Won’t happen and there is no political appetite to pay for a stadium.

I’m not a huge CFL fan but will watch a game every now and then. If Halifax got a CFL team, I could easily see myself attending a couple a season.

Sounds like this idea is really picking up steam. Obviously the stadium is the only major hurdle. But there's enough private money around to get it done. a 20-25k outdoor stadium isn't a super sophisticated or expensive project in the grand scheme of things. I'm beginning to think this will actually happen.

www.cbc.ca/sports/football/cfl/cfl-commissioner-expansion-halifax-1.4420090I've been hesitant to chime in on this one because this topic seems to come up every couple years, and it gets shot down every time for one reason: The city is not willing to spend the money on a 25,000 seat stadium that is going to sit empty for 350 days/year. In my opinion, there would have to be a joint partnership between an NASL (North American Soccer League)ownership group, and a CFL ownership group to bring a stadium here to Halifax. Having both of those leagues in town would get more use out of the stadium. The odd special event and concert would also help. But then there's the fear that those two leagues would steal fans from each other. I'm also hesitant on how much support a CFL team would get here. The last thing Halifax would want is for this to bomb, and be left holding the bag on a stadium with no permanent tenants. The Saskatchewan Roughriders have less population within an hours drive to draw from, but they've been in the league for 107 years and have a solid footprint. One interesting stat is that there seems to be a correlation between how many summer sports teams are going in one particular city, and average attendance around the CFL. stats.cfldb.ca/league/cfl/attendance/2017/We see that Toronto's attendance is the worst, in the biggest city. But they have the Blue Jays and Toronto FC as well, both of which would be bigger draws. Montreal's CFL attendance was a little shaky as well, and they have the Impact taking fans away. Saskatchewan had the best attendance, in the smallest market. I'm not the biggest football fan. I might watch the Grey Cup tonight but probably not. I would try to attend a couple CFL games if they were here, and would more than likely attend playoff home games. I hope the amount of University kids in town in the fall would help attendance. I'm cautiously optimistic as the cliché goes. I hope the city does it right. There will be more people in Halifax against spending any public money on a stadium than people for it, so it has to be a solid pitch and a good, broad strategy to make sure it doesn't become a burden. I can't wait for the 2020 QMJHL Winter Classic between Halifax and Moncton to be in that new stadium.

I'm beginning to think this will actually happen. I think this happening is more realistic than it has been in some time. As long as the public isn't on the hook for it in a big way financially 9building a stadium, which has been a major hurdle for this type of project for years), it has a chance to be more positively received. Kind of hope it does happen; would go to a game to see what it's like.

I am hoping the ownership group will ask fans to put down a deposit or just take names of people who will be interested in Season Tickets. I think this would obviously give them an idea of the interest and let them know if this whole thing is worth pursuing.
