Braves take Game 1 .......6-2 . A Costly Win on the Road to start things as they lost Starter Charlie Morton to a Broken Leg off a Guriel Line Drive ( he actually continued pitching until the pain just became too much ) . They got the Jump on them in the 1st and didn't look back .

what time was the game over? after 1am Time to bring in the robot umps and legitimate pitch clock. The MLB obviously doesnt give a shit about our time zone but even east coast viewers gotta be dropping off after 11pm on a weeknight.

The people who get up in arms about robot umps are just comic relief to me at this point. How many more errors need to happen by umpires before we go to a system that removes the human element and strives to just get shit right? Or here's a crazy idea that goes against the traditional grain but keeps the humans on the field: Stop the ancient and insane rotation of umpires every game. How does a home plate umpire go from the most important job on the field calling balls/strikes to standing on the right field line? The absolute best umpire in Major League baseball might actually umpire 2 games in the World Series. And follow it by standing on a foul line.

what time was the game over? Late NHL games were ending. I'm a night owl but its impossible to get to the end of some of these games without flipping to another game or TV show when there's so much going on right now. Call me crazy but I almost feel like they're missing out by not starting earlier then everything else to try and get peoples viewership locked in before anything else starts. You start that game at 6:30est and its over at 10:30est which is way more of a primetime across the continent as you get the end of the game happening as the West Coast is getting home from their work days...you also get TV viewers watching before any NHL/NBA starts and before any primetime TV catches peoples attention. I think they're slowly killing their future by putting games at a time where its impossible for adults on an entire coast to see the game.

I find the NFL, NBA and NHL do a better job of getting to young fans with earlier starts. MLB is still popular but mostly in big markets, having games these late plus half MLB teams being in non compete situations has to impact revenue at some point.

it's ridiculous the time it takes to play a game of major league baseball
it's a huge reason why i don't follow it like i once did... and why my son and his friends have such little interest in the sport..... whereas when i was their age i was hardcore as were most my friends... i could name the starting rotation and starters on pretty much any team in the league..... nowadays i don't even know more than half the players on the one team i do follow (when they're good)
anyways

It used to be visits to the mound, but that's been curbed a bit since the days of Posada visiting Pettitte 23 times an inning, but there is still too much time between pitches. another major factor nobody talk about it all the foul balls to run up pitch counts. 30-40 years ago there would be 100-120 pitcher per team over a 9 inning game, now it seems to be 150-180 or more if it's a high scoring game due to guys "working the count" by fouling off a bunch of pitches. This also extends games.

Now there's barely anyone over .300 and some teams have regular every day guys under .200. Its become harder and harder to watch MLB faithfully due to the shifts meaning everything is either a K or a HR and there's not much in between.

In a lot of cases the absolute best umpire isnt even umping in the playoffs because he doesnt have enough senority to get ahead of Jerry Meals & Co. Insane system.

Honestly I understand every thing you guys are saying but now I find myself looking forward tuning into watch more Baseball then in a very Long Time ...........and it's all The Blue Jays Fault . The Struggles the Franchise had during the Pandemic , moving from Dunedin to Buffalo then finally getting back Home to Toronto , The Young Kids who never whined , Hell the Whole Lineup , I find Must Watch TV . I grew up a Yankees Fan .....But these Young Jays have rekindled my Love for the Game of Baseball . I love watching them and I am already looking forward to Free Agency , Spring Training and Opening Day .........and it's all The Blue Jays Fault !
