Tardif was weak on a couple of goals and Riopel got real nervous in the 3rd and OT and nearly gave a goal to Svoboda on his wrist shot.... Goaltenders were so and so and Desnoyers wished he would have never deflected that pass from the corner in his own net. Nice come back by the Titan and lots of intensity.... I really liked the efforts of Masé and Svoboda and the lead taken by Clendenning. Character building victory.... Tardiff played an absolutely horrible game, while Riopel was brilliant. I'm sure Rio would love to see the 1st goal once again, but there is absolutely no way you can fault him for any other goal let in, while the saves he made were mostly of the incredible type. I think he's the one player who got the most Ooooohhhss from the Titan crowd! Tardiff will have to pick up his game for the Titan to have a chance to contend. Most of the goals simply went through him. I agree on Clendenning. If he can keep up games like that one, he'll have a good chance to make everyone forget about last season. Massé played exceptionnaly well. What a pass to Chamberland for his goal. What a shot by Chamberland. Svoboda? Who's he? I barely noticed anyone of the name on the ice. If you want to replace Bartos' and Beauregard's output, I hope he gives you more then tonight. Good win for you guys though. You deserved it. Very disciplined play.

I was sitting directly behind him for two periods and most of his saves were high shots over the net which he was able to glove. Average at best.

This is just off the top of my head, but for what it's worth, I remember at least 4 low quick shots that he was able to grab with his glove, a breakaway in the 2nd period against I can't remember whom where he was down and out, and still managed to scramble a great save, and another save in the 3rd period where a Titan player had Riopel down at his mercy, lifted the puck a little but was stoned by Riopel lifting his leg while down on his stomach to stop it. So either you're mistaken, or you weren't watching the game or you're saying that Bathurst fans are easily impressed.

The reason that I indicated Riopel played so so was because of his rebound control in the 3rd and also because he was nervous like the Svoboda shot where he looked behind him to see if the puck was sliding in the net.... When the Titan started to put pressure and crash at the goaltender, Riopel got nervous and started fighting the puck. I agree though that he made some pretty saves earlier on. As for your reamrk on Svoboda, I am surprised that you did not see him play because he could have buried 2 or 3 goals with some amount of luck and Riopel stole him on 2 occasions.

I agree and disagree with the first part of your post. Although Riopel is not the best at keeping the rebounds on him, he did a very good job to control them. The difference I saw in the 3rd and overtime period is that the Titan finally realized that Moncton's defense is far from a force to be reckoned with and started to attack Riopel's crease, which proved very effective and kudos to them for it. Riopel's rebounds were usually very close to him, but before he could get his glove on it, there always was a Titan player pressuring him. It's not what I would call "nervous". As for Svoboda, I have to admit that I had some difficulty identifying the new Titan players pretty often, not knowing the team perfectly. But I was expecting Svoboda to carry the play much more often, which I don't find he did.

As far as exciting finishes go, this game rates up there with the best of them.
As far as good hockey...forget it. Both teams were very tentative, and lots of plays were totally missed. Offensively, the Titan did much better, amanaging 40 shots against the Cats. And a few of the goals were from good passing plays, where the team actually generated some offense.
The Cats had little dangerous offense despite scoring 5 times. First goal (over Tardif's shoulder) second goal, (desperation shot...Tardif too deep) 3rd goal (a slap shot similar to the 300 Tardif stops every day in practice) 4th goal (player crashes into Tardif and brings him and the puck into the net ) and 5th goal (deflected in by Desnoyers)
I was pleased by a few players, especially Clendenning, Faille and Blanchard. Svoboda is playing with the wrong players.
PP looked lopsided, but the Titan players skated so well, theCats often had little choice but to haul someone down. And they're lucky Dupuis was reffing, because I think it would have been worse.
Good to see a good win in their season opener...good for the players, the fans, the organisation...everyone. Perrault, Labrei and Sigouin will be back soon, and Tesink in a month...we'll have a different, and better team...... Looking good
GREAT START

Since it was a league approved mandate that the Titan would be wearing the red jerseys (which I found looked pretty cool looking), perhaps Moncton should be fined or penalized?

Powerplays 12-4 for Bathurst? Kind of one sided wasn't it? Was Moncton that undisciplined or were the refs just really bad? The goals to assists also seem rather one sided. Strange game. Bathurst looks to have a lot of speed.....they did a lot of dumping and chasing last night and Moncton took all the penalties of a team that was surprised with people going by them...hooking/holding/tripping.....

Tardif was ok, not solid and not horrible......I thought he should have had the one that went between his arm and body......the one Desnoyers put in, he didn't have a chance on......the slapshot was screened by 3 guys and the over the shoulder shot was a beauty..... Messier made the pass on Chamberlands goal and not Masse.... Svoboda was awesome last night.....very dangerous every time he has the puck......IMO, he was wasted last night, as guys like Mailloux are useless to have on a line with him.....you will see how he can play once Perreault gets back here.

Random thoughts about the game: I'm glad the team came back, for lots of reasons. First, the 2 points (obviously) may come in handy at the end of the season cause I believe the division will be really tight in the middle. You tend to forget 2 points like these when you are down the stretch. Also, the better team (on the ice) won. I would have been a shame to lose this because of a few weak goals by Tardif. I like Tardif, don't get me wrong, but hopefully this was opening night jitters. Oddly, he was better up close fast shots than wristers from the top of the circle with no screen Also, wins like this can build character... Ok, onto more random thoughts: Masse. Wow. Is this guy ever strong on the puck! Someone had said he worked on strength. He didn't look any bigger than last season, but I was totally amazed by how hard he was to get off the puck (aka impossible). I know it's early, but I think a few people in our hockey pool are going to regret letting this guy slide to the 5th round - he's looking really good through camp and this game specially Blanchard. Proving the team was right in keeping him. Louden. Anyone notice how often this kid had to cover for the little blunders of the extra tall guy on defense?? I'm not sure if this kid is Q material or not, but I thought he gave everything he had during the limited ice considering his sidekick and the amount of times he had to cover... Svoboda I think is going to need lots of speed on his line. When the tempo picked up a bit he was flying and dangerous. But for most of the game he seemed, and forgive this, too fast for his line LOL More later...didn't want to write a novel. Good guys won. I'll leave it at that

My two cents worth - and it isn't worth much more
Tardif was very shaky. Made a few good saves, let in at least two very weak goals. He looked very nervous, especially after the Cats took the lead.
Riopel is the reason Moncton got a point. He is also the reason they only got a point. Early on he was solid. Made some very good (I didn't say great) saves and controlled the puck in his crease.
Then with the game on the line he seemed almost lost at times. Yes the Titan were pressing, and yes there was more traffic, but...
Clendenning, Joly and Grenache crashed the net all night. It led to several skirmishes in the first period especially. And Clendenning took two minor penalties as a direct result. (One early in the first, one early in the second) That crashing and banging seemed to take its toll on Moncton, as they got more frustrated and it eventually caught up to them.
Grenache's fight in the third period was a huge energy booster for the Titan.
Svoboda was flying out there at times but just wasn't clicking.
If Messier can start to finish.... (and he did send the game to overtime but had six, count em, six dangerous shots)
Chamberland was extremely effective in the third period and overtime.
Renaud and Desnoyer were on for every important shift it seemed, and handled it well. Extremely well, actually. When Labrie and Sigouin come back, and then Tesink, this could be one very solid blueline corps. (could be - it is of course only one game)
Faille was solid, Jezegou had a poor outing. Louden played very well, Tannel looked out of place most of the night. Blanchard looked like he belonged.
If Masse can keep this up... Again it is only one game.
Critchlow looked decent, Couture had a very strong third period. He seemed to gain confidence as the game wore on.
Titan didn't give up, the fought back, and found a way to win - that is a very good sign.
The new uniforms looked great - Moncton's "oops we forgot our white ones" - was very amateur hour.
Barberio and Pianosi looked very good on the Moncton Blueline, Magnan was their best forward.
Fights were very...well, boring. But the timing of Grenache's was perfect.

To answer to Porkchop, yes I was at the game, sitting in the middle of section 3.
And Lou, I totally agree about Massé. He played one hell of a game and is always dangerous when he has the puck.
I still can't get over Chamberland's goal. What a beautiful setup made perfectly.
