Halifax will not be in that 5 at the end of the year. Points are going to be tough to come by in our division. With CB, SJ and Char all being potential contenders ... and Moncton being an older hard working team ... and 44 of your 68 games in the division ... it will be real battle almost every night to get a point. Even the top teams in our division may be handicapped (a golfing term) ... their record may not show how good they really are ... and getting first overall may be very tough from this division.

Even with Meier we are going to have a hard time scoring this year. Don't mark my words.

The only team in the original poster's 5 that should be guaranteed not to be there is Sherbrooke. Substitute Drummondville for them and that is your bottom 5 though as a Mooseheads fan I would love Quebec to also be a part of that bottom 5. Halifax is probably better than some of those teams in Quebec like Baie Comeau, Chicoutimi, or Quebec but with our division shaping up the way it is the Mooseheads probably finish lower in the standings due to the relative strength of the division.

I agree, Sherbrooke has possibly the best defense in the entire league with a solid young goalie and a good offense. They will be closer to top five than bottom five. Drummondville likely has a draft lottery team.

It's nice that we can sit back and relax, not really worrying about how the Moose finish this year. Hopefully we can get some picks/prospects for Donaghey at Christmas. Meier and D. Moynihan will be tougher sells. I'm still going to enjoy going to the rink and watching these kids improve. What's our magic number to clinch a playoff spot?

It is never nice to not worry about where your team finishes. Its like you take a year off from being a fan. We love sports because of the ups and downs and the drama of the race. If you guys do finish in the bottom five, you will be worried about making the playoffs so there will always be a race to watch. I think the Moose will be a better team than their record will show because of so many tough games in the division. I think you guys will be in a pile of low scoring one goal games that you will come out on the wrong end of. Road trips to Quebec might turn out to be more lucrative.

As unlikely as it will be to actually happen, best case scenario will be for Quebec to tank hard so we get a 50/50 shot at #1 overall and then for the Mooseheads to get the last playoff spot so our pick is #3 but the kids also get the benefit of a 1st round playoff beatdown . Picks 1 or 2 plus 3 , high Euro pick, kids play a lot of minutes and get some playoff experience. I think the Mooseheads can sell this year and not have it hurt the kids through losing a lot of games. 2010-2011 saw a lot of losses and kids like Lewis, Andrews, Ryan, Frk etc weren't hurt by it. That said I think Quebec finishes around mid pack due to their division and having Booth in nets. Mooseheads at worst finish around 14th just because Ducharme is too good a coach to let us finish worse... unless injuries ravage the team and then the Mooseheads could be in the lottery conversation. I could deal with a crap season if it meant getting into the #1 or #2 overall scenario- I just don't like the thought of getting into this scenario again which is back in 2011 I was pissed off when we beat Baie Comeau here in Halifax and even more pissed when we passed RN and CB later that season and ended up at 4th overall for that draft- it worked out in the end but a lot of things went right for the Mooseheads that spring.

Quebec is more likely to sell then Halifax I believe. Booth would not go because of Mem Cup but this year does he leave for a shot at one? He could be a big part of their rebuild.

I always want the Moose to win, and I'd rather them be good than not good. But I also understand how junior hockey works, and I understand that we're not going to win a Memorial Cup any time soon. I wouldn't call this season a waste of a year. Hockey is fun to watch regardless of the strength of your team.. for different reasons. But it's almost like I'm more stressed out when the team is good, because in junior hockey, you sometimes have a one year window to win, and then it's back to square one. We're rebuilding, so there's no pressure to win every night. If the Moose are in the 15th-16th range in the standings, I'd would 100% rather them be 17th and in a lottery spot. Call me a bad fan, but I'd rather that lottery pick than get smoked 4 straight in the first round. The 16th place team has won 1 game against the 1st place team in the history of this playoff format. The Moose got beat handily by Montreal in 2011 when they were the 15th seed. As I mentioned, hockey is fun to watch no matter what.. but that was as close to not fun to watch as you can get.

The worst part of a season as a bad team is having to play a stacked team in round 1. I wish the league would go to a more radical playoff format just to eliminate more teams to prevent it from happening.

The bye is lousy for business, and lousy for player development. You'd have to go to 8 teams to get away without a bye ... and again ... not getting as many players that valuable playoff experience ... and some teams need that 2 game playoff gate often to make ends meet. The only switch I'd like to see is a switch to two divisions of 9 ... bottom of each division miss the playoffs. 1st vs 8th and so on ... plus a crossover in Rd 3. Just like we use to have ... sort of.

Stressing over all of that stuff is what is a big part of the fun of following a team from beginning to end. Blue Jay fans are loving the stress for the first time since 1993. Watching your team play out the schedule with nothing on the line is not entertaining. Watching your team lose 8-2 on many nights is not exciting hockey. Watching your team play 55 minutes in their own end of the rink is not fun to watch. Watching the 20 YOs lose interest on the year (see Bathurst) is not fun to watch. To me ... even though I will be there every night (unless out of town) ... that is not very entertaining. Sure it is interesting to watch young players develop and begin to stand out .. but that is a small consolation on a very difficult to watch season.

Yea, even though part of me really wants a lottery pick, I still want the team to win every game I watch.
This weekend was really exciting, that SJ game was in reach until late in the 3rd, and the Charlettown game we lost in a shootout. I still want to go see them pick up 4 points this weekend because It's fun to watch your team win.
