McDonald was a 17 year old prospect when we acquired him..... hardly what would have fit into the go for it this year aproach for Cape Breton If you can find a two year starting goalie this Christmas..... by all means you should be all over it as for whether you guys sold or not... i don't remember what assets you moved last year to acquire so many firsts... i seem to recall you got a bit lucky with the whole Nick Roy situation which gave you extra firsts.... not sure I call that selling in the true sense of the word.. who else of value did you move? We have an extra 1st this year from the Carrier deal. That's the big one I was referring to. The other 'extra 1st' is from the Roy deal. I agree that if the right piece is there this year we should do it. forgot about Carrier

Because you keep talking black and whites that don't take any variables into the discussion. Then when asked direct questions you post half pages of 'lol' and silly google images. The whole time my argument has been that these talks have been happening for weeks among GM's and that if the right players are there now we should be trying to acquiring them whether we're in 1st or 18th place. Your 'opinion' the whole time has been 'we'll see where we are and i'll have an opinion then' so while the rest of us are having the discussion, shouldn't you be waiting to see where we are rather then chiming in with 'i told you so' and 'stop calling me out' childishness? Most posters here can have normal adult conversations and banter with each other. You're too busy trying to win the internet or something and can't even follow most conversations accurately as you're too busy trying to pick out statements to prove some point you're either wrong about or nobody cares about. To get back on topic: I've never said to blindly buy either. Just said that now is the time to look at buying for next year since it can also benefit this year. That was where you disagreed with me and said now is too early and you are waiting before making any decisions. You told me I never said something that I've said multiple times, it deserved even more lols & gifs. A few more are earned with that hilariously ironic post you just made. One of my first posts in our entire exchange since Darcy was sent down said that talks among GM's is normal no matter who gets sent down and everyone is always tying to get the right players. That insight isn't earth shattering, my mother could tell you that. All I said was decisions don't have to be made on those discussions until Christmas which for some reason set you off and you continue bringing it up lol You mentioned a post I made that pointed out that my opinion was Cb should go for it next year and it still hasn't gotten through to you. Amazing. But I'm the one who can't follow most conversations accurately as I'm too busy trying to pick out statements to prove some point I'm either wrong about or nobody cares about? You don't see the irony in your own words do you? Funny thing is you keep saying you're walking away from the conversation and then continue it every chance you get. To get back on topic that's not what I said or what you said for that matter. The original conversation started with me saying Darcy coming back shouldn't change the target year from 15-16 to 14-15 and you went off about how important it was for CB to go for it in each of the next two years now that Darcy is back. Weirdly you've changed your tune to build for next year this year. I wonder if that has anything to do with the teams performance so far.

So rare I actually was hoping Halifax would get MacDonald too. Not knowing the price but futures could have been used. Even though everyone thought it wrong it would have helped having a better backup and be set in goal to trade Fucale this year to get those assets back.
CB should have looked at 19yr old goalies in the summer but even a cheap filler at Xmas would be wise, spending a 2nd or 3rd on a goalie and maybe picking up a 20 yr old D for the same price would leave tons for next summmer shopping. Summer is easier to get the stud and the MacDonald situation may not come for another 20 yrs. It still gives CB more experience for the young players to get an extra round or 2. Better than doing nothing.

IMO, the Eagles need 4 or 5 pieces to be considered contenders. We are underachievers so far, based mostly on coaching goaltending and poor defensive zone play. I believe our top six forwards are as good as any top six in the league. We need a 2 year goaltender, one or two top end defencemen and probably 2 top end forwards. If we added two top end forwards we could have three solid lines with the top six we have now plus Dubois.I believe we have the assetts to acquire these pieceswithout selling the farm, what Dumont decides to do is a wait and see what he does Christmas.

All I said was decisions don't have to be made on those discussions until Christmas which for some reason set you off and you continue bringing it up lol JamesNorris....not to constantly jump on you and take the side of JB here, but this is where you are wrong. Decisions often do need to be made before the Xmas trade window opens. Every year trades leak way before the trading period starts and everyone knows the trade details, or the main parts of the deal anyway, and we just have to sit and wait for the trade window to open for the official announcement. That means GMs are agreeing to deals well before the trade deadline starts and unless you're Groulx in Gatineau those are usually honored when the trade period begins. So how could this hurt your team? Let's use the convenient example of Baie Comeau and their players of Cadorette and Vanier. A 19 year old goalie and defenseman, probable 2 year players for whoever gets them, and in the 2 positions it seems CB need the most currently. If Dumont is not even engaging in trade discussions for those guys and Baie Comeau gets and offer today from Rimouski, maybe Baie Comeau agrees to the deal in principle and doesn't even speak to Dumont, thinking he has no interest anyway. If Dumont is in discussions with them in advance, and Baie Comeau gets a solid offer from Rimouski, they likely call Dumont and go "Rimouski just offered us *whatever* for Cadorette and Vanier. Care to beat their offer?" If Dumont decides to tell them he doesn't want to make any decisions on those discussion until Xmas....well MAYBE Baie Comeau waits and hopes come Xmas that Dumont offers something better....or maybe they just go ahead and tell Rimouski "Done deal." Again as I said not trying to bash you down here and I'm not going to get back into all the other things you guys have been going back and forth over. On that one point though I think you are mistaken. GMs don't always have the luxury of waiting until Xmas to make decisions...not unless they want to risk losing out on the players they are targetting for their teams.

Again I don't understand how you read my post and come to the conclusion that I'm saying Dumont shouldn't talk to anyone else in the league, especially when I said (now and a month ago) discussing trades is a completely normal part of being a GM and it happens on a regular basis for every single team. I understand what you mean on trades leaking before the window, but I don't know many that leaked in early October At the time I was saying an important factor in any trades made by CB will be their position in the standings and the team needs come Christmas. If Brassard played extremely well in October, November, and early December, it would probably negate any discussion made for Cadorette as there would be no need for a goalie upgrade. If CB was sitting in a terrible position in the standings, it might factor in the decision to go for it or not, etc. There's a significant difference between discussion & decision. When Darcy was sent back people acted like there was no decision to be made, Dumont had to go for it this year no matter what happened on the ice between then & the trade period. I disagreed, I thought CB should stick with the 2015-16 plan, and said I'd have to see something between then & Christmas to change my mind. I didn't say discussions couldn't take place, I said that the decision of going for it or not didn't have to be made right then and there. Ironically the same people who shouted me down and said there was no decision to be made are now saying Dumont should be buying with next year in mind. The same people who shouted me down for saying my opinion of this season would depend on what happened on the ice before the trade window are now evolving their opinion based on what has happened on the ice.

Then I misunderstood what you were trying to say. I understood you said Dumont could/should discuss trades, but I thought you were saying he didn't need to decide on any trades before Xmas. Sometimes you have to make a decision before the window opens. Thats all I was trying to say, thinking you were trying to say Dumont couldn't possibly need to decide anything until Xmas. And I am not shouting you down, nor am I changing my position. I still say you guys should be buying for this year too, but also buying for next year. You bring in 2 19 year olds that will return as 20 year olds now, that means you bought for both years. The beauty of your team's current situation is that it doesn't have to be one year or the other. You have an opportunity to take a run at the title in both years. With upgraded goaltending and defense I still say you guys should win the division, and should get at least to the league semi-finals this year if you do that(and who knows, possibly further). Great experience for all players involved to use in next year's push for a title.

I didn't mean you when I was referencing people who shouted me down At least you can admit when you misunderstood a post rather than constantly repeat what you misunderstood in countless threads and ignore the clarification Just like I said back in the original Darcy thread, there are probably trades that I could get behind and I wouldn't mind a few deals that helped CB get playoff experience this year (I believe I called them tweaks). I was just against the idea of CB truly "going for it" this year which would require some serious buying at the deadline. I'd rather see CB do that a year from now and just use this year as an experience/development year for a still young team.

Leask is my hero has it right. The reason we still buy at Christmas no matter how badly we underachieved is the #3 seed can still be won by us. I think most agree that defensively we have stunk so far which has cost us at least the 8 points we are out of the division lead.
Saint John has been the opposite to us. They overachieved to this point and I doubt they will maintain the pace they are on especially if they are looking to host the memorial cup next time it's the Q's turn.
So as long as we don't overpay at x-mas, the right move is to acquire 2 year players not 1year rentals.

We could do some tweaking this year, but I think our two year window may be this year and next. Consider that two (Farrell and Darcy) of our top 6 will be gone for certain, with the possibility of the third (Svechnekov) not returning. Unless we add this year, with the exception of Dubois, I don not see any of the remainder (Simard, Farrell,Boucher, Brunelle)etc being able to carry the load on offence. The remaining three of the top six(Lazarev,Pelletier and Bishop) will be in their 19 year old year.Just my opinion. Also remember that this year coming is the year we have the glut of picks,so a decision will have to be made to use the picks or trade them.

Would not mind picking up either Tremblay or Whitney, if the price is right. Don't think 20 year old goalies are worth too much at this time of the year.
