Perhaps but they had to do something and that emergency act lets them easily freeze the money coming in from foreign countries that are behind most of the cash flowing to these idiots. They are not at all peaceful. If I sat outside your house in a big rig blaring my horn your family would certainly not be in any peace. Just because there is no physical violence doesn't necessarily make a protest peaceful. These folks have been breaking local laws for weeks now and if the municipality won't enforce their own laws (which they are not and why the chief ended up resigning) then at some point the feds have to do something and starting by killing the funding was a common sense place to start. They're not freezing GoFundMe's of local people with diseases or house fires who need a lifeline. They're freezing the accounts of people who are refusing to follow the law and are essentially just being a nuisance. At some point a protest is answered with democracy. These people simply are upset they didn't win the last election. You can cry and whine about it outside Parliament Hill but when you're trying to over throw a democratically elected government and refusing to leave until you do...you absolutely cross over from peaceful protestors to domestic terrorist in my eyes and that line was crossed once the Pat King's joined the cause. You can't go there with an MOU to overthrow our federal government but also be called a peaceful protestor when also you're defying every noise bylaw in the city and demanding the Prime Minister do certain things that his political base elected him to not do. These people can protest at the ballot box next election like all Trudeau haters. But there's nothing peaceful about disrupting our national capital for 3 weeks. Whether you agree with the truckers or disagree it is still an overreach of the government to invoke the Emergency Act for this. Everything the police is doing now, they could have done two weeks ago. They just needed the numbers that they have now and that is not because of the Emergency Act. Arresting the leaders and die hard protesters would have been enough. The main part of the problem is Ottawa police refused to do their job from day 1. All they had to do was enforce bylaws and it never gets to this point. OPP and RCMP had to be brought in because of that.

Arresting the leaders and die hard protesters would have been enough. After 3 weeks of noise and chaos and attempts to disrupt our political system its not an overreach in my opinion. Luckily voters will again get to decide via democracy. Not via Pat King and his idiots touting an MOU to overthrow our democratically elected politicians. Hundreds of illegally parked large trucks are not easily moveable no matter how much we'd like to think its as simple as towing them all out. After 3 weeks of the noise and disruption to local residents this had to broke up and if that Emergency Act and cutting them off financially was what had to happen then I'm glad it finally did so they can be moved out and life can go on for residents of the city of Ottawa. Unless you think our politicians should be walking to work daily next to protestors who are really just extreme right wingers and in some cases white supremacists looking to further their cause. As thats exactly what the Pat King's are and why they've attached themselves to this cause. Once your cause has swastikas and anglo saxon bloodline conversations involved in it its time to pack up and go home. That was about 20 days ago for these folks. This political protest can be had at ballot boxes in a future election. Our national capital has to get back to normal.

Bringing in the OPP and RCMP has nothing to do with the Emergency Act. They could have done that at any time. The protests at the border have all been cleared without the help of the Act, so what do they need the Act for. It's a huge overreach. The Emergency Act is there for when the country is under attack and it is a far cry to say that that is the case at the moment.

Some tow companies are hiding their logo's while they tow some of those vehicles out while other companies are still refusing to participate. There's huge fear among the tow companies and local cops that these idiots are about to get even more extreme as they get dispersed from the city. OPP and RCMP are 2 weeks too late. It was obvious from day 1 that with no proactive measures to keep them out of the city that local police wouldn't be able to handle it. Bylaw's and tickets would have had no impact to these idiots. But the provincial and federal governments should not have taken this long to get in there and begin the clear out. But killing their foreign funding had to happen first or else all Ottawa would have been doing is pushing them to a Toronto or a Montreal if you let the cash keep rolling in.

Pat King and people like him being involved means its political and we were absolutely under attack as a nation as white supremacists like him use this cause to push his own agenda which is really just anti-government and nothing to do with covid or vaccines. Residents in our national capital told to not leave their homes. Politicians told to not go to our federal political home. But our nation wasn't under attack? Coutts protestors with a truck full of guns wasn't an attack on our nation? This is 100% all an attack on our nation. Attack doesnt have to mean guns, assault, and aggression. Attacks come in many ways. And this was absolutely an attack on our nation once the Pat King's took up the cause and then refused to leave and tried using international crowd sourcing to fund the deplorable idiots also taking up his cause.

If you dont cut the funding off first the arrests are just replaced with more followers. Everything that group stood for caused any overreach. And anyone living and paying taxes in that city seems to agree. And at the ballot box Canadians can decide whether they agree with the response because that is how our country works.

The fact that the government can cut off funding and freeze bank accounts without any legal back up, repercussions or recourse is very scary in my eyes. This is a constitutional democracy. They still could have gone after the protesters through the courts, the way it should be. What you need to ask yourself, is this power acceptable in the hands of your enemy? Cause you know it can be used by anyone now. What would have happened if Trump would have used similar powers to cut off funding and going after donations for BLM? The whole world would be going after him. So be careful what you wish for.

One thing that kind of stood out to me watching on TV off and on all day was not seeing a single obvious case of Covid amongst the protesters - nobody coughing - no mention of local hospitals being overwhelmed with such a large gathering of unvaxxed and unmasked people in close proximity to each other - and not a single mention by the media.
The protesters lost big-time as far as gaining support from the public the longer they stayed - but - I don't know - it's kind of becoming apparent that just lifting the mandates is the best thing to do nation-wide going forward.
The protestors might unwittingly have ended up having made a statement after all - simply by having no huge Covid outbreak during the protest itself?
I'm just sayyin' - not meaning to be seen as picking one side or another. It really didn't have any effect on me over the past three weeks - one way or another. Definitely a headache for the residents though.
I lived in a dorm at the university for a year on Nicholas St.
Skating on the canal was unbelievable - you could go for miles with little warming huts along the way - continuous cleaning of the ice by tractors - and you were allowed sticks and pucks. It's a beautiful city.

Cause you know it can be used by anyone now. What would have happened if Trump would have used similar powers to cut off funding and going after donations for BLM? The whole world would be going after him. So be careful what you wish for. The government can freeze your account for not paying child support. If they were using this act to freeze random bank accounts you'd have a point. They're not. It's very clear whose accounts are being frozen and why. This IS a constitutional democracy. But at some point a blockade of our national capital has to end. You don't get to stand around and disrupt people lives for an indefinite period of time because you don't like a government policy. If Pat King and other white supremacists from international countries were backing the BLM crowd with 60% of their funding I would have hoped Trump would have done something about it. These people are using children as props. You're acting like these are quiet people having a peaceful demonstration vs a politically driven group of fringe right wing ideologies who are trying to support the over throwing of our federal government while our official opposition stands with them. Blockades of national capitals can't go on indefinitely. It was never about freedom or vaccines or mandates to these people. Its about not liking Trudeau. Has anyone ever told their teenager to "get over" being upset at something? This is the adult version. At some point you have to accept that in a democracy things won't always be as you like. You can fight to change...but at some point you absolutely 100% have to accept certain things you may never like because life isn't always fair and you never get your way. We all know at the most these people are losing a couple of runs. Not their entire careers as truckers as the industry made sure we were well aware of 30 days ago for anyone who would listen. But still you're here representing them as this peaceful group who is being bullied. Essentially arguing that until they turn violent they are within their rights to completely block and make a mockery of our national capital and its tax paying citizens. And our of fear that an enemy could use the same powers on us? My enemy are the idiots who had a truck full of guns in Coutts. The people using their children as shields. The white supremacists like Pat King who took an opening and the cause said "come on in" and help lead us. The MAGA hat wearing official opposition leader who proudly stood with these idiots. My enemy isn't the people who have been trying to keep Canadians alive for 2 years and compared to other nations have done a great job by most measurable statistics. Enemies would have lied in January of 2020 and told us this will all go away and will be of no bother to us. Some politicians took that route. And the base they were going after is making up not only the ideology who attacked the US capital in January of 2021 but the same folks who think some vaccine mandates (all being lifted thanks to data, statistics, and science) are ruining a livelihood as the industry and fellow truckers all show us how that is not happening.

Pick - pick - pick. . . I'm sure I used the phrase "no obvious cases of Covid amongst the protesters." Don't you think that the media and local health authorities - plus the head cowboy - wouldn't all be screaming bloody murder if the local hospitals had filled up and overburdened the system with Covid cases due to a large gathering of unvaxxed - unmasked protesters from all across the country who were in close proximity for three weeks with no social distancing? You seem to have a bit of a pick on for me every other day Jacques - and to be honest - you don't seem to be doing very well with the hit and run tactics I'm trying to be cautious with my posting to not pick sides and not ruffle feathers - and I'm even cutting back on sayyin' fukkin' - just to get along. . . I don't claim to be an expert on anything - I'm handy with a flyswatter though. . . Really enjoying posting on this forum the past few weeks - having fun - well - except for the week I had my account deleted - and then another week when I was in the dog house on the banned list - but the rest was all good. Why are people so picky? Shouldn't people be looking to add to the discussions rather than just being limited to picking at other peoples' posts? LOL - just asking - because some posters are very clearly limited.
