Dallas fired their coach today for unprofessional conduct..... that one came out of nowehere.... He called out Benn a month ago. Not sure if it would be related or not… Doubt it ... unless he said or did something behind the scenes, his calling out of Benn would hardly seem to be a firable offense. For what it is worth, several reports are saying this is not connected to abuse of players or any type of racial or other slur.

watched press conference... so vague it hurt
basically jim Nill became aware of something over the weekend that recently transpired... they investigated and decided to go this route this morning.... says it is unrelated to NHL release from Bettman yesterday..... nothing to do with current or former players and is not a criminal matter but would say no more

Purely speculation though with nothing to back it.

*yawn* Hard to believe he was league MVP a short time ago. It's a rental price basically. There could be another 1st going to Arizona if he re-signs. I don't think it's a terrible return for a rental player having a off year. There's risk that Arizona takes on a guy that continues to struggle and doesn't make a big impact and signs elsewhere in the offseason, which is entirely possible. This is only considered bad value if Hall turns back into Hart trophy Hall and signs in Arizona long term. Then you have to wait to see who those 1st round picks become.

Hall would be a very good rental at that price for a contender. Weird move for Arizona, reeks of desperation. Maybe it works out great, the West is weak and wide open as we saw with St.Louis last year…plus they gave up no A assets other than the 1st.
I’m not sure he is a guy I would pay mega bucks for at his age. He plays a high risk, net crashing style and he’s had a lot of impact injuries in his career. That 10+M cap hit might look terrible when he is 32-33-34.

The price for Arizona is fine. Just overall an underwhelming return for a guy who won a Hart 18 months ago. I understand he's UFA and checked out of NJ. But for a high end guy NJ ended up getting some scraps thats comparable to what UFA's go for but still has to leave a bad taste in your mouth if you're a fan of NJ. I look forward to seeing who gives Hall his next big deal. Already seems to have "getting people fired" written all over it based on his moody attitude he's seemed to have had since day 1 in Edmonton. But maybe he turns it on and he and Kessel find some chemistry and they go on a run.

I get it from the "nothing else we've done has worked" perspective. But I'm with you on the long term deal being a tough one to give to him. At this point you'd think he'd accept less to play with a team like say SJ where he can just fit in. Very interested to see what plays out with him on July 1.

great deal for Arizona if he plays well and they finally get to the playoffs again ..... even better if they sign him to an extension..... they covered their ass by protecting the first and New Jersey is paying half this years salary..... and they kept all their top prospects save for Bahl......
for New Jersey it's a haul of mediocre prospects that really only turns into a very good deal for them if Hall signs an extension and Arizona wins a round turning bthe conditional pick into an extra first.... and if one of Merkley or Schnall can become a player down the road

Good deal for ARI also a good move for NJ. They get quite a few pieces back. NJ has been fortunate to get the lottery twice and they have learned that gives them this flexibility. Hall may be better than all these players but u have to pay him. Pay him to keep him when there is endless opportunity to replace him with these prospects who are good to very good.
Remember when Merkley dropped at the draft. I know we all were thinking that players like that tend to bounce back with a vengeance to prove their worth. I think if you consider him the star piece going back it's a mistake to think just that. He is part of the trade but he would have been a good draft pick 2 years ago too and should have gone higher.
If Arizona can stay afloat this is great for that franchise. And Arizona can pretty much outbid any team to keep Hall if they want to. They can decide that later. I think it's good for Hall be back in that conference on that type of team. His demand will go up.

Are you talking about the right Merkley, not the one in SJ(Ryan) who dropped due to off ice “baggage” ? Nick Merkley has had a lot of injuries and this season he only has 16 points in 26 games in his 3rd AHL year, his career is at a crossroads. IMO he is not a main part of the deal. The two main assets are the 1st rounder(top 3 protected) and Bahl. Merkley seems like a guy NJ is buying low on hoping a change of scenery will help him.

I think it’s a piss poor return for pulling the trigger on a deal this early. You’re gonna get a prospect like Bahl, a 1st and conditional 1st at the deadline no matter what. The other players involved are throw ins and non-legit NHLers. It’s a rental price but I just don’t get why they’re moving so quickly on a deal that’s shit.

It was more of a "get him out of here" deal. They were sick and tired of his attitude. They could have got 1sts for other pending UFA's. And maybe they will. But this was an MVP not that long ago. Without a massive cap hit that they still kept half of. I wouldn't be shocked if they get more or even comparable for Vatanen.
