Can’t see Carolina not matching this one even with all the upfront money. Habs would’ve needed to go to 9.5-10 imo. So perhaps it’s a tool more so to engage the Canes in trade talks.

I think that Carolina will match it ............but the only thing that I can't help but think about is that the Carolina Owner just lost 9 figures on that American Alliance Football League that went Belly Up half way through their Season .

The only way to go for The Habs I guess.......nobody wants to go there as a Free Agent . He is a free agent..... Aho has to sign the contract... Yes but he is Restricted .....I should have stressed Unrestricted ......and he has signed it but he has never expressed any interest in leaving Carolina and said all along he wanted to stay .....he probably is praying they match it .

Of course they’ll match it. But you said players don’t want to sign with Montreal and go there. He literally signed this to go play for Montreal. Obviously he was willing to go there.

The reality of it is that it was probably just a way of showing their fans that they are trying to do something .....instead of nothing .....well above the signing of Kinkaid .

If Montreal was really serious about signing him they would’ve gone closer to 10 million. But they stayed just under the comp level for 4 1st rounders. You can’t have multiple offers out at once so Carolina probably waits the full 7 days to match. Matching immediately helps Montreal.

They actually stayed under the Compensation of 2-1sts a 2nd and a 3rd .....not 4 1st's .

Can’t imagine canes don’t match But here’s to hoping The issue is, Dundonald is in deep financial trouble and it would cost him 21M over the next 12 months.

The offer was built on bonuses, I heard it was the most they could pay in bonuses, raising the cap hit would not have squeezed Carolina any more, it was all about the first 12 months and Dundon being in financial trouble.

Even if Carolina matches, the Habs will make moves, there are a lot of players on the block and teams that need to shed money to get under the cap with a full roster(TB Toronto LV Winnipeg).
