to change its name to the Eastern Hockey League....with so many teams outside of Quebec and so many players as well, the name of the league needs to reflect the changing demographics......

Also of interest is the realitive crowd size and strength of the Atlantic teams vs. the small crowds that the Quebec based teams draw.

What difference will it make changing the name of the league?? I don't get it, because there are teams that are not in quebec, the league has to change its name??? hahaha!

It's not so much the talent pool shrinking as the Cats have traded away a lot of picks and young players away the last 3-4 years...mostly the Memorial Cup year.

Should the AHL change its name even though there are and have been several Canadian franchises over the years .... should the NHL change its name even though they operate in two countries ? Should the OHL change its name even though it has US based teams ?

Should they change the name of the World Series even though only two countries have teams eligible to play in it ?

Its a name ... its also a brand ... changing it creates more headaches than leaving it as is does.

I think the OHL would change it's name if a majority of the support and teams came from outside the province........that is why they call it the WHL not the Alberta or B.C. hockey league......

The strenght of this league is no longer in Quebec....the healthier franchises reside in the Maritimes.....

I was surprised to see in the last draft that we choose so many Americans. We usually draft them and they don't show.

it's already been said, there's no need to change the name, but since we're on the subject:

Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League

if they were to change it, they could just switch the Major to Maritime, and could still keep the branding and recognize both territories. that'd be more than sufficient IMO. and don't start with the "but... but... newfoundland... st. john's ;D ". that's how moot all this actually is.

bottom line, they aren't going to please everyone, and it won't be called "The Quebec & Canadian Maritime Provinces Including Newfoundland & North Eastern States Which We Own Territorial Rights To Hockey League"

I think it's fine the way it is but if you’re going to change it, it should accommodate all territories covered. So the Eastern Hockey League EHL I guess would be the natural progression. But as said that Just creates bigger issues and more headaches. Who cares about the name all the clubs joined the QMJHL the owners were aware that this was the name the only thing is now with the two divisions as they are it's more and more like 2 different leagues as you don’t get to play the western teams that much.

Well why not just spin off the Eastern Division into it's own league... Eastern Major Junior Hockey League EMJHL or whatever...
