WOW...
My condolences to Fred's family and the Moosehead's community as a whole. The organization has lost one of the most dedicated fans it has ever had. I am sure the games will seem like there is someone missing. I am sure he will still be at every game. RIP Fred the Moose.

This is so sudden and shocking, I don't really know what to say. Fred wasn't a young lad, but if he was ailing, you'd never know it by his upbeat and positive attitude.
Fred, you will be missed by all. I hope you get to witness a Mooseheads championship team some day from your chair in the sky.
RIP.

Very sad indeed, always positive regarding the moose, and took alot of heat on these boards and he rarely let it get to him... he almost seem to enjoy it He will be missed for sure.

What a real shame, Fred you were about as true blue of a fan as one will ever see and I always enjoyed your "unbiased" opinions and views of the Mooseheads. I'll miss seeing you at the top of section 26 and will always think of you as I pass by on the way to my own seat.
You'll surely be missed.

It was a pleasure to be introduced to Fred back in Sept 2008, ironically by a Cape Breton fan Brec7, and Fred's positive attitude helped to get through a couple tough seasons.
Thank you Fred!!!!!

This is a sad day for Moosehead Fans and this board. Fred has been posting on these boards since I can remember. He will be greatly missed on this board. Fred was always positive about the Moose and protective of them like they were his own. He did enjoy the friendly banter with other fans, sometimes he enjoyed it too much . I have added a black banner to the top of the board, and changed the footer colour at the bottom to black. These will stay up for the 2010 - 2011 season as an honour to one of the most dedicated posters Moosetalk has ever had. RIP Fred, you will be missed here.

Wow, I never met Fred either, but I got the same feeling as if a member of my family had passed away ! My first thought was it was a unbelievable statement, a mistake, still it is very hard to believe that he has passed away so suddenly. My thoughts are with his family. He will be missed on the Moosehead board and at the games by his friends.

I'm shocked and saddened to hear this sudden news, and I want to send my condolences to Fred's family and friends and to the rest of the messageboard community.
As others have said, Fred has been on these boards since any of us can remember. I started reading late in the Memorial Cup season of 2000, and even then he was a well-entrenched institution on here. For out-of-town posters like myself, you could always count on him being there as a friendly thorn in your side if such a paradox is possible. Like others have said, he loved playing that role and many of us loved egging him on.
You really got to appreciate how much he loved the role of the antagonist once you met him in person - a pleasure I'm especially glad now to have had on numerous occasions. He'd flag you down in the Metro Centre crowd, and bawl you out with that big laugh of his for the last time he got your goat on the boards, or if he hadn't gotten you in a while - he'd "brag" about the last person he'd baited. ;D Fred would always ask me how things were going with school etc, he took interest in you as a person as soon as he met you. And he always seemed to be in a good mood at the rink, even given his health issues.
There are few fans in the history of these boards more dedicated, and I wanna take my hat off to Smiley on a fitting tribute to Fred for the upcoming season. Those Friday Night Predictions won't be the same without Freddy picking a Mooseheads' win no matter if they were playing the 2009 Voltigeurs or 2010 Sea Dogs....... the few occasions these past two seasons where Fred actually owned up that a Moose loss was probable, was when Halifax fans knew their team was really doomed!!
I'm glad the archives on here show that Fred was posting up until his very last days, that he was able to keep on doing something he enjoyed right to the bitter end.
Rest in peace Fred.

A sad day in Mooseland.
Fred and I sadly never met face-to-face. We talked a lot on the boards, via PM. I remember one day during the 07-08 playoff run, I had mentioned that I wished I could be at the game, and he PM'ed to offer to look for tickets for me. I was living in Toronto at the time, so I had no way to attend, but the fact that he'd reach out to a complete stranger who shared a passion for the Mooseheads speaks to the character Fred had.
He had invited me via PM around Christmastime to see him in Section 26 the next time I got to a game, so he could welcome me back to the Maritimes in person. Life got busy, weather got lousy, and playoffs never came, and I didn't make it back to Metro Centre.
Fred brought life and enthusiasm to these boards. You may not have agreed with everything he said, in fact, he probably offended some people with some of his opinions and comments. But nobody bled red, white and green more than Fred, and this community was a better place for having him here.
R.I.P. Fred.

Very shocking and sad news. I hope the Moose can win a league championship in the near future with Fred watching from above like the true Moosehead fan he always will be.

Really going to miss him referring to the "WILD CATS" as "p***y CATS" or whatever other Chessy nickname he came up with. Probably one of the most dedicated Moose Fans you will ever have.
In the utmost respect to Fred "REST IN PIECE".......to most its a mispelling but for Fred kinda seems right.
In all seriousness love to see a Fred the Moose jersey hanging at the top of Section 26 on Opening night"
