Can he get the team into the playoffs this year, and be the goalie that helps the team make a run in 2012? Missing the playoffs in the Q is like missing the Atlantic Ocean with a rock. Only 3 teams outta 18 miss next year. And if you happen to be one of the teams that just squeaks into playoffs that have that lenient a format, you suck anyway and will be gone in 4 or 5 unceremonious games......... so if you're bottom 5 or 6, playoffs or not doesn't matter aside from the fact it gives your team revenue from a couple of extra home dates. As for can Verroneau be the goalie to make a run in 2012? It's entirely possible, but it's the least of our worries. Look at that roster at the beginning of this thread. Does it look like the foundation of a team ready to make a run in 2012? Actually it's still only 2 teams that miss the playoffs, so it's like missing the Pacific Ocean with a rock sitting in a small raft in the middle of it.

I just hope the decision to go for it doesn't happen again next year!

Rank the Atlantic Division from top to bottom. Bathurst PEI Saint John Halifax Moncton Cape Breton Saint John Bathurst PEI (if it wasn't for PEI's history, I'd have them above Bathurst) Moncton Halifax CB

I think that over the last 5 - 6 months the message from the majority of this board's posters have acknowledged and stressed that with the decisions of the past year that yes, PROPER PLANS FOR BUILDING FOR 2012 HAVE ALREADY BEEN THROWN OUT THE WINDOW!

The CHL will not give the 2012 Memorial Cup to the Eagles. David Branch makes it clear that the first essential quality a team must have is they are competitive. The Eagles are going to be rebuilding for the next three years at the least before they have a team that is able to compete for the cup. Mario trades draft picks for players like no one I have ever seen. He just gave up another 5th round pick for a goalie. We have not had a first rounder since Shaw who was ranked in the second round. If you are rebuilding you are supposed to be collecting picks. The Eagles have been in Sydney for a while now and have only had 2 years where they have had a honest chance to make a run at the Q finals (let alone win Q ). This bid is already in Branch's shredder. Let the Eagles brass continue to talk about 2012, but the conversation is a waste of time. . The Eagles brass wants to talk about 2012 because it gives promise to the future and helps promote the team in the community. It is false hope but covers up for bad management. It is merely a cover up for not unloading at the deadline last year. The minute Luke Adam made the World Junior team, he should have been packed and ready to leave Cape Breton for good. That moment was when the bid for 2012 went to the garbage. Don't give the Eagles management what they want, the numbers "2012" should never be in a post again

team will be hard pressed to build for any year without draft picks. Can't build a winning team long term by trading. Need to have solid draft picks that stick with the team for 2-3 years. That creates the word that all NHL teams are using now "CULTURE"

I find some of these posts pretty funny. Yeah i get people being upset about the way things went down and stuff, but its hockey, things can turn around pretty quick. I am actually excited to see how these guys develop over the next few years. I don't think we will be in as deep of a hole as halifax has been the past two years, but hey, that's me.

How does this roster match up against the rest of the division size wise? last year it was a big team.

I haven't seen anyone say that though(about being as bad a Halifax right now) But with what we have and where we're going for 2012....the 2 seasons afterwards could make Halifax's last 2 seasons look good in comparison. That 3 down years out of 4 was and is the reasoning so many people are confused as to this clubs direction because there's just no good reason for it to happen.

You can't build for a mem cup without draft picks! The draft picks are the foundation of a solid winning team.
