Chris Cobham has left the team and returned home. Not a big loss...

Sounds like a replacement for Cobham.
Why Cobham needed to be replaced exactly I'm not sure, but that's what it would seem like.

There's absolutely zero need for a "fighter" in this league anymore. Waste of a roster spot unless he can actually play hockey. I guess we'll see.

The only time I recall Cobham fighting was when he got jumped in the home opener vs CB. He just played a role of a 4th line energy guy that didn't really add any energy. This guy seems to be all about toughness ... although I have no idea if he is tough. He is big.

Do we know how long Klebanksyj is out? We're down to just 6 Dmen without him so he may take some time away from Lukezic
He hasn't played since fighting Vuic.

Glad to see we will have someone to look after our smaller players, I thought latley to often teams were trying to intimidate us and take liberties on our smaller players.

I think this all comes about because Barbashev felt he had to fight the other night. Verrier was getting under his skin and nobody was doing anything about it ... so Barbashev did.
But guys like Garland take a lot of abuse on the ice ... there is always somebody trying to take a run at him after he has put up a few points in a game.
However, the game has changed to the point that a designated goon isn't very effective if he can't take a regular shift. You can send a guy out to take on somebody that crossed a line ... but unless he is willing to fight then the enforcer is useless. I suppose if you are up by 3 or 4 goals then you can afford to take an instigator and send a message ... but when the game is close you can't.
I could see from the 1st period the other night that Barbashev was going to fight Verrier at some point in the game. Not sure why Rumble didn't see that. Where you have a guy like Lane Cormier who can take a regular shift, they should have put him on their line for a few shifts and let him get in Verrier's face.
WE have team toughness ... maybe not the toughest team in the league but we do have several guys that can handle themselves ... especially against guys like Verrier that are just out to shit disturb. Cormier, Bower, Olivier, Klebanskyj, Tibbo, Curtis (before being sent back) are all willing. I'm not a fan of young talent sitting out while a big slow plug takes their spot on the bench.
When Lalonde and Tkachev are back ... does that mean a guy like Tibbo is going to sit out from time to time ? Olivier ? Cormier ? I'm not in favour of any of these guys sitting out in favour of a one-dimensional enforcer.
I love a good fight as much as the next guy ... but adding an enforcer is just going to be a waste IMO. the game has changed.

I agree, however maybe this guy will be a hidden gem(as far as enforcers go anyways) and be a guy who can take a regular shift, drop the gloves when need be and throw his body around to create energy and who knows maybe chip in with a couple points here and there. Time will tell i guess.

Verrier went after Barbashev because of a very dangerous hit in front of the Drum bench, not really agitating.
