Deer, the extensive search was done on the guy who was hired by the Volts, this guy came about by a suggestion of a fan who knew this guy thats it, in other words a last minute grasp for a job that should have been filled when there was a lot of qualified people. (like six to eight weeks ago)

is that official? Have not seen anything on the web or paper yet today. If it is, guys like Ellis and Woodworth should have smiles on their faces. In the last 2 years this guy has coached the defense in Moose Jaw and worked with Travis Hamonic (NYI), Ryan Stanton (CHI), Dylan Mcilrath (NYR), and Kendall McFaull (Flor).

“Hopefully Friday we’re going to be able to announce something,” said Durocher, Wednesday evening, adding he’ll make the announcement no later than this weekend.
I guess it's only right somehow for the announcement part of this prolonged search to drag out also!

Posted on FB:
Kevin Higo named as new Assistant Coach. Higo is a 40 year-old native of Lethbridge, Alberta and spent the past two seasons working as an assistant coach with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.
Now, can we move on to more important issues?

how is this not important? Also posted on the Eagles site. It's nothing near as important as the new 7 person committee being formed to run the team.

Of which Super Mario is one of the 7 ! You could be right, I read it to mean that there was some sort of committee being created to run the hockey side through to the 2012 Memorial Cup.....but you could be right and it could be just focusing on the bid itself, but this would be kind of late for something like that, wouldn't it?

Jack, I would say that this seven man committee is over 7 months late!

If Mario is involved it,s gonna be screwed up anyway ............probably a good strategy if you don;t really want to win the Bid anyway !

Question not only for Eagles fans but for fans of all teams.... has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? A "committee" overlooking things in light of a Memorial Cup bid? Did anything like this happen before Halifax in 2000 or Moncton in 2006?

Very good article in today's Post on Kevin Higo, by sports reporter Greg MacVicar.
You never know where the Cape Breton connections are going to pop up. Turns out this guy has a summer home in Lake Ainslie and married a Port Hawkesbury girl.
What I like most about this choice, as "thecrease" touched on above, is some of the guys Moose Jaw has produced during Higo's time running the defence there. Travis Hamonic was just excellent for the World Junior team last Xmas.... in fact I didn't think the Canadian team was the same without him after he went down to injury. Another guy who came out of the Jaw is Dylan McIlrath - never seen him play, and many feel he was picked too high by the Rangers this year, but fact remains he's a first round NHL pick.
John Hanna's main role here was working with the defense, something he was doing a very good job of and I wasn't sure how likely it would be to find someone else to properly fill his shoes. But hopefully Higo's pedigree from working with the D in Moose Jaw is indication he'll be able to do just that, and hopefully then some. As Mario indicated, we have several promising young D and right now defense actually seems to be our strongest point looking toward the future. With the proper nurturing, hopefully the potential of guys like Woodworth and Leduc will be realized (and Ellis's furthered)......... of course we still have a long, long way to go on depth at forward.

Like most others I have never heard of Kevin Higo, but from what I read about him it is hard to argue with him getting the job. I was hoping for MacKenzie to get the job but at least Mario didn't just pick another local guy out of convience.
When Snoop Dogg came out wearing an Eagles jersey Sunday night I was waiting for Paul MacDonald to follow and introduce him as the new assistant.
