I thought that was the best game we have seen the Cats play in quite a while. They were taking some shots on the PP and clearing our zone much better 5 on 5. Marquardt was hitting again and had a very good game. Sill was once again the best Cat on the ice though. Gomes does not seem to be able to handle the puck cleanly but at least he will shoot it. That penalty against Morehouse at the end of the first was a joke. This ref needs more experience or else a move back to house league. He ruined what started out as a good game. I don't think he really ruined it. The cats only being able to score on one out of 11 power play chances is what ruined it. Agreed! But yes a lot of them were pretty cheap.. even some for them. Mind you.. you didn't hear the BOO'ing then.. .. a perfect opportunity to score a handful of PPG's is what what was ruined.

Various thoughts: - anyone else notice that Gatineau's shots "from the point" were actually usually near the top of the circle? 3 PP goals resulted ... our d-men on the PP are anchored to the blueline - other than Barberio, they all have weak shots to begin with, they have to move in if they are going to score or even generate good chances for tips and rebounds on a consistent basis. - WTF were we doing on the PK - we often had four guys packed in between the circles, below the hashmarks ... allowing Gatineau to tee off on shots from in close from the point, through screens. - Lavigne can't really be blamed for the goals, but he didn't really bail us out any either ... he doesn't cover his angles well (you can see the holes to shoot at from the stands), which seems to leave him vulnerable on screened shots when he doesn't see the puck since he isn't filling the shooting lane. Bonehead move not to start Riopel IMO - with 29 in net, we probably would have won today. - Macausland needs to get stronger to be a factor in this league - he is pushed off the puck way too easily ... - Sill played his second great game in a row ... the line of Brannon, Sill, and Morehouse was BY FAR our best line tonight - why not try them as a line on the PP? At least they work hard and generate chances ... more than we can say for our so-called skill guys. - Time to shit on a couple of guys ... can someone tell me what exactly Brenton brings to this team? Our PK is terrible, so his being able to play PK really isn't much of an asset ... it is time to invest his ice time in Matt Brown and Ted Stephens and the team will be better for it in the long run - probably isn't going to happen though as I heard he is a friend of Flynn's family ... - 1/4 of the way through the season, needs to be said - Adam Bezak is not playing up to the level of a guy who has had uninterrupted top-two line and PP ice all season ... Labelle and Lessard are much better players than him at this point ... had they gotten half of the opportunity this kid has, Maartikainen and Voroshilov would have put up stats just as good. He belongs on the fourth line - great use of those euro picks, guys ...

Just to add a little positive to my earlier rant, I found the guys really played hard tonight. A lot of effort that went unrewarded.
I have to agree about the fact that Brenton has been doing absolutely nothing for this team. He's 18 years old and already everyone knows he would be a 13th-14th forward for almost every team in the Q. But in Moncton, he gets minutes while we sit 16 and 17 year olds who need to develop.
And I also have to agree about Bezak. I'm remaining patient with Baca, because I see his play improve almost every game. However, in Bezak's case, he seems stuck at the level he was in game one, which wasn't very high in the first place. Honestly, I think Martikainen could have done a better job if he would have ever had the minutes that Bezak is getting right now.

I think Brenton is a decent depth player on a team like last year's.....but now we have younger guys whose development should be a priority (like jimmy said, Brown and Stephens).
As for MacAusland, I think we've seen flashes of what he can do, but it's true, he is getting pushed around a little along the boards. I'm not sure his skill set meshes real well with a dump and chase strategy, but as gains experience (he has what, 8-9 games under his best?), I think he'll anticipate the play better and his quickness will more than compensate.
It is incredibly frustrating to watch our passing game, both in the decision making process and in execution.

I've seen flashes from Bezak I would have never seen from Roopi. Bezak also has one of the better shots on the team.

I like Bezac too but I agree with everything else that jimmy said. There is a lot of other places to place the blame before him. I had a long list but the complete failure of our veteran 19's and 20's and the coaching is the biggest part of it.

Their play continues to improve, so that's a definite positive (I guess before last night, it couldn't have gotten much worse). Power play is looking better than it has been. We missed a few open nets and hit a few posts.....if it weren't for bad luck, they wouldn't have any luck at all.
Refereeing was interesting...kinda reminded me of the Cassidy days. He missed alot both ways; and was afraid to put either team down by 2 men, no matter what they did. I don't know what Groulx said to him right before the Morehouse call late in the first, but it worked.
Gatineau look to have a pretty solid team this year. They looked pretty good for a team that was playing their 4th in 5 days. How many minutes did Giroux log tonight...50? Just like David Krejci a few years back.

He belongs on the fourth line - great use of those euro picks, guys ... The fist 2 goals were from the middle of the blueline about 5 feet in...the 3rd was from the top of the circle. I know Lavigne was screened but if he did not see the shot he should have gone down in the butterfly and covered the bottom of the net. One the second one, Eagles did not have his shin pads together in the shooting lane. On the 3rd Lessard lost his stick and for some odd reason went to the front of the net screening his goalie(WTF??). The only logical explaination for Lavigne starting was Rio was either sick or hurt... Too bad because the Cats played well enough to win but the PK and missed chances, Clermont was solid but they hit a ton of posts. I think Bezak will begin to score more, Euros usually need 5-6 weeks to get their feet wet in the league. Karsums had similar numbers at this point his rookie year. Agree on Brown-Brenton.

I am sick and tired of the sh---t Moorehouse causes this team. Tonight he can't shut his trap, mouthing off as usual and gets the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Gatineau scored at the end of the 1st on the PP...thanks alot Chris......what a waste of a 20 year old spot...can't fight , can't shut up..........get him out of town

hey crash the net Morehouse may draws penalties but dont forget his line with sill and brannon has probably been one fo the best if not most consistent lines for the cats.... At first i was skeptical but at least he gives 110% evry shift... Better then i can say for most of the players on the team... and i have one question why the hell did they cut watson and keep brenton....... Watson at least had size and speed and had more offensive flash then brenton.. Brenton is a waste of a roster spot. i say put in stephen or brown now..... Also another thing i noticed about there powerplay... Why is eagles screening the goaltender he cant stand on his skates....
Personally id take baca put him in front of the net becaue he seems like he cant be moved.... I wanna see if he can slap it as well.. I know his english may not be great but every game i find he does something better..... i think he'll turn into a good d for us....
thats my opinion on things...

You take the heart of Morehouse and the skill of Marquardt .. you got one hell of a player. How can you not like Morehouse.. he drew quite a few penalties today and gave us the chance to try and score a PP goal. I would put his line out on the PP. They cycle the puck really well, I would give it a shot.

Not sure Morehouse is where blame should be aimed... at least he shows up to play and gives 100%... Also a comment on the officiating, I might not of seen this well from where I was sitting (will watch it when it's archived) but I was very upset on the missed goaltender interference call on Lavigne. He gets wiped out in his own net by a Gatineau player while the ref is looking directly at him, no call. What happens next? Lavigne gets pissed (understandably) and swings his stick at the Gatineau player... doesn't make contact but he was within inches... pretty close to the neck/head... What would of happened if he would have connected? He would have become the new Bertuzzi, why? An inexperienced ref who very clearly missed a call... On another sober note, I spoke to Murdock for a minute before the game, his knee did not look good...
