Not sure what this trade means exactly. Could just be just to add some depth for a very tough stretch of games coming up in December. The price goes up to a sixth round pick in 2017 if he's still with the team after the trade period.

Reports saying Michael Joly has been traded to Cape Breton. The price tag: Two picks including a first rounder plus a prospect. Pretty steep for a half-year player. That's a great sign for us if Rimouski is selling. Hopefully Guidon is headed to Moncton. Rimouski has called up Gabriel Morency, their 5th round pick in 2015. They seem to be getting ready for life after Guindon. Almost sounds like a trade is happening very soon.

I think they only have 2 20s and are starting Fitzpatrick on a team that should be better than 12th place. This would seem to be their go for it year with most of their best players being older.

Is Sweeney not hurt? They could be picking him up for two weeks then dumping him just to give the team short term depth. Coulombe just filled the same role for Shawinigan while Taylor was out. That's what I was thinking. Sweeney is out 3-5 more weeks according to the first reports. If that's the case then Moncton has had terrible asset management when it comes to 20s. Giving up a fourth and an eighth for two players (Fortin and Coulombe) who won't even be on the roster after Christmas. That's very questionable considering this team is not even a real contender in the league.

If Moncton is going to contend it's better to do it from a top seed than the 5th or 6th seed. Spend those picks to keep you up in the standings. It could pay off later in the year, and you'll never miss them.

I went back and looked at the 2010 and 2011 drafts for fun (as these were guys who would have most recently completed their Q careers) ... the average player from the 2010 draft in the 8th round played 40 career Q games, in 2011 it was an average of 19 games. With such a short tenure, you can infer that the average player picked in the 8th round of either draft is basically a replacement level player. From this, you can infer that if you can use an 8th round pick to pick up an average or better than average player (which you would hope anyone playing as an OA would be), even if you are only going to use them for a short period of time, you will on average get more value out of your 8th round pick than by using it at the draft.

Shannon has said himself that he is surprised by how well the team is doing this year and thought it would be a down year. He has said he is not even sure what direction the club is going to go in. The team is worse than last year and even then they did nothing to really improve themselves. Other than this being Garland's last year, what gives people the impression that Moncton is going to add anything? They have weak goaltending and poor defence, they give up more goals per game than either Halifax or Charlottetown. In reality they are the fifth best team propped up by a division that is bad and has several underachieving teams. You have to give credit to Rumble because he is doing a good job making a team of mid round picks and cast-offs from other teams/leagues play this competitively.

You either contend or sell from that position.

With more consistent goaltending (which you get from a rookie), this team is better than last year. The defense is virtually the same as last year. The offense is much deeper than last year. Last year, it was Garland and Barbashev and whoever they decided to put with them that night. This year, the second and third line bring offense on a much more consistent basis. With one Dman and an improvement in goal, this team is a contender.

You either contend or sell from that position. We are pretend good. If the rest of our division could play up to their talent level we'd be in 4th in the division. We are only 1st in the division because SJ, PEI and CB have been disappointing. I have no illusions of how good this team is ... simply not a contender. We could spend to get a goaltender but still be a pretender. I've seen some great teams in Moncton over the years and this isn't one of them.

Probably because the team is extremely deep offensively. They have three good lines and a pretty decent fourth line on most nights as well. Guys like Askew, Murphy and Bower have all taken big steps forward from last year and Wiederer and the Klimas have all been better than expected. This makes them much more dangerous than last season, where the opposing team could just focus on shutting down Barbashev's line. If you add a top goalie and a first pairing defenceman then this team is instantly better than last season. Not saying that's what they will do, but it's certainly reason to believe that they could.

Tesink has played well when given icetime and deserves to play. Kosack has looked good. We add Coulombe and Mooney and I doubt Mooney is coming in to sit if he is giving up NCAA options. As mentioned. .. Glassl will be away for awhile ... and Sweeney out for a bit longer. But that still leaves 7 available dmen ... and Tesink probably on the outside looking in. Coulombe is likely a Temp. Could they maybe tell Glassl to stay home after Xmas ... he has been hit and miss. If they do that then we are back drafting 2 more next year ... something you'd like to avoid.
