Next Friday, the CFL commish is coming to Halifax to make an announcement, no idea if it is a big one or not yet. He is doing a cross Canada tour to all the CFL cities and Halifax is on the list. I don't think he is coming for an annnouncement but I could be wrong.

Rick Howe was saying he heard from different sources that the CFL Commissioner is coming here to announce the CFL team in Halifax is a go. They are building the stadium in Dartmouth Crossing. They are going to have a contest to name the team and within three years of the team starting here they are going to have a Grey Cup here in Halifax. He even mentioned that the Province has agreed to build a connecter for Highway 102 to Highway 118. That is a lot of specific information for it just to be a rumour.

Thought of a name for our team. How about the Atlantic Alexander Keith's Heads.

The guy heading the group for the Halifax franchise made comments that it wasn’t true and that the CFL hasn’t been awarded to them... I guess we will see.

Councilman Matt Whitman was on Rick Howe after this meeting and he said something to the affect that he was very encouraged with what he heard. Something like that. He is a Pro Stadium person. Also I heard a quote that said the process is just outside field goal range for a team being awarded to Halifax.

Alright, I will go through the list of Councilors and predict how they will vote. Keep in mind it hasn't been made public yet to what exactly they will be voting on as far as land subsidies and how much money the Municipality will put into it. Streatch - yes Hendsbee - yes Karsten - yes Nicoll - yes Austin - no Mancini - no Mason - no Smith - no Cleary - no Walker - yes Adams - yes Zurawski - no Whitman - yes Blackburn - no Craig - no Outhit - no If I am correct, no wins. There is no way I can be 16/16 though. haha I'd assume provincial money would have to go into this as well, and what are the chances of the Liberals voting down their end? Not likely.

I should also add, the councilors who said 'no' to money going towards a stadium said they would vote for tax incentives on land use. So If it is only provincial funds, then this thing is a slam dunk to go through.
Having a CFL team would be great, but the tax payer in me says this is bullshit. Would the business spinoffs and property taxes made from new growth in Dartmouth Crossing (the supposed location) make up for the cost of building and maintaining the stadium? Not likely. The billionaires have figured it out, the only way to make money in pro sports is if the taxpayers or peasants pay for the stadiums. This fact isn't new info, I just find it depressing.
Also, cities are getting away from building in the suburbs. If this can't be built in the Halifax City Centre (encompassing the area in the proposed Centre Plan), then this might be a disaster after a few years.
