The end of trade period is a good idea. Each team shares the potential loss of points in the standings while the extra time would give a better estimate on time missed. It would not be the first time the initial diagnoses was wrong.
Moncton signing off on getting an injured player gone for the season would suck. Each person is different on how they recover. People put strain on the other knee during rehabilitation.

It doesn't look like a dirty hit to me ... Donaghey tries to side step Smith and the knee gets caught. You can't see Smith stick out the leg but a different camera angle might show more. It certainly was no later than any of the other 30 hits in this game.

It certainly was no later than any of the other 30 hits in this game. With the injury I expect Smith to get 5-10 games. That seems excessive ... 2-3 is what I see ... and only because of the injury. He was pretty much standing still and Smith is finishing his check. This isn't your typical open ice hit that catches the leg where both players are moving toward each other at a decent speed. If Donaghey doesn't sidestep the hit then the knee injury doesn't happen ... but that is the case in most of these hits. If I could see Smith stick out the leg in reaction to the sidestep I'd agree ... but I don't see it from that camera angle ... and didn't see it last night. This whole approach of suspending the hitter for these is a bit weird. If the guy doesn't sidestep the hit there is probably no suspension and probably no injury. By sidestepping ... he creates the offset hit situation. As long as the hitter doesn't stick the leg out to get a piece I don't see it suspendable. When Donaghey sidesteps ... there is nothing that Smith can do to change his course.

I wonder if , on the 19th , Moncton doesn't get a couple of decent picks to even things out.

I mean maybe we're over looking something like picks headed to Moncton as well as the players. It just seems so lopsided for Quebec...

Even a compensation pick if Sweeney plays as a 20 year old ( 70-30 chance imo). Both GMs know it's pretty good chance. What do Quebec's picks look like in the next couple of drafts ?

If there is a compensation pick coming next year if he plays in the league as a 20 then the deal would actually look good for Moncton. Quebec doesn't have a whole lot of picks but next year they have most of them. I think it's fair to assume the 2017 first traded for Verrier would be going back for a player at some point since they still have their 2016 first and you would think Drum would have asked for that one if they were actually getting the pick, especially since Quebec should be weak next season. lhjmq.nouslesfans.com/t4316-banques-de-choix-2015-2016-2017
