Part of it is disinterest - I doubt he cares much about the scoring title/pace at this point in his career. He has also been focusing more on his all around game compared to what he did last year. Part of it is also that we rarely see him on the PP late in blowout games to pad the stats like other teams do I would be shocked if he was back in junior next year. This year I wasn`t at all really, at 18 he still had to grow more of his game and get stronger. But next year sending him back would be a mistake imo. If TB don`t feel he is ready, I wouldn`t be shocked to see him involved in a big trade and he will play for whoever trades for him. TB have good depth up front and if they have soured on him in any way based on his 1st camp and potential attitude issues this year, they may cash him him for top value sooner rather than later to fill some team needs. would love to see him traded to a Canadian team..... the capital of Canada team...you know, the one with the big maple leaf on their jerseys. So you want him in Ottawa? They don't have a leaf on their jersey though.

I doubt he'll get sent back but wouldn't be completely shocked if he was.
Wonder is Tampa regret not taking Seth Jones ? Was it their plan to send him back this season or were they expecting him to make the big club ?

The Yarmouth Jr. A Mariners are having an auction here tomorrow night and one of the items up for bids is a signed Jonathan Drouin picture wearing his Tampa Bay Lightning uniform.

He turns 19 next month, and next season in the Q would be his 19yo season. He can't go to the AHL, so it's NHL or QMJHL. Option four would be the Grigorenko treatment, where Tampa sends Drouin back in January. But I doubt anyone else is that dumb. I thought it was that he couldn't play in the AHL if he wasn't 19 before some date in September, if that's the case he would be able to play in the AHL. If you were drafted by an NHL team while playing in the CHL, then you cannot play in the AHL until your 20 year old season, with a few exceptions. Exceptions: You've played 4 years in the CHL. This would mean you were granted exceptional player status and played in the CHL as a 15 year old (Tavares, Eckblad, McDavid, etc). Your playing in the NHL as a 18 or 19 year old and your NHL team sends you the AHL on a 'conditioning stint'. Generally you have to be previously injured to get this exception. I believe Buffalo was denied their request to send Grigo to the AHL on a conditioning stint before sending him back to Quebec this season. Your CHL team's season is over. Once your CHL team's season is over (either you didn't make the playoffs, or you were eliminated in the playoffs), you can be assigned to the AHL.

I don't know if keeping him in TB next year depends on if he will be happy with it or not. Obviously they are going to do what is best for TB. Is anyone leaving there to open up a spot for him? I thought they were still stocked with older prospects. All the guys that would have beat him out of a spot now how a year of NHL experience under their belt. I think it will still be hard for him to find a spot. That being said, I have no idea of TB's roster or if they have any free agents leaving after this Season. I guess they could make a trade to make room for Drouin. I guess I am a little biased because I would love to see what we could get for him in a Q Memorial Cup year. Current Lightning forwards not under contract for next season Alex Killorn JT Brown Tyler Johnson Ondrej Palat all restricted Tom Pyatt unrestricted and then there's Ryan Malone who is a very likely buyout candidate lots of room up front for Drouin next year

Drouin has the skill to make it. Attitude and size I'm uncertain about...

Drouin has caught Mantha in points/game. But no doubt if decided today, Mantha would be the league MVP.

Pretty even poll so far. It would really be hard to imagine Drouin playing in the Q next season. For the sake of his development, he really can't afford to be down here any longer. If there was a greater risk of him getting injured due to lack of physical maturity, then that's one thing. I don't know if he has grown this year or not. But he was close to making it last year, so I think the "9 or less games" is a definite.
I don't have enough experience to be able to tell really how good he is defensively. Of course he can take the puck away with relative ease. But I do see him dog it back to the defensive zone still, which wouldn't cut it professionally. Could also have to do with him playing 25+ minutes a game.

There have been rumours on twitter that Tampa Bay may trade Martin St. Louis before the NHL trade deadline next week. How legit that is, who knows (according to some, MSL is pissed at GM Steve Yzerman for leaving him off the CDN Olympic team initially; again, how legit that is, who knows. He has family and a home in Connecticut, so a trade to the NY Rangers wouldn't be inconceivable). If TB does trade him, that opens a spot for Drouin to maybe stay there for the full season depending on what the Lightning sees as what's best for him. Have to wait and see.

I saw that rumor as well, but can't see it happening. Tampa is 2nd in their division and with the possibility of playing Toronto, Detroit or Montreal in the 1st round, have a good shot at making round two. Even though getting value for St. Louis might be good for the long term, I can't imagine jeopardizing a playoff run at this point. And he's by no means finished yet. He could have 1 or 2 more seasons of productivity left in him.

It doesn't make sense for Tampa Bay to trade their one of the faces of the franchise; especially when they are in good playoff position. Plus, it would be a public relations nightmare if they did. He does have a couple of good seasons left in him. The only caveat would be if St. Louis requested a trade. If GM Steve Yzerman does trade him, he better get a boatload back in return for him, or he's going to be lynched in the TB area. I know on the HFNYR message board, they have posted almost 3 whole 40 page threads of discussion on this rumour, most of it ridiculous. The rumour was started by big NYR fan and ex-NFL QB Boomer Esaison, who co-hosts a morning radio show in New York. He apparently has contacts high up in the NYR organization. It could be the NYR front office leaking stuff to get UFA-to-be Ryan Callahan (who would supposedly be involved in a MSL to NYR trade) to lower his salary demands (which are exorbitant IMO), or a message to the other GM's to up their offers for Callahan. Or Sather desperately looking for a quick fix to make a run in the playoffs this season.

Even if they trade MSL, they are not trading the face of the franchise, that is Stamkos. As for where they are this year. Stevie Y would be looking at things long term. If that means getting good players he "might" make that happen. But it isn't going to be for Callahan - that would be a rental player.
