dumb comments??? When a team has a Head Coach/GM, then the assistant position is even that more important.

I'd say the assistant GM's job would be more important then the 2nd assistant coach's job in that situation....except for the couple of weeks before the trade deadline in January. Am I wrong in assuming Blair is already back as an assistant? Everyone's acting like Mario has nobody left but all I see us missing is 1 assistant.

The last few seasons I believe that on the bench John Hanna was in charge of the defense and the penalty kill while Mario looked after the forwards and the power play, but I could have it mixed up.

So it's not like he standing by himself right now.

It's not like he's working the phones trying to make deals. If we get into camp without an assistant then you can start wondering why but as of right now it makes no difference.

Dont be fooled by the "assistant" title. This hire will be very important to the Eagles future. History shows that the guy that gets the job will become the next Head Coach and possible GM. Also if all us experts on this board are correct and the year is as much of a struggle as we think and the team doesn't get the 12 Mem Cup. The NEW assistant could be running the team in a year.

Why are the TWO assistants already in place taking such a back seat to this currently unknown assistant coach? And basing the importance of the hire on something as silly as Pascal Vincent and Durocher both getting their jobs after being assistants here is rediculous.....I mean if we really want to go back to the pre-Pascal Vincent era for our future success I doubt the other 17 Q teams would mind.

Was this comment really appropriate?
“At the worst, we can start with Bearcat,” said Durocher, jokingly referring to Eagles assistant coach Blair Joseph. “I just want to take my time and make sure we get a good person.”

It's not ridiculous that he's basing a prediction on something that's been happening since 1999. Between '99 and now, there's never really been any hint the Eagles were at any point considering looking for a new head coach outside the organization.

Jack, I read the word jokingly also, but I just wondered if it was necessary or wise to say it? In one part of the article he says how important this decision is because of the Memorial Cup but in the same article he jokes about the abilities of a member of the coaching staff.
Even if it is a joke, it seems demeaning to Blair who's been with the Eagles for many seasons.
It is kind of ironic that Mario used the expression, "At the worst", because many fans honestly feel that, many "the worst" decisions have already been made.
I will try to lighten up a bit, however.

But you're taking 2 things that were merely coincidence that happened almost a decade apart as some sort of master plan by the team. If it happened 5 times since 99 then sure that's a trend....but worrying about who the new assistant is on the basis that history says he'll be the teams next head coach.....yeah that is kind of rediculous. There's 3 assistants.....so I don't get why the one being hired last is the future of the organization....if we were following the trend you speak of then wouldn't Blair Joseph be the next coach-in-waiting already?

The circumstances could very well work out like that....but if it does it won't have anything to do with how Pascal Vincent or Durocher ended up with those titles.
