Might as well take a look at what we could have for next season.
Hertzberg / MacDougall / Horyl Dion / Shaw / Cuzner Bergeron / Parker / MacIntosh Jodoin / Boudreau-Plouffe / Riguse
Ellis / Fournier Woodworth / Larade Herrett
Verroneau
That lineup only has 2 20's and 1 European so there's 2 spots for potential impact talent. Other then that, not a lot of depth and we don't pick until later in the 3rd round barring a deal to move up.
Did I miss anyone?

Fill a couple of holes and you guys arent as bad as it seams. you can always get a half decent 20 cheap.

I don't think we look THAT bad, given Mario's best attempt to destroy us. Lets even just look at the top line. Hertzberg finished second (?) in rookie scoring. He can obviously create scoring chances and capitolize. Horyl has alot of speed and creates great rushes from the outside, cutting in. My only question is his shoulder. He was on pace for a pretty solid season before injury. He was on pace (at one point) for a 35 goal season. After that injury that sidelined him for quite some time, he didn't do too well. MacDougall exceeded my expectations this season. I wouldn't necessary say that his 43 points is top-line material, but, what he lacks in skill, he makes up for in heart, determination and grit. I just picture a 3 on 2 rush with Horyl and Hertzberg executing some pretty passing and MacDougall crashing hard to the net for a rebound.
And, of course, we're not sure what we'll come up with from the Euro draft. Maybe we can luck out and get another Hertzberg.
With a few additions, I think we can play .500 hockey next season.

If Horyl's shoulder is a big concern that make's two upper body concerns. He missed 17 games this year surrounded by a "BIG" team with a strong enforcer. Taylor MacDougall doesn't seem like a 1st line scorer but he might be a pleasant surprise. However, he is the most logical choice for captain next year because of his team first attitude and effort (if he is here). I think Mario must be wearing some fans down with his "We have the building blocks" summary. Compare this 1st line projection to recent past years and also notice how the 2nd line drops off drastically in terms of experience and points. Real 1st year players don't usually impact that much. Look at Logan Shaw as an example. Even Brad Cuzner who got lots of playing time this year did not have great production. Our 4th line which consisted of two 19 year olds that we traded for plus a former 1st round draft pick wasn't strong enough to play in the playoffs this year with their experience and people are optimistic about our 3rd and 4th lines? ?? Then look at the D where we project to have 2 D with any real experience. Last year's D looks wickedly strong compared to the possible rotation listed above. Finally, Veronneau will have to do his impression of 16 year old Olivier Roy but obviously he will not have the same support Olivier had in his 16 year old season. I believe it will be a battle to just make the playoffs next year. Of course I realize things could improve if both Brodeur and Lagace were to return as trade bait and if the team with their Euro pick got really really lucky. Most later Euro picks are not huge 1st year contributors. Throw in a good free agent who would be guaranteed significant playing time and the Eagles might come close to a 500 record since there were eleven 500 teams this year who were helped by several bottom feeders. The Eagles could easily be one of those bottom feeders next year. 3 seaons ago the Eagles were projected to finish at the bottom of the Q but they had players like Dean Ouellet, Chris Culligan, Robert Slaney, Joey Haddad, Nick MacNeil and Johnathan Laberge making up the 1st 2 lines and setting the example. We all remember the work ethic of that team that reached #1 staus in the CHL at one time so teams can overachieve but a lot of damage was done this year in terms of work ethic and team first attitude.

Its not a bad lineup...but the only issue is, you dont have any big trade chips to help speed up the rebuild...

Gelinas Woodworth 5th in 2010
for
Saab Evans-Renaud 2nd in 2012 (Roy)
So you got Woodworth, Gelinas and a 5th for Saab, Evans-Renaud and Roy
But you got Lagace for Gelinas, 1st 2010 and SHA 2nd 2011
So...
Woodworth, Lagace and 5th 2010
for
Saab, Evans-Reanud, Roy, 1st 2010 and 2nd 2011
If you guys stoped after the 1st trade it would have been pretty good.

I dont believe so...which is why he cost more than Deschamps, Bourque and Goulet...who all have stipulations on extra picks being paid assuming they get returned to the Q.

So Lala, where would you project this "not so bad lineup", that has about 10 unknown quantities in the lineup, finishing next year?

That's close to what I said, when I said that the team would be in a battle to make the playoffs. Compared to what the fans have been used to in Cape Breton the last 5 years that's going to be pretty bad though.
You may have the advantage of knowing about some other Q teams that have emptied the tank this year and are also in serious rebuild mode?

That defensive crew will have to be upgraded....I like a lot of the kids on your bottom 2 forward lines, I think Boudreau-Plouffe will surprise some people, I was a big supporter of Nick Parker last season, Jodoin had a great year in AAA and I think Bergeron is ready to take a step forward next season...but holy hell thats one porous defensive crew. Larade and Herrett are Jr A defensemen
