That why its important in this league to have one guy who is responsible for both the obtaining of talent and developing it and I think he has done a good job on the backend which now looks like its going to be alright for next year. Now comes the next part of the puzzle and that is to obtain some creative forwards (either thru the draft or by way of trades) who can put the puck in the net or can setup a team mate for the goals because sooner or later the scoreboard will determine how successful Russell will be and also how successful the rebuilding will be. I like what has taken place since last April and now he has the picks to rid ourselves of the players that the organization had to carry just to ice a team. Remember that overage players and Euros have to be impacting in scoring or keeping pucks out of our net, please no more muckers or pluggers in the 20 year old spots, they just have to be skilled and of good charactor.

I can understand how one wants to be positive but please can some of you be realistic for once. some believe that russell is the next coming of toe blake, when in the eyes of most knowledgeable hockey people , he is more like toe jam. just about all of these young players that the moose have , well have underachieved and showed us nothing.you can even say that the vets he kept on were very disappointing. i realize that they are young but lots of players the same age have produced.this team is going to have one of its worst years points wise and attendance wise and this all comes two years after we blew a tire and a year after another terrible season. i know , its all the ex gms fault. get a life and wake up.all these picks mean nothing if we do not have some one to develope them. all i can say is that toe jam must have a good friendship with smith because with the state that this team is in, he should have been gone long ago.

I don't think anybody here has said that Cam Russell is as good a coach as Toe Blake- I am impressed with his trades so far
1) O'Connor for 1st rd pick in 2009 which became Brent Andrews 2) Pelletier for Bradley MacDonald- even if MacDonald only becomes a third liner it is a steal. 3) Delmas - wow; hopefully he can be back next year which provides some possibilities. 4) trading away a pick last year (a third??) for Gatineau's 2nd this year in a stronger draft 5) trading away overagers who weren't helping us now anyways (Brunet and Yuri) for picks that will provide depth in the future.

And how about Clarke for Piette, quite a steal. How can that be classified a steal. In the games I saw Clarke was more a detriment to the team than an asset. Piette is having a pretty good year and should play at 20, plus I think they got a pick. Lewy traded a problem child 17 year old for a discount price and to me he doesn't look like he's matured any.

He's only had a few games where he wasn't smart, and the worst was the one in Moncton. He is still a very talented, tough, rough defenseman. Provided they work with him and not let him get out of focus... its a great deal. He's a top 5 pick who, unlike many other picks who dont pan out, seems to still have his skill/upside that got him drafted so early.

Like a couple bad games against Moncton should be used to paint a kid as a total detriment to his team for this year and the next 2-3 years

Yeah and he played well against Moncton back in November down here and even got the GWG.... but don't let that stop your petty crusade against a teenager.

Last time I checked this was a message board and people are here to post opinions, how the fuck is that a crusade. For every time he's scored a GWG he's almost singlehandedly cost his team the game with bonehead/selfish penalities.

So you consider a coincidental minor with Stephens and a fighting major with Lassard to be bonehead/selfish penalties Stephens is your "game breaker"; good play on Clarke's part to get him out of the game for 2 minutes ;D

Clarke has 1 game winning goal in his Q career, so according to the ever knowledgable Carey Price, he has singlehandedly cost his team the game....once, almost.
