I too find it quite concerning, based on the way Cam is stating the plans. "GM Speak" is usually worded in a somewhat vague, non-committal way. Cam is stating, "we will be very competitive", "no rebuild", and "Fucale going nowhere". Based on the situation with the 20s, we will be entering the regular season with only 2 of our top 5 D, Hardie and Murphy. Positions 3-7 will be filled by unproven rookies, and possibly one under-achieving 19 year old (Lovell). As a fan, I will accept a developmental year, however, if Cam goes with a plan to try and contend, he will have to use assets to acquire some veteran help. I think we have no choice but to go through a small rebuild. We may find ourselves behind CB and Monc in our division. The organization has never traded away a prized asset when it should, and I unfortunately think Cam may not as well. Fucale has one season left, and it is a season where we will have a hard time contending, so take advantage of an asset that can boost a rebuild big time. As some teams already have trades lined up you would have to think Russell has been in conversation with other GMs. Russell tends to get good return on players going out, ones needed to be traded, so if someone has talked to him about Fucale or anyone else it maybe just a negotiation position. Heard it before and when the right amount is offered they just say it was too good to refuse, best for the team going forward, will make us a better team, he deserved another shot at a Cup etc. So many ways to spin it. In any case a new starting goalie would be needed before playing the cards too early. This is not a Quebec GM where everyone is told ahead of time. Cam has made many a shrewd move in his time as GM, and I trust his judgement as things have turned out quite well over 3 seasons. However trading Fucale, regardless of the assets offered, would be the boldest move made in team history. When he traded O'Connor for a 1st (Andrews), I thought that was outside the norm for the Mooseheads. He hasn't made a real tough decision on a player leaving the organization since. I for one hope he trades him.

He's done a great job and his track recorded shows it but do we trust what he saying right now? I really hope this is GM talk and buzz word he's using. We need a retool year and this year seems like the best one to start. Then the year after maybe make a push.

One thing is for sure, this will be a proving year for Cam and Dom.
Cam will have to show he's capable of making deals for the future that hurt the team in the short-term, which isn't something he's really had to do the last few years. He's made his fair share of deals, but most were to improve the team. It can be a different dynamic trading away assets for the future good.
Dom will have a mid-pack team on paper, and no Drouin's or MacKinnon's to play big minutes when the game is on the line. Ehlers is obviously a superstar in his own right, but he doesn't control the game like our dynamic duo did.
That being said, Cam has had to make tough decisions with player personnel in the past (losing Gillard for MacAulay and going with Duke over Lewis) and Dom has done pretty well with a depleted lineup due to injuries and WJHC's, so I have faith. But they will definitely be on trial by all the skeptics.

Rumors have shown the teams starting to bulk up.

He's also made some good free agent moves getting Gaudoury to report and others, we may be able to get a few free agents too thats how the Bearcats build always have. (I wonder were Duke is headed, Anyone know if plans to play at SMU? I thought I heard that I know both Ashley and Andrews are going to UPEI?)

Is it just me or with all the rumours fling around is anyone's else dying to hear the moose do something? Add or subtract would be fun to hear right now. Ideally we get some good picks. It just seems so dead from our side.
Another thing to get read for is the final prospect report comes out today. This is going to be a big year for Nova Scotians I've been told. As it is now it's sounding like there could be 4 taken in the first alone.

Really looking forward to the draft on May 31. I think the Moose still take the best available player, but it looks like we would be going for a goalie and defense first. I wouldn't be upset to see Fucale traded for a 1st this year and next and whatever else he can get us. I hope that Russell is really smart and makes the moves he has to. Most fans realize that we have to make some deals to help our growth for years to come. Hopefully they think of that and not fairweather fans that won't show up unless we have a 1st place team. I think there is a happy medium.
