Why am I the only one on here not allowed to voice his opinion? Oh, I understand, because I speak the TRUTH. No one wants to hear the truth.
Getting spanked, slapped, and embarrassed in 4 straight games like that should be a huge wake up call for everyone - rebuilt or not, this team CAN NOT COMPETE with the real Q teams - in fact, other than Halifax no Maritime team can - and it will not change. Seeing who Dumont has brought in proves that.
Getting Ratelle as part of the Carrier deal? Do we need another 5'10" guy who can score 10 goals? No, we have enough of those up front already.
Getting Gauthier for Carrier? Another skating d-man who doesn't know what to do in his own end - we have enough of those too!
Dumont came in to a totally broken team - and put some parts in place that worked - getting Darcy was a coup (but he won't be back), but other moves (Dozzi, Lindsay, Fortin, and don't get me started on the D) have set the team back a long ways, and next year will not be any better.
And, with more and more Quebec kids not wanting to be here (and that is a fact - I'd predict Gauthier isn't back, for one), things won't get better.
Sorry for having my own opinions - it should be noted I've never called anyone on here names the way that I get attacked for simply voicing my views.

Not sure if you're aware but Gauthier is a forward... Just to be sure, you think Gatineau won due to their incredibly physicality and not due to the fact they are just better than our players in pretty much every aspect?

I'd like to point out to you that Gatineau had a statistically smaller team than the Eagles. The players that hurt them all series like Reway, Tardif-Richard and Dunn were all under 6ft. Clearly size had major impact with those specific guys running over CB. There other top players like Burke and Poirier are experienced players in this league that just went out and proved it with there great play. It was a clear example of a more experienced team beating a younger non experienced team, with their top players out playing the Eagles top players.

Yep they were /are the Better Team ......"BUT NOBODY" seen a nuclear blast like that on the horizon when the playoffs started . The reality is this ......that was our worst playoff series ever from a pretty good team through the regular season . All anybody wanted was to be in the series in the sense that the games were close and we took them to 5 or 6 games , then to get what we got was ...... a real kick you know where . Better days lay ahead but nobody can say they saw this beating coming and to be upset is only human nature .

Sorry, typing in the heat of the moment is a bad thing - thanks for the correction on Gauthier!
We have some good pieces - Pelltier, Bishop, Lazarev, Lalonde, Levielle (to some extent, not completely sold on him) but it comes down to work ethic and heart - to see the team basically quit in the playoffs is disheartening, because it shows the players don't care. That is totally disappointed.
It was always Brunelle out starting a fight - it should have been Bishop, or Lazarev, or Bell - yes, they are not fighters, but it would show that they care, that they hate being embarrassed, that they have some pride. The compete level with this group isn't there - the skill is, the compete and the heart isn't.
In game 3 Ottereyes took a hit from behind penalty half way through the 3rd when the score was already 5 or 6 to 2. No one did anything. That is this team in a nutshell.

Ratelle is not coming here. However I do agree that Gautier could want out but only time will tell.

Some thoughts and Facts(no name calling here), in response to paulyboy:
1. As noted before, Gauthier is a forward. That really is the TRUTH!
2. The total cost to this organization for the three players you say have "set this team back a long ways" was a fourth round draft pick. Now that pick might turn out to be the second coming of Wayne Gretzky, but I am guessing not.
3. Not sure it is a FACT that "more and more" Quebec kids don't want to play here. You know how many players have refused to play here during Dumont's era? ONE - and that worked ok for us I think.
4. Not sure if we are getting Ratelle or not or even if I would be a big fan of the move but he scored 21 goals this season (a fair bit more than 10)
5. NO doubt we have some holes - the defense certainly needs some help. But the defense was very young this season (at one time we had four rookies in the lineup) but saw some good improvement in some of them (Nosella, Lalonde) and there are some assets that can potentially fix those holes.
6. You admit that he came in with a "totally broken team" but expect him to fix ALL that in one year? I don't think anyone would have been able to fix all in the time so far. Perhaps you could have - if so, some QMJHL team should probably hire you.

I just used Bell as an example - wow, others make statements and errors in here and don't get bullied like I do.
As noted above, Dunn and Reway aren't huge - I'm not saying we need a team of 6'4" players only - but we need players that play big, that play physical. Dunn is a fantastic hockey player, I'd take him on my team anyday - physical, mean, nasty, and can score - that is what I want in a team, not a bunch of prima donnas that don't want to do the dirty work.

Just a few quick thoughts on the Eagles season that just ended.Made teriffic strides in the regular season, going from 18th place to 9th place.Playoffs were a total meltdown. You can lay the blame wherever you wish, youth, inesperience, lack of effort, poor goaltending, any or all of these reasons could be valid. Ionly had the opportunity to see one game(the last one) and I listened to the other games on the radio and the same pattern developed each nad every game. Were we beaten by a better team, certainly, but were they 5-6 goals a game better than us every game, I think not. In watvhing the last game, it occurred to me that there was a lack of effort at times but what I did see was a team making the same mistakes over and over again. There were unforced turnovers in our own end in large numbers, poor passes, lack of physical play.At least three of the oppositions goals were a direct result of unforced turnoversin our own end and when we did get an oppertunity to move the puck, the opposition was right there to breal up the play. Quite simply, we were outcoached. When a coach puts a game plan in place and the other team recognizes what we are doing and is ready for us, then you have to adjust or modify the game plan, not stick with the same plan for four games and get blown out every game. Benoit Groulx had his team well prepared for this series while our kids were very poorly prepared and the blame for that my friends lies directly at the feet of the head coach. Just to also quickly reply to one of Hals questions from earlier on this blog, what happened in the room and Pauly Boy had mentioned in his blog about a riff in the room between the French and English kis. I had heard rumblings abouth this issue way back near the ned of training camp but I out no weight in it. However, I have heard this on a number of occassions since then from sources close to the team. Not saying this is true or not pointing fingersm just food for thought. In any event, it was an exciting year and my best regards go out to the kids on the team for a fine year. Looking for bigger and better things ahead.

I heard the that the room among French and English players was fine. Pauly Boy is way out in left field in saying that. People forget that Marc-André Dumont has said that the Eagles go for it year is in two years. That gives him time to improve our weaknesses. He had a young core of defense men and goal tending. Most Jr players peak when they are 18 and 19.

I think the problem is pauly you fail to grasp the concept of the rebuild. You do realize Halifax had to sit in the basement for a while before they enjoyed their recent few years of success. We as eagle fans never really saw those rebuilds, so its new to us.
Basically if Dumont didn't come here, we could very well be sitting here talking about not having a team in sydney anymore. He went out and got guys like Darcy to report, Laz to report, etc etc. He cares about this town, and this team.
A pure example is your great buddy Nosella. He was the most improved player over the last 3 months of the year IMO.
Yes of course its a huge disappointment to go out 4 straight, but this team jumped 9 spots in the standings, compiled a boat load of assets.

Vuic is an average 4th liner who happens to be able to be big and tough. It`s a nice guy to have on the team. And pointing out 1 specific moment where a fight happens while he is playing is pointless. Am I to assume there was no fighting or chippy play in Detroit when they had Probert? That is the reasoning you are using. We have won many games by a wide margin, and I have seen lots of chippy play quiet down when he sticks his nose into scrums. I have seen it happen many times - not just Vuic, but with tough guys - more often than seeing big fights breaking out that`s for sure. You may not have a use for a guy like him, but I prefer having a guy like that over a Max Lindsay by a wide margin. They had Probert because he could fight ... and score. 29 goals in 87-88 ... and played a regular shift. Enforcers don't necessarily eliminate chippy play ... but if you touched Yzerman in any sort of overly physical way ... you were going to be dealing with big Bob. That is no longer the case in the game. If somebody runs Drouin ... clean hit but very physical ... Vuic will really have nothing to say about it. He can try ... but the guy he is after can just ignore him and then Vuic is useless. That's not Vuic's fault ... it is just where the game has gone. I heard somebody else say it on here ... and I agree that the game is moving toward more focus on team toughness than on a 3 shift goon (no offense to Vuic ... we have one also). You need to have 5 or 6 guys that are willing to drop the gloves or defend a teammate from a dirty hit ... the response must be immediate ... not six shifts later. I agree that there is a shift away from having the designated tough guy. All I am arguing is the idea that his presence does nothing since in 1 game, there were a bunch of fights. There were fights and chippy play galore back in the day of the ultimate heavyweights too. It doesn't mean having them on the roster has no effect on how the opposition behaves. Again, I think MOST fans would like to have a guy as a 4th liner or 6-7 defenseman that isn't a liability when playing but can also stand up to anyone and intimidate - over a glorified Jr. A dump and chaser. It is nice to see a guy like Vuic come out for a shift right after a bunch of roughing/scrums. It tells the opposition that if they want the game to get rough, we have the guy(s) to handle that.
