I was down at every scrimmage and I thought he performed quite well as I have mentioned in previous posts. He served our provincial programs well and I am not surprised at all by this. He was in no way good enough to knock of a high paid player like Mayer but he could have been Passingham for sure. He could have played regularly with his local team and get called up for games as required. Passingham gave up an entire year for a couple of starts and chances are he will not be here next year. Utterly ridiculous post.

I think we will be fine with Passy next season. I must be losing my mind lol Passingham plays while Mayer is playing the the B pool at the Jr's and what happens if Mayer gets injured we feel safe enough with Passingham? Are we watching the same guy lol? How many starts will he get this year? 2 I think the obvious time he would have got another start would have been the 2nd or 3rd game on the Rock which didn't happen.

I think it's too much fuss over nothing... If Mayer gets hurt you think we're gonna have a backup to take the reigns? Passingham or someone else, doesn't matter much. Backup goalie. When have we ever had a goalie get hurt for an exended period? Not worth giving up much for a goalie that might be used if Mayer gets hurt. If he does go down, pull the trigger then.

Give the kid a chance before you throw him under the bus. Passy has been a total team player in his position this year and has handled it with class. The 2 games he played I thought he did quite well considering it was his first real game situation in months. He made some real nice saves and did not look out of place in between the pipes. Yes he has to improve his game but tell me what 17 year old that doesn't, His rebound control has you all turned off I know but contrary to what you think it can be fixed with some work. We are talking about the backup goalie position here, if we are looking at making some noise next year we have bigger holes to fill up front then worrying about the back up goaltender. Mayer won't be gone for an overally long period of time and if he somehow injures himself long term then I guess we will have to cross that bridge when it comes. Bottom line I think this kid deserves the chance as backup next year with the sacrifice he made this season. If he proves not to be the answer then we can address the situation then.

I'm not throwing him under the bus but do you seriously think if we lost Mayer after 2 weeks into the regular season your completely confident that Passingham will be able to carry the load for the Sea Dogs? I watched him play too and watched the rebounds it's not easy to fix I hope he does I don't have anything against him I'm sure he's a great kid but do we make him the backup because he sat out the whole year basically? Like I said already he has the fact that he's young in his favour I'm not saying he'll never be a good goaltender but will he be ready in less then one year? IF Mayer does get hurt we may not be able to address the issue when it comes unless we are planning to trade one of our 20's during the season to make up for the loss. This is just my opinion but Passy has alot of work to do and he's not getting in game situations this season minus a couple starts against Moncton that's it. Maybe it's just me I dunno lol ;D

Not that promises matter a whole lot, but did anyone see the replay of the game from Fri. night? They did an interview with MacDonald and Passingham in the intermission. In the piece with Passingham he said "Jacques told me to work hard this year and get used to the team, and my time would come next year". He knew coming in that he was here to play the role of a third (whatever that is ), and that he would see some gametime during the world jr's and that would most likely be it for this year barring injuries.
What sense would it make for him to sit in the stands and watch all year taking up that roster spot if JB didn't believe he would be here to at least start the season with the Dogs in 08-09. I think he played well against Moncton and with another 8 months behind him he will surprise a lot of us when he comes back in September. Why else would he have stayed if not to get used to the team, schedule, city and the rest?......I see Mayer as the starter and Passingham as the backup for next year, and I don't have any problems with it as of now...if there need to be changes to the plan there's lots of time to deal with it.

Alright boyz I've officially lost my mind! ;D
We could get a proven backup fairly cheap I mean we paid a 4th last year and a 6th this year for Fullerton. Seems to be well worth it to me but I guess I'm on my own lol. ;D

Yes you watched the kid played 2 games and he did fine............ if you based Dido's 3 game set on the Rock with 1 point,Should we send him packing as well. The jury is still out on the kid but to make a choice over 2 games played is rather foolish. After seeing some many of our players develop and improve their games by leaps and bounds over the off season, why can;t Passingham do the same. I am very sure he wants to be here and will work his ass off in the off season to make sure he makes the team. You would be surprised how a player can improve in a few short months Nobody says he will make the team because of what he did this season, but he does deserve to come back with it being his job to loose. This decision does not have to be made until next season so why worry about it now. Let the kid develop and judge him next season not now.

If it is a real need then address it next xmas trading period

Well IF he's the guy they should have traded Fullerton this year and gave him more playing time because he's gonna go into next season as it stands with 2 games the year prior.
I guess we'll see what happens Killer hell maybe I'm wrong I hope he turns out to be awesome and proves me wrong it's not like I want the kid to fail or anything ;D

Funny with all this talk on Passingham and questioning if he should be the backup next year or not. Does that mean everyone is sold and confident in Mayer now as the starter? I like Mayer and think he'll do good when given the job and allowed to run with it, with a few bumps in the road early, but he still is a little bit of a question mark isn't he?
Like others have said Passingham has earned the backup role, but I'm sure JB will bring in some competition for next year's training camp, so who knows. When commited to winning next year we can always pay the price to snag a goalie if the Mayer/Passingham tandem doesn't work out, but expect a high price. Q hosts the Mem Cup remember, and that inflates the cost of everything for contenders.
Hopefully Mayer/Passingham works out (and I believe it will) so we can focus on overpaying for forwards. ;D

Fullerton will play his best in the playoffs, I have seen him carry teams on his shoulders at the AAA and Junior A levels. The bigger the game, the better he plays. He is the kind of guy I would feel confident in heading into the playoffs.
