Now that we can and should start talking about this again. I think this is 100% what should be done. Even if Ehlers doesn't come back the new Euro might still be a goodie. So not counting on him to put up Ehlers like numbers but let's be some what aggressive and say the new one can put up maybe 65 to 75% of the numbers Ehlers did. Which is a point or slightly better a game. That puts us in a very comfortable position. Do I think that this is a title built team? No but it could be a start and when it comes to playoffs you never know. Our defence will be a year older and place Donaghey in Hardie's spot should be an up grade on a QB for the PP but a down grade on PK. Also we will have at lest one 1st rounder that should bring us a good player that by no mean should we rely on but help out some. I'm thinking twice the out put of Crossley. There's another player who I hope learned a lot from this experience and works on his play and come back and maybe put up numbers like Fortier did this year. If we get these improvements we could make so noise again come playoff time next year? In addition to Resop(assume he came with no offers if you like) they also added another FA goalie that was wanted by a few other teams. To sign him they had to offer him a fair shot to play, I would expect. Resop with this better backup(he played too much in a row) sounds like a situation that lets the first be used on a need vice a luxury. So Brassard(20), plus new drafted 1st goalie, and return on Resop as you want. vice Resop, plus FA goalie, new drafted 1st forward, 20yr old forward and return on Brassard. In a year you dont go for title anyway. I didn't say in my post to draft a goalie. I said we had a 1st rounder that we could use and get a player that maybe could give use twice the out put Crossley did. The kid from Cole Harbour could back up Brassard too you know.

You responded to 100 percent thats what you should do on drafting young goalie as suggested. I know you suggested at the end a player in the first round too but not clear on him being x2 Crossley this year. Was thinking you had suggested trading up so they would get Bower in a trade(more cost) in another post. Thing is the drafted/FA goalie has no place and Brassard would not sit much for a rookie. They are going to ride him for points under your scenario/reason to keep. Anyway its just an opinion, perhaps someone wants the goalie bad. Halifax could trade the pick too with a weak draft outside the top. Brassard could already be gone as planned so the whole thing unfolds as it has started shaping up. I just like to see assets maxed in a down year. Trading 20s of value is one way.

You make good points all around and I don't really disagree with any of them besides the Brassard being traded already. I think there might have been talks and teams interested in him but after the playoffs I think Halifax's asking price would had to have changed. Now also his demand might have gone up a touch too. A team like Moncton who has a huge hole in net got to see first hand how good he can be. Now don't get me wrong they way I'm talking here makes it sound like he's the next Jesus. That's not the case he just was never given the chance to really shine and he got it here than ran with it. His number don't lie, 14 games and 559 faced, saved 507. That's just nuts. He did everything he could besides score to give moose a chance.
Also yes I did throw the question about Bowers earlier too. I do think it would make sense to kick tires with Bathurst to see what they want for the pick, if the 14yo from Quebec is allowed to play. If the price for that pick is the same as what Halifax paid for Drouin I make that trade everyday. Is Bowers the next Drouin? Nooooooo! Will he be a good Q player? I think he is going to have a real good Q career. For those who don't remember the price Cam paid to pick Drouin, it goes as follows: 1st round pick 4th overall, 2 3rd rounders and a young defensemen. The 4th pick would have to be a 7th is really the only difference.

They have assets and higher first. Drive the price up as well.

Cape Breton's priority though is likely to be more for vets so if they are to make a move you'd think it would be in that direction rather than someone in the draft.

Who do we have from the 2014 draft that is likely to make some noise in Camp next year? Im assuming Dachyshyn will get some time if he doesn't go NCAA. What about Dom Blain-Dupuis, Gabe Vanier, Eddie Banville?
Also does Marino report this year?

With the development of the D and also picking up Donaghey I think we would have a surplus of good defensemen.

I like Brassard.... always have.. glad he showed he could be the guy... but assuming your numbers are correct.. that is a .907 save percentage.... very good but hardly nuts and 52 goals against (maybe some empty netters) in 14 games... that's not nuts either is bowers the next drouin? hahaha or is he the next Darcy? sorry couldnt resist

Had his moments, mainly early, but let it a lot too. Then again many of the goals were quick shots and one timers from the high slot area from their best players. I think his weakness is on the blocker side as he got beat a ton on that side. Overall though he kept us in the games (6 of them anyway) and was at times great.

He only played 14 games and averaged 36 saves a game. That's nuts. An average game a goalie usually sees 27 to 32 shots.

If they can get something decent for Brassard they should. But he's a 20 year old goalie who's never been a no. 1 goalie for an extended stretch. He's good but not great, therefore his market value isn't what you may hope it is. He'd be a good back up for someone, especially a contender.

I would seriously entertain the Meier trade offers/potential ASAP. Anyone looking to contend, that has an open euro spot, should go after him. Not many guys can play the game he plays, with the combination of size and skill he has. See if Cam can pull in a few big assets for him. Draft two new euro's (forwards). Draft another forward with our Q pick (maybe try and move up too). We may have to use Donaghey until Christmas, get his value back up. Then he should be considered for trade too.
With the defense core being so young and similar in age, we need to bulk up the forward group in that age category too. We will be on the right track to have everyone maturing to theirr potential again in a year or two.
I don't expect Ducharme to be around past next year however - maybe this summer even though we have him signed for another year. I am sure he is already eyeing the pro jump.

Unless the teams GM is Marcel. Here's the other thing that your not looking at. Their are a bunch of teams that need a goalie. Do I think teams will over pay for Brassard, No. But with what he did in the playoffs, he has shown he can be a number one and give a team a chance to win. If a team gives up a 2nd rounder for him you would have to take it. If it was just a 3rd I'm not sure I make the trade. A 3rd plus I think you would have to move him too. It's just what do the moose think/ want to do next year?
