And that was a low year for scoring in the Q as Couturier only had 95 or 96 pts. In the W, Kozun had 107 pts, one ahead of Eberle. In the OHL, Hall and Seguin were tied with 106. If McDavid hadn't broke his hand we wouldn't be discussing the CHL top scorer. He has 83 pts in only 33 games. You might not be even discussing it in the q if Ehlers hadn't missed so much time 74 points in 37 games.. Yes ... he'd be right up there and perhaps ahead of Garland. But Barbashev missed time also which affected Garland's point production through that period ... so you can't consider one without the other. When Barbashev left for the WJC, the Wildcats were red hot and scoring goals in bunches. When he returned ... it took a good 2 weeks for him to get back into the swing of things. Also, at the beginning of the year, our top line was Tkachev-Barbashev-Lalonde ... and so was our first PP unit ... and Garland played with Askew and I can't recall who else ... Johnson maybe. In the first 10 games of the season he had 8 pts because he didn't have highly skilled linemates and wasn't getting the PP time he gets now. When Lalonde and Tkachev went out hurt, he took off. There are always a lot of "what ifs" in every hockey season ... but they count for nothing. One Question ... why was Ehlers eligible for the WJC and the World Jr A championship in Saskatoon (I think) ? How does he get qualified to play Jr A and WJC when he spent the previous year in Major Jr ?

I think the answer is that the Junior A thing is a rather informal event put on by the CJAHL to promote Junior A hockey in Canada ... there are no real concrete rules on eligibility, especially for foreign teams, since in some countries they may not have the same junior hockey structure as we do ... As for Denmark, I think part of the agreement to get them to come to the event was that they could use it as a tune-up for the World Juniors.

Something that went unmentioned from yesterday's game ... Will Bower had a very spirited scrap with Danick Crete. Both guys landed several shots and neither guy quit even though they both got in trouble in the fight. From what I saw online (no replay) I'd have to call it a solid draw ... good fight for both guys. Bower had thrown a hard hit which prompted Crete to instigate.
I appreciate Bower more and more as the year goes on. He gives an honest effort every shift ... plays a very physical style ... kills penalties ... does a good job as a defensive center and is improving on faceoffs.
I could see him as the Captain of this team in a few years. He is starting to remind me a little of Ryan Penny.
