Lala, what's the scoop on Phillip Hudon? Is he still set on NCAA?

You have to take the best player available. Our defensive corps it not stellar. Yes it is good, and has potential to grow, but a big reason it viewed as having so much potential is compared to our offence its miles ahead. Now your next reply will be "exactly thats why we need offence". That thinking s wrong. If we pick an ok forward instead of a great defencemen ...what happens comes next season or worse the 2012 run.......... if Konrad gets hurt, and Clarke gets worse with his problems. We then have Clarke sent home, and Konrad on the injuried list. No we have a weak defensive corps. Whos to say we don't get a stellar dmen in the draft and trade away Konrad for an ok forward, and keep Knotek another year. The forward we picked could not pan out, and theirs a team with the defensemen we should have picked doing a stellar job.
What I am trying to say no matter how bad or forwards are the best Dmen available gives you way more possibilites

Starting to sound like CHSB there Gman I'm not whining abouyt what you guys are able to do, but you gotta admit it was pretty hypcritical in your inaugural year to bitch and moan about Esposito, then every year since, you guys pull the same shit. If your owner is willing to make backdoor deals with all these players, that's his choice. He may not even be interested in Ashley, but if he is, pretty soon half your team will be on a professional payroll...

You realize that Durepos had a deal with Moncton, right...they just backed out of it because Bussieres had more trade value...Kelly wouldn`t be in the Q if Saint John hadn`t drafted him. He had every intention of playing NCAA if it was anyone else (but had a deal with us). Huberdeau didn`t have a deal and the team signed him at the last possible minute. Phillips was already playing prep. So, of the 4 NCAA guys, three wouldn`t be in the league if we didn`t get them, and the fourth wasn`t even suggesting he was NCAA to come here.

You do realize the same thing fans of your team complained about in 2005 are going on in 2010...yet I dont hear any complaining It doesnt matter how many deals Durepos had...the fact of the matter is Saint John is doing things in 2009 and 2010 that Sea Dogs fans felt were criminal back in 2005. Kelly didnt have 'every intention of playing NCAA' He said he was 50/50 and it depended on which team drafted him and essentially gave him extra education money to report. You are saying the same things about Kelly and Huberdeau as Remps fans were saying about Espo. That he didnt have a pre-draft deal done and that Roy met with the family AFTER the draft and made the deal happen. So I guess its all a matter of which team you cheer for and which perspective you want to believe in. Here is a question...do you see any difference between the Esposito situation and the Kelly/Huberdeau situation?

Ashley - Commited to U of Maine, but i heard he has a deal with Saint John. Heard that as well. If Darcy is to play in the Q.....it will be for family friend, Turk. If they plan on drafting him, they'll need to do it with their 1st rounder.... or make a deal. He won't slip past Halifax 5 times to wind up in Saint John. While SJ might be his 1st choice, I know he's had serious talks with Halifax and Moncton. I wouldn't say it's as cut and dry as "Saint John or nobody".

I agree with most of your post...i dont think it will be a Gillard situation where you can get the kid in the 11th round...someone will have to pick him in the top 5 rounds...maybe even top 3.

This player wanted to play in SJ last year. The man behind the draft, Norm G. did not want Ashley. Gallant will not let it happen this year to his family friend.

Matheson was selected in the first round by the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. They're a first year franchise.

DO they keep their NCAA eligibility if they play in the USHL as opposed to playing in the CHL?

DO they keep their NCAA eligibility if they play in the USHL as opposed to playing in the CHL? Yes, they do, it's one of the reasons the USHL has emerged as a good developmental league in the last decade.

Matheson was selected in the first round by the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. They're a first year franchise. That league is pretty much owned by the NCAA, he must be going if they drafted him that early. Almost half the Montreal kids go play for NCAA.
