It's also funny that this story was broken in today's Halifax Herald instead of the Cape Breton Post.
I know the Post called Mr. MacDonald concerning the rumor about John Hanna not coming back and that was in Monday's paper but this announcement is a little different and in some ways deserves to be released in our Cape Breton paper.
So in summary, the rumors have gone from Mario asking for a 5 year contract to a rumored 3 year deal and now a 2 year deal.
They couldn't wait much longer to make some kind of announcement with the draft a month away without damaging the organization's reputation even more

Ohh LOVE the article on the Eagles main page
Sydney– The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have reached an agreement with Mario Durocher on a new contract as the team’s General Manager and Head Coach through the 2011-2012 season. Durocher,46, had been in the same position with the team for the past two seasons. Prior to that he was an Assistant Coach with the Screaming Eagles for two years.
The Magog, Quebec native has compliled a 88-39-5-4 record with Cape Breton and is 282-231-26 overall in his Quebec Major Junior Hockey League career.
Durocher guided Victoriaville to a President’s Cup Championship in 2002 and was the Head Coach of Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland in 2004.
Durocher along with the rest of the Screaming Eagles hockey staff are preparing for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft on June 5 in Drummondville, Quebec.
For further information contact Paul MacDonald, President (902) 567-6378 ext.23 or (902) 565-0117 or Mario Durocher (819) 876-2655 or (902) 371-4470
Anybody wanna give Mario a call in Que to congradulate him? lol

Comments from the CB post online
sadfan5 - May 6th, 2010 at 17:56:16 Totally agree with Brent Duff.Trading Roy is a big mistake.Power play was terrible and most of the home games were boring this past year.Definately not High Flying Hockey.I am seriously considering cancelling my season tickets. The integrity of the team was not as good as in the past. There are better coaches and GM's looking for employment.
Brent Duff - May 6th, 2010 at 15:34:16 Let's see ! You get eliminated in the first round in 5 games ! You trade for the Leagues leading Goal Scorer and he dries up ! We have no 1st or 2nd round Draft Picks and you get an extension for not one but two years ! Amazing ! 75 % of the people who attend games regularly knew this was not the year to throw our hat in the ring but you did it anyway and get rewarded for it . You must fit the Organizations price range because it must be purely business folks calling the shots not hockey people. I haven't even mentioned who we end up losing at the Draft , just watch for that !

The real reason why he is resigned is the price............ he is working for about 70 percent of the real cost of a good g.m. and coach combo and 50 percent if they hired them seperately. No other reason, and it helps justify the pay to Paul MacDonald who is the president but really owns nothing, a spokesperson for the shareholders and a kind of general manager without the hockey kn owledge.
The shareholders dont really care about the hockey so much, they dont want to lose money and this affects thier decision making. Good thing they have no competition for hockey in sydney

I really believe there will be quite a few fans not renewing their season's tickets next year because it's really the only way fans can voice their displeasure with the many questionable decisions (I'm being kind!) of the past year.
Maybe someone can start a pool to predict the change in season ticket sales for next season?

ahh cant wait for the attendance figures at the begining of the year, Not only are fans not gonna go to games because of this ( The majority as previous disscussed ) but everyone also knows when there isnt a good product on the ice no one decides to go, Attandance drops low product in 2 years, a fail memorial cup drive/bid...... this is the start of this team outta CB in my opinion....... Good job you Fat ****, hope your cheeseburgar was delish when you made that call...... Attendance won't drop very much. There's not enough to do in Sydney for hockey fans to boycott going to Eagles games. If this were Halifax or Quebec, fans who strongly oppose decisions like this (and in this case it's been pretty much every fan I've talked to) would hit the organization in the wallet and make their opinions heard. But sadly, I'm pretty sure 95% of the fans who were disappointed night after night at C200 last season will be back in September because they'd rather watch mediocre hockey than none at all.

Good thing they have no competition for hockey in sydney I hope you're wrong, because that sounds exactly like the Harold Ballard Leafs. AKA the most made-fun-of teams in NHL history. If saving $$$ really is more important to this organization than winning championships, then I suggest the board of directors do a little family trip to Moncton for one of the finals games. I was at Game Two at the Coliseum, and the atmosphere was something money can't buy.
