Brassard and Sheahan to Florida for McCann and Bjugstad plus 3 draft picks

Brassard and Sheahan to Florida for McCann and Bjugstad plus 3 draft picks Nice deal for both I think. Brassard hasn't meshed very well there and Bjugstad could thrive with a Crosby or Malkin as his C. Florida gets some picks and opens up cap space for a Panarin type this summer.

Brassard and Sheahan to Florida for McCann and Bjugstad plus 3 draft picks Interesting trade. Pittsburgh likely got better in the short and long term, Florida shed contracts(Brassard and Sheehan are UFA's) and added picks. I assume Brassard and possibly Sheehan will be moved as a rental as Florida is 11 points from a playoff spot.

Shows how poorly run the Oilers are...

Shows how poorly run the Oilers are... RNH has 2 years left after this @ 6mil. Not sure whats left to gain by keeping him at that cap hit. Talbot would be a good depth pickup for a contender. There's really not much else to move unless they're willing to purge their blueline a bit which wouldn't hurt since they seem to have a pile of #3/4 guys. Moving the ones with the most value might be their best bet right now. They're definitely not going to improve by keeping everything the same there.

I agree there, the best moves they can make might hurt them this year, let’s be serious, they are not winning a cup anyways, but benefit them long term. Still not sold on Koskinen in nets despite good numbers. It will be really really hard to win a cup the next 5 years, they rely so much on their top 4 skaters(3 best forwards plus Nurse) right now, plus they have a bunch of money in dead weight that will be hard to move…cup winners have stars/superstars but what really defines them IMO, is that 2nd and 3rd line depth where you can’t just hit/shut down one line at playoff time. Might be the weakest NHL roster from #5 to 23rd player. They also do not have a lot of young guys in the pipeline either.

until we actually start seeing significant trades, offer sheets being used, big name free agents leaving their teams instead of resigning (Tavares did last year but we will see if that's simply a one off)... i'm not buying the click bait articles the talking heads have to generate to maintain their jobs
in news that actually happened.... Randy Carlyle finally fired yesterday in the midst of a 7 game losing streak.... after already having gone thru a 12 game losing streak earlier this season..... yet somehow the Ducks are still technically in a playoff race... the turtle derby for the final playoff spot in the West might actually make this years trade deadline even more boring than the past several have been.... teams that by all rights should be not in contention for a playoff berth are... might keep them from selling off what they should

Columbus isn't going to throw in the towel and they're about the only team who can really control how exciting the deadline becomes. Watching Adam McQuaid go for a 5th rounder in 2020 is going to be the excitement of trade center this year while the talking heads creams themselves over the 34.6% of cap retention and how it both sets up the Rangers rebuild and helps push a contender over the top...

The off season should be more interesting, I see a much better UFA crop, I think Ottawa loses at least 2/3 of their top scorers plus Gardiner likely moves from TO, Karlsson I think stays in SJ, Panarin should hit the market along with Bob. I expect Eberle Nyquist and Skinner to hit the market also. The RFA’s will be a big storyline with Point Marner Trouba Tkachuk Aho and a few other top guys needing deals, they are now pushing for big money in their 2nd contact.

I think the Ottawa guys move(at least 2 of 3), plus Skinner and a few others, some relatively big deadline names.
