I don't think anybody would classify Cape Breton's defense as of today as great They need to add two top D... but up front they can afford to really look for depth type players to round out the bottom six Yes 1 of our younger dmen needs to be upgraded on and another veteran needs to be brought in. That would leave us in good shape with MacIntyre, Deschamps, Leveille as the 3/4/5 guys and Bell or Lalonde as the #6 with the other moved in a deal for 1 of the top 2. The only part that's tough to look at now is the reality that some of the youth that's been drafted and is developing here is going to be moved for veterans. The good part is that we have so much that we can pick who we want and move the others without losing much value and still have enough to begin a rebuild in 16-17 in decent shape.

you would think (at present) the other main contenders are Quebec and Rimouski. Quebec don't have a first, second or third in 2015. And have they even any decent prospects to dangle? Booth at 18 and donaghy at 19 is probably the best they can offer as players. They dont have the higher end 16/17 rebuilding teams would want so they are in a tough spot. and losing Kamenev and Duclair from the top 6 is a massive blow. Rimouski have a first in 2015 but again not a great pool of prospects to dangle. So that puts CB in an even stronger position at the trade table. I think that really puts it into perspective. The key thing as well is we should be able to get 2 runs out of this team so overpaying for a 2 year player makes a lot more sense. Teams want prospects but it sometimes comes down to what vet is added the following year. If you look at most of the big trades picks go back for established players. CB is a good mix and you should be equal to any other teams offers but 2 year players cost much more. One thing to consider though is what players want to report to CB. Its always an issue for teams in the Q. 2016,2017 1st rounders from teams going down the following year are more valuable. A player like Murphy(HFX) will be more likely happy in CB then some others, just for example, not a suggestion.

It's the Quebec raised youth reporting to a rebuilding team that we've had struggles with. I'd think any player already in the league and doing well views this as an excellent opportunity due to the presence of a highly touted 2015 draftee and a very talented core that's grown together the past 2 seasons. The addition of Darcy now as a legit #1 center also does not hurt.

I expect a player in Quebec does not get the same point of view. They would rather a safe host team or strong Rimouski who have shown it so far. CB needs to show it on the ice.

Svechnikov and Darcy being here shows that things have changed. Even Bishop and Dubois to a lesser degree. The teams overall standing at Xmas and assets they have means players won't get to decide which of the teams you mentioned they go to. GM's make that decision for them by doing the best for their team. I doubt there's an agent in the league that'd tell a vet not to report to CB. It's no loss to us because we'd be compensated by the other team anyway. The players only hurt themselves at that point. It's different for 16/17's going to rebuilding teams. Has a veteran player sold for a high return at Christmas ever refused to report to the new team?

I'm just glad M-A Doggy is in charge instead of statsman18. I'd be shocked if he sold out the entire future for a run this season when he has so many players returning next season.

i would love to see Dumont bring in a free agent from Ontario or out West to be our 19 year old goalie. Easier said then done but man what a team now adding Darcy.

Has a veteran player sold for a high return at Christmas ever refused to report to the new team? Yes players have not reported, usually 20s(Halifax had a few). If you trade for the player that does not want to be there it is a loss since they can drag the team down(attitude). There have also been players that say they will not go and they are traded to other teams instead. In any case the assets are tied up until June(compensation). Most players are not high end players that are looking to get drafted high or a big contract. Most likely are vets that were not good enough for the next lvl and will get there shot at a tryout or University either way. The behind the scenes is not so straight forward. I know some have said they think CB is now the number 2 team but that is just a guess at this point. When the trade period opens the picture will be clearer. As it stands now CB is 4th in the Division and should move up but chemistry is a funny thing.

You're expecting Bishop to go from 0.58 PPGM to 1.5 PPGM? Seriously? Yes. Seriously. Have you seen him play? Wether I have seen him play or not is irrelevant....that's wayyy beyond anything realistic.

The eagles could compete for 2 straight years, as Jack Bouer said, makes more sense to go get 2 year players. Eagles only have Sullivan, Nosella, Brunelle and Gray for 1995 born players... Sullivan has been good so far but those other 3, probably not around as over agers. Picking up a could '95s could put you guys over the edge for quite a while.

Yes. Seriously. Have you seen him play? Wether I have seen him play or not is irrelevant....that's wayyy beyond anything realistic. It's not really. Lots of players make that jump between 17 and 18. Even if its just a matter of him playing on a second line that's not facing the other teams top defenders, he'll have good line mates and he'll put up points.

No doubt he makes big strides forward but I don't think Clark Bishop is a 100-point player which is what 1.5ppg would be. Martin Frk was a 1.5ppg in Halifax's Memorial Cup team. Does Bishop bring that level of offence? And Frk played with MacKinnon/Drouin, which no doubt helped hit that level. now the statement originally made was "closer to" 1.5ppg than actually that but I think even 80 may be a stretch. I see him more in the 70-75pt range with top-end linemates.

Yes. Seriously. Have you seen him play? Wether I have seen him play or not is irrelevant....that's wayyy beyond anything realistic. 3rd overall pick in his draft scoring 1.5ppg as a top 2 line center in his 3rd season on a team with potentially 4 30 goal scoring wingers is wayyy beyond realistic? He has 8 points in 5 games already and has arguably been the best player for the Eagles in those 5 games. Only way he's not 1.25-1.5ppg is if our depth pushes him to the 3rd line after Christmas. Will you try and explain your comments with some reason rather then throw out comments without any substance to them please? Saying it's not realistic without saying why is rather pointless, honestly. Are you saying he's playing over his head right now or that last year is what we should expect from him? What exactly is a realistic expectation right now for someone who has not seen him?
