Do we still get "1 point" in a Ex game? I dunno about 1 point .. but why bother .. they don't do standings for exhibition games do they?

Tonight, IMO you guys had the better team on the ice. You outshot us, won the faceoffs, won the fights. Lavigne & Dupod played really well & stole the show in the shootout. Thankfully, Watson was finally able to end it .. The SeaDogs players that stood out to me were Stich, Didomenico, Pisano ( what a big kid ! ) Resendes, Anthony & Grant. I really look forward to watching this rivalry develop. I wish I was coming up for the game on Saturday .. should be a good one ..

Resendes #10- Had pretty much 2 clear cut breakaways tonight while using his speed (1 resulted in a penalty shot)....the seadogs tried that center ice pass to him at least 5 times that I counted...don't know if it would work as effectively in the regular season...but the guy can really move. Hard to knock off his skates for such a small player...I kinda laughed during the warmups (reminded me of A.Blais)...until he actually nailed 2 of our players ( tough little bugger).

He looked like he was in deep concentration while watching the game from the stands tonight. Wrote a lot of notes on is piece of paper, then left before quite a few of the players had even gotten undressed. Maybe just because they had pizza on the bus.

Got him from the Northern Mass Cyclones of the AJHL, he was an invite. The only thing against him is that he is 20.

Wildcats outgun Saint John in exhibition shootout
Andrew McGilligan Telegraph-Journal Published Friday August 24th, 2007 Appeared on page B12
MONCTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs started their pre-season with a 5-4 shootout loss against the Moncton Wildcats on Thursday night.
"It was a good effort tonight not having worked on any systems yet," said Saint John head coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu.
The Wildcats opened the scoring less than five minutes into the first. Matthew Brenton banged home a rebound in front Sea Dogs goaltender Troy Passingham.
The Wildcats would end the period up by one despite three Sea Dogs power plays.
The Sea Dogs wasted no time tying the game, scoring 22 seconds into the second. Ryan Sparling fired a cross-ice pass to a streaking David Stich, who one-timed the puck past Wildcats goalie Charles Lavigne.
The Wildcats reclaimed the lead two minutes later when Brad Smith banged a rebound past Passingham.
Simon Despres, the first overall pick in the 2007 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft, tied the game 2-2 at 9:10. A puck squirted out front and the blue-liner fired a wrist shot to the top corner through a crowd.
Moncton import Adam Bezak broke the tie with under two minutes to go in the second. The Slovakian broke down the wing and snapped the puck by Matthew Dopud.
The third started the same as the second. Chris Di Domenico shovelled the puck past Lavigne 41 seconds into the period tying the game 3-3.
Steven Anthony would give Saint John its first lead of the game at the 3:27 mark. He fired the puck past a screened Lavigne after Tony Resendes worked hard to force a Wildcat turnover.
Moncton tied the game 4-4 on a power-play marker from Marc-Andre Labelle.
The game stayed tied and headed into a shootout where the goalies shone. Dopud and Lavigne stopped the first nine shooters they faced. The 10th shooter, Watson, gave Moncton the win, snapping a shot over Dopud's left shoulder.

SEA DOGS FALL IN SHOOTOUT TO WILDCATS
Moncton Prevails 5-4 Despite Being Out-Shot 33-20 by Saint John
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Thursday, August 23, 2007
MONCTON, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs opened their 2007-08 season with a loss on Thursday night, falling to the Moncton Wildcats by a score of 5-4 at Tim Hortons 4 Ice Centre in eastern New Brunswick.
In a back-and-forth affair that saw a tremendous amount of action at both ends of the ice, the Wildcats proved victorious following a 1-0 win in the shootout, which followed a 4-4 regulation draw. Both of Saint John’s top ten Entry Draft Picks, Simon Despres and Steven Anthony, scored in the second and third periods respectively in what proved to be a highly competitive exhibition contest between the two perennial rivals.
Moncton opened the scoring on Thursday night, with Matthew Brenton shoveling a rebound past a sprawling Troy Passingham 4:42 into the first period to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead. The Sea Dogs were unable to solve Wildcats net minder Charles Lavigne in the opening frame, failing to score on a trio of power play opportunities despite some quality chances propagated by some excellent puck movement from both man-up units. Alex Grant had arguably the best scoring chance for Saint John in the first period, penetrating the Moncton zone with ease prior to dancing around a pair of would-be checkers and getting off a decent backhand shot that Lavigne managed to stop in the final minute of play. Despite Grant’s efforts, the Sea Dogs closed out their opening period of the pre-season trailing 1-0.
Both teams found the back of the net in the opening three minutes of the second, with David Stich scoring for Saint John and Brad Smith scoring for Moncton to make the score 2-1 in favour of the Wildcats. At the 9:10 mark of the second, rookie defenseman Simon Despres fired a shot to the back of the Moncton net to tie the score at two apiece.
With 4:16 remaing in the second, Saint John forward Anthony Resendes was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down in the Wildcats’ zone, but was unable to tuck his backhand attempt past Lavigne. The Sea Dogs continued to apply heavy pressure in the Wildcats zone late in the middle frame, but some stellar goaltending by Lavigne in conjunction with a transition goal from Adam Bezak gave the home team a 3-2 lead as regulation play’s penultimate period came to an end.
The opening of the third period saw the Sea Dogs convert on a pair of early opportunities, as Chris DiDomenico and Steven Anthony both scored in the opening four minutes to give the visiting squad form Port City their first lead of the game. Saint John’s 4-3 lead was short-lived however, as, on the power play, Marc-Andre Labelle beat Matthew Dopud with a high shot to make the score 4-4 at the 49:24 mark of the game.
With just under four minutes remaining in regulation, David Stich made a game-saving play for the Sea Dogs, diving in the defensive zone to knock the puck off of a charging Adam Bezak’s stick to keep the score knotted at four apiece. Shortly thereafter, the Sea Dogs went on the power play, with the Wildcats’ Scott Brannon serving a two-minute minor. Nicolas Goyens was subsequently assessed a minor penalty during Brannon’s tenure in the penalty box, giving Saint John a two-man advantage with 1:51 remaining. The Sea Dogs were unable to capitalize on the opportunity however, and the game went into overtime with the score tied 4-4 despite a thirteen shot discrepancy in the SOG category (Saint John 33 – Moncton 20).
Going straight into a shootout directly, as per pre-season regulations, all four of each teams’ respective shooters failed to beat their opposing goaltenders, setting the stage for a dramatic final round in which Sea Dogs forward Jordan Knox was denied on his attempt while Marcus Watson wired a shot over Dopud’s left shoulder to give Moncton the victory.
Despite the loss, Head Coach/General Manager Jacques Beaulieu was pleased with his team’s effort on Thursday night.
“I thought it was a great effort,” said Beaulieu. “I was happy with everyone’s work ethic out there, and there are a lot of positives to take from this game.”
The Sea Dogs will take to the ice for a pair of practices tomorrow prior to facing off with Moncton again on Saturday night, this time in the friendly confines of Harbour Station.
