We will def have C Fitz, Ford, and Nauss next year but what are your thoughts on the rest of our Dmen? Tallifer? J Fitz? Hunter? Argento? Will any of these 4 make the cut next year? Taillefer, Argento are locks.

Taillefer, Argento are locks. I agree. Tallifer came a long way this season. If this was said at Christmas time I would argue it but Tallifer played really well down the stretch and did his job in the playoffs. He's still a bottom pair guy but he deserves to be here next year. He just need to add some strength to help his all around game. Make him stronger with the puck and clearing the front of the net. Argento looked good the times he played. He might only be the 7th guy and get a game here and there but he'll be fine. I think Hunter will be back too. His size is what helps him and I think if he was healthy he would have help clear the front of the net against Moncton. Which could have helped big time in that series. He needs to work on his puck handling and he will be fine.

Cavin is the #1. He has earned it.(short season and all) they should have a much better d core then last year. Tailliefer is the odd man out in imo, if we get the american kid to come up he will have to fight for his spot. Curious as to why you say Cavan has earned it over Ford, other than having more points (not to forget Fitz played on the PP wheras Ford did not). Cavan has offensive talent and is a beast on PP, Ford has great feet and is as consistent as they come, I think either one of them can get #1 or #2 depending on Mario/Donaghey.

Ford will take Hardie's minutes next year IMO. He'll be the stay-at-home dman on the top defensive pairing. He has puck moving skills, but he isn't going to quarterback the PP. His game is defense. He has a little more offensive potential than Hardie, but I believe he'll fill Hardie's roll here for three more seasons. I really enjoyed watching him progress throughout the year.
Ford - Donaghey will be our top D pairing IMO. C. Fitzgerald and Nauss will be locks to make the team... just not necessarily on the same pairing. Then it remains to be seen. Taillefer and Hunter should be there, but it all depends on if Marino is here, or if we draft a dman early that will make the team as a 16yo. There are always surprises in camp that could make it as well. No one could guessed Jacob Jacques would fill a roster spot.

There is no question Ford improved and became a pillar on the backend by the end of the year. I think he is going to be one of our top 3, but Cavan is our top guy. He played in every situation and played probably the second most minutes to Hardie. Can anyone really go Cavan didn't deserve those minutes either? I can't think of any games where you can say wow he played like shit. Off the top of my head I can't even think of bad plays he made. Cavan is our number 1 guy I don't even know how that's up for debate.
I just to be straight here, I really like what Ford brought to the table though. He has a good two way game. He put more on the defensive side and showed he can be a shut down guy. He isn't afraid to jump up and help on the offence when the time is right. As it stands right now he's just not as good as Cavan is.
As it stands right now I think your looking at Cavan/ Donaghey as pairing 1 and Ford/ Hunter number 2. If John Marino does come the only thing that will change is Hunters placing.
I was holding back info on Marino last year because I didn't want to get the people who told me mad over this and lose trust. Some might know this but for those who don't if Marino was going to come I think this past season was the season for it. His father was here in town for a week to 10 days durning training camp. In that time Cam was giving him the royal treatment to try and sell him on why his son should come play in Halifax. Needles to say he didn't exactly bite.

I agree that Cavan played in all situations and has a ton more offensive upside than Ford. I also agree that he had a great season, especially considering the injury that took him out for the first part of the season. However, I think that Ford is a better shut down guy who is more mobile than Cavan.
Saying that Cavan didn't make any bad plays (or that none come to mind) is not quite accurate, I can remember quite a few times that Cavan gave up the puck on the PP and Ehlers had to bail him out, I also remember a few times he got beat which lead to a goal or a scoring opportunity. That being said, I do think that the pairings will be determined by who they draft and who reports. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Seems everyone agrees that Cavan and Ford are top 4......seems that should be good enough.....how they show up to camp will determine everything else.....let the boys enjoy their summer

It sounds like Cam has his eye on someone. I know there's not really any secrets in the world of hockey anymore but I hope he finds another Gem. I will say Ehlers seem to be the best kept secret for the moose until he played here.

I don't really agree with picking two Euros this year. Meier should be back. And if he's not, then we're really not in any position to win hockey games next season. So it'd be better to draft just the one Euro, and save the 2nd slot for the 2016 draft when our pick will be a high one. No sense taking up a Euro slot on a 2nd round pick when it's not a necessity.
