I don't see any evidence that would indicate that making the playoffs is or has been a priority this season, I do see that rebuilding has been progressing more rapidly that I thought was possible, my major concern is our scouting capibility, now that we have a solid quanity and quality of picks do we have the people in place who can identify that these picks will turn into the type of players that are required to make us a contender once again. I hope our focus is on a Roy type goalie (one who can within a year or two become a bona fide #1) secondly that our other 4 top picks are OFFENSIVELY MINDED forwards, we have done a fair job of acquiring defensive or mucker type but this time around we need scoreboard forwards either thru the draft or thru trades that will deliver in the 2011/12 season.

I'm sure Cam will focus on getting more skill out of all these picks. It's hard because we haven't had too many high picks in recent years to bring in those high end offensive guys (perhaps aside from Andrews). The quickest and easiest way to get them is to draft them, and to draft them you have to be a bad team in order to get high picks. We've managed to accomplish that, so I'm confident Cam and the scouting dept. will recgognize we need skill and goal scoring on this team. This summers draft is huge. On top of last years draft, these guys will be the guys we'll build around to contend. We've got a good number of picks for 2011 as well, but I think you'll see some of those moved in deals to bring in guys to compliment what we'll already have.

Agreed, up to where you say we'll trade some of those 2011 picks- unless this year's draft (2010) is an outright home run with all 5 kids, picks 1 thru 37 and the 3 in between, then I just don't se eus being deep enough to start trading 2011 picks to be buyers if you will- IMO it will be 2012 picks which would be used for that purpose.

Further to my rant, I would hope that we have seen the end of the 20 yr old Cheremetiev type and that we won't see the 19 yr old Bernard type, in other words a though house cleaning of under acheiving players will take place at this training camp in August. We will have to finish at least mid pack in 2010/11 to retain and build on our fan base, plus to make it interesting for the qualified returning players. Who do you see as the returning players that will make the team next season ?

We won't trade all the 2011 picks. But I don't see the point in having 10 picks over a 2 year span, and using ALL of them. You'd have log jams thru out the line-up, with guys reletively the same age group, and some with the same skill set. Trading picks can be a way to immidiately fill a specific need, and by the time the 2011 summer rolls around, we'll have a good handle of what the team is, and isn't. At that point picks can come into play to fill holes and/or make up for draft busts. Just by the numbers up front we'll have this as the core: Gelinas, Desjardins, Lemieux, Andrews, Boudreau, MacDonald, and Randall, Bernard as possible 20's. That's 8 bodies. Add to that this years euro, our #1 and probably #2 picks will be forwards, that makes 11 as the core. I don't mean to get too far ahead here, and of course a lot can happen between now and then (guys in and out, guys not developing), but point being, just with last years draft and this upcoming draft, we'll have a lot of depth in the organization, and so IMO you'll see Cam using 2011 picks as much as a trading chip as they will be used to draft kids.

Hopefully some of these guys will put up bigger numbers. Total of 44 goals for the 8 guys with 2 guys at 12 each. Need some real offense either through the draft or trades

Cam Russell is smart enough to see the final picture and will move bodies the best value he can get for players that are not in his picture views..Also the players know where they stand with Cam he is be coming a success with the players and understands their feelings too and is always ready to work with players..I would love to make play offs always enjoyed them...But will wait if that is the route we take but really not worried any more about coaching and General Managers views any more nice to have one person doing both jobs no second guessing..or pointing fingers like in year in past who is the weak link...

I have been quite impressed with Gelinas. He is showing some pretty good stuff for a 17 year old rookie. 47 games, 26 pts, -4, on a last place team. He plays smart, appears to have some offensive upside, and not scared to take a hit to make a play. I think he will be a bit of a force at 19.

Sharrow, as Bobby has said just last week in the herald, he feels our fan base is stable between 4500 and 5000 as shown this year, as the team gets better it will climb again, I doubt our fan base is in jeapordy if we somehow under achieve next year, they will be disapointed and it may cost Cam, but the majority will be back...the teams base is solid

As far as the playoffs are concerned, it's looking pretty bleak. A loss to Lewiston the next game will probably end our chances. The Mooseheads have 19 games remaining and trail Lewiston by 12 points. Of the 19 games only 7 are at Home. Not to mention the Moose will be on the road for the final 6 games of the season. I figure the Moose would need at least 10 wins to be even close. I can only find 6 or 7 games that the Mooseheads have a chance at winning. Lewiston, PEI (1 out of 2), Rimouski (1 out of 2), Bathurst (4 games, possible 2 maybe 3 wins). We also play Moncton, Saint John and Cape Breton 8 times in total, and as our past 2 years have shown the Moose don't usually play well against those teams (might win 1 at the most 2). Other than that games on the road this week against Quebec & Shawinigan make up the rest of the schedule. Lewiston has 20 games left with 11 at home and two of their road games are against Baie Comeau. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the play this past weekend cooked our goose! I'll keep cheering......but it could be another long off season again!

But the sad part is if this team ever got its offense going they probably would be a better playoff team then Lewiston or BC. I have resigned myself to no playoffs this year. But I am expecting a good team next year. And a coach who can show he can win the close games. I think coaching plays a part in close games and we have lost 22 games this year by 2 goals or less. Cam has done good as a GM. I am hoping we has learned some things on the coaching side too.
