that's the point nobody is considering in their Cape Breton is falling scenario that several teams are in similar boat to you guys .... Rouyn, Moncton, Victoriaville, Val D'or.... halifax will still be only midpack... who knows where we will be but history tells me no better than 3rd in the division and 6-9 in the league
and considering the regular season success you guys have enjoyed for 8 years now... to have a run of 2 years in the bottom third of the league is not the end of the world

CB will benefit from playing in a division next year that isnt quite as strong as it was THIS year. Like Bois said...Moncton and Saint John should take steps back from where they were this year, HAL and PEI will likely take small steps forward and BAT is likely going to have a large improvement.

Like Bois said...Moncton and Saint John should take steps back from where they were this year, HAL and PEI will likely take small steps forward and BAT is likely going to have a large improvement. Lala I agree with you mainly that our division will be weaker next year. But to say a team like Halifax will take a small step forward could be abit misleading. Now part of what I am saying could be because I am a Moosehead fan but if you are right thats not good for Cape Breton at all. If Halifax does only become abit better or takes small steps... well thats not good for Halifax in 1 way, but worst for Cape Breton. We were 16pts from the second last place team this year. We better do more than small steps. If we finish in a play-off spot thats more than abit better or a small step. If we dont do more than abit better we are in 2nd last or last place again. Cape Breton should be more scared if we are NOT more than abit better. They want the Memorial cup in 2012, and a Moosehead team that is just abit better in 2011 could go into 2012 with (Midget draft 1st or 2nd overall in 2010 plus a 3rd overall Euro from this years draft).....plus speculating of course but a very high if not 1st overall midget, and Euro Draft in 2011. Not trying to start an argument but what I am trying to say is a small improved Halifax team could be a very bad thing for Cape Breton. If we are bad or only slightly improved next year well the firesale at Christmas or end of the 2011 season could give us many assests that could make a scary 2012 team. Making a 2012 staked with high end drafts or players brought in by trading of High end drafts. I would say we would be somewhat comparable to when Rimouski was a bottom dweller for afew years, and turned around and cameback with Crosby and Company. And we know how that turned out for Halifax. I would say Cape Breton fans will not be happy if they are an average/good team next year in a watered down division. As being mid pack will not replenish there cupboards, and a good team won't get them any farther in 2012 if Cape Breton is good, and Halifax becomes a very good team.

But we plan on hosting the Mem Cup and doing well in 2012

Fill a couple of holes and you guys arent as bad as it seams. you can always get a half decent 20 cheap. that sounds eerily familiar from the past number of years where, from one scenario or another, the team managed a 40-win year and then, well, you know the playoff history....so might it finally be a 'good' thing to have a bad year and actually rebuild and stock up to have a truly bonafide successful campaign? Maybe, but under this leadership? Maybe not.

I still think that, even with the team that is potentially returning next year (without any upgrades), that we'll make the playoffs. I mean, after all, only 2 teams don't make the playoffs. Thoughts?

The sad part is we will probably do as well or maybe a little better next year .................1st Round ...6 game exit ;D ....or a 1st round upset !

It's pretty easy to say after all only 2 team don't make the playoffs but I know that's what was being said about Halifax at the start of this year and they missed them. Almost everyone assumed Lewiston was going to miss the playoffs but that didn't happen... they started well and Halifax started something like 2-17 and what everyone thought was thrown out the window.
Big swings like CB this year compared to CB next year are easy to see coming but in terms of how far CB will fall and how they'll match up with the other bottom teams is tough to predict. The bottom is sometimes tougher to predict then the top.

most people expected Halifax would miss the playoffs this year canbeer
CB is returning more than Halifax was this year
next year I would expect Victo is definitely missing the playoffs.... than you could see one of several teams miss out... Moncton (depends on who comes back), Rouyn, Baie Comeau (still a year away), even Halifax if they don't add some scoring could be in trouble again

The thing that could bite CB is the fact they have 2 JR A dmen slated to play in their top 5...and have a rookie 17 year old with 5 games played between the pipes...
Halifax at least had more expereince on their blueline and more proven goaltending.
