Things finally looking up in Ottawa with the departure of Craig Anderson the Suns signed Matt Murray a proven and solid Goaltender out of Pittsburgh, resigned some of their young talent, and avoided arbitration and today they said former standout from Montreal Alex Galychenyuk I remember how much I hated Galychenyuk then Montreal used to play Ottawa he was so good.

I think Ottawa is headed in the right direction, but they have a couple more dark years before they can aspire to the playoffs. Losses: Pageau Duclair Ennis Namestnikov Borowiecki Anderson Demelo Hainsey Ryan Additions Dadonov Murray Watson Galchenyuk Gudbrason Brown Likely Batherson Formention Stuetzle Zub? Brannstrom? I think Murray should be better than Anderson at 39, but the team on the ice at this point are younger and probably worse on paper as they are getting younger.

Definitely not worse on paper but yes not likely playoff bound anytime soon
Being younger in todays game is not a bad thing.... signed enough veteran talent to complement youth to be a team that competes every night.... dadonov is a great signing

Still think not playoff bound? Let's see what Dorion has done in the last 2 days
brought in Derek Stepan only gave up a pick, got Paquette and Braydon Coburn who I remember liking in in Tampa only gave up Nilsson and Gabroik who go on Tampa's long term injured reserve list so won't even play this season and a 2nd round pick. And they signed German Tim Stuezle.

gonna be very tough to land a playoff spot ...... but they certainly are greatly improved on paper going into the season thing with hockey is it's important to be built to beat your most relevant opponents Ottawa is creating an identity. Some physicality that some other teams they will play 9 times don't have. Same with Calgary. Those teams with big physical presence going to be bitch to play that much. I get why everyone is all Toronto/Edmonton for the flash and skill but what about when guys get hurt? And they will. And I dont trust the psyche of those other teams in adversity in a short season. That's why NHL is so fun. Everyone likes what Ottawa us trying to do. Its not my team but I totally respect them and wouldnt be surprised if as the season gets on they are right onnthe doorstep. Familiarity of opponent favours them. They only need to focus on 6 opponents. True for everyone but teams like Toronto dont want to play that way. This schedule is not as friendly to Edm Tor Van IMO they be better off with a new opponent every night. It's the best scenario for Ottawa.

gonna be very tough to land a playoff spot ...... but they certainly are greatly improved on paper going into the season They had basically a 72 point team last year. They have added some veteran leadership, but on paper IMO they are worse than last year. Likely better in nets with Murray(though he was up and down the last few years in Pit) vs Anderson(who declined last year). On D they lost Demelo Borowiecki Hainsey and added Brown Gudbranson and Coburn. At best it's a wash, likely a small step back on a D that was already awful. Brannstrom could help in transition ands offense, but not the quality of shots given up. Up front they lost a lot of offense in Duclair Ryan(though he missed 2/3 of the year) Ennis Namestnikov and Pageau and added Dadonov Stepan Paquette Watson Galchenyuk, they added sandpaper but offensively likely a step back. Stepan has not done much the last 2 years, Galchenyuk is a journeyman who quickly wears out his welcome and Dadonov will miss Barkov and Huberdeau. Some of the young guys should break in but they won't be in a position to be offensve catalysts. I expect Ottawa around 50 points, similar pace to last year, weaker division but a bit weaker team overall.

You aren't factoring in growth of young players in your analysis
and you go on about decline in guys like Stepan but then say they lost alot of offense in Ryan and Duclair..... Ryan's scoring has been in decline for years and Duclair scored like one empty netter the final 20 some games
i think they will be one of the most interesting teams to follow this year..... they may surprise or they might just be a last place team thats hard to play against with several moveable assets at trade time

Also when speaking of players coming in like Dadonov and not noting they played under a coach like Q that demands accountability how that may benefit his new team. A player like that may have benefited from being with Barkov/Huby but he may also have helped them succeed.
The guys coming in from TB also really make it easier to coach the team. Unless they have bad attitudes. And these ones have strong resumes as team builders.

Some of the young guys could be those players in 2-3-4 years but not in 2021. No matter what Duclair(23-17-40 in 66 games) did the final 20 games, he and Pageau were two of the 4 40 point players, that's production they need to replace from an already poor offense. with Ennis and Namestnikov that's 4 of the top 8 scorers. I think they need big leaps forward from young guys just to battle for a playoff spot.

Will be interesting but weird to watch the battle of Ontario without fans, I guess by now I should be used to that but it still seems weird. Go Sens Go, I didn't even know till this morning they played the Leafs tonight. Will see how closely I end up following this year, life has changed so much for me that I have found myself not watching as many games the last few years they still are my team and I still do follow them. (Plus the Last 2-3 years have been hard to watch being in the basement and almost knowing you were going to lose every night, I guess being a Mooseheads fan diehard loyal and following them in some dark years it made the Presidents/Memorial cup win so much sweeter, I guess just means It will be extra sweet when the Sens finally win the Stanley Cup hey Matt Murray has a Stanley cup ring and so do some others like Brandon Coburn)

Dubois has to end up in Ottawa, right? They seem to have all the other former Eagles playing pro in their system.

Great Game by the Sens last night, Leafs had them hemmed in their zone for a bit in the 2nd but they managed to survive. I think Ottawa is going to be a fun team to watch this season; as alluded to last night they are going to be a hard-working physical and fast team. I saw the end of the first and the 2nd . Not to knock on Anderson, but nice that Murray can stop the puck I commented on one of the Leafs's shots to my boyfriend last night that Murray stopped Anderson would have let that in. Hoping for another good game tonight, And now Sens let's go prove everyone wrong that had us finishing 7th.
I know it's one game but what did everyone else think of Ottawa's game last night? Like I mentioned the key for them will be staying out of the box. (I was really impressed with Batherson, Paul and Norris last night and well Chabot was just doing the Chabot thing; I remember not being a fan of Batherson when he played for the Eagles just being a Mooseheads fan he is a really good player; I think Ottawa may surprise people in a few years with all that youth and if Murray can have a good year)
