Luke Patterson who played a handful of games with The Eagles this past Season is having himself one helluva a Telus Cup as is his Moncton Flyers as they are currently undefeated . He should be a welcomed addition to The Eagles Top 9 Next Season .

The Charlottetown Islanders have advanced to the 3rd Round for the 4th Time in 5 Years . Mr Simon if you read this Board (which I doubt ) , just think about that for a moment............ A Small Market Franchise who I don't think have a Rich Owner like ours but they found the right guy in Jim Hulton and got out of his way and let him do things his way and the Proof is in the Pudding . Hey Bois and the Other Islander Posters..............Don't let this Guy get Away .

Daigle and Patterson could turn that 2021 draft from good to great if they keep progressing as they did this season.
I think we all see Squires as a future top 6 leader. And Perron has all the qualities of a top 4 shut down D.

We’re going to need to follow it up with a great draft this year!

And Perron has all the qualities of a top 4 shut down D. This is the kind of thing I hoped for when I started putting together player profiles of our Atlantic prospects last year - being able to look back a year or two down the road and evaluating yourself and what you saw in a player. Having said that - and I don't want to sound overly critical - but I think the Eagles' scouting group is their weak link as far as on-ice product. I only scanned the lists on the league website to see who our Maritime based Q teams drafted over the past few seasons - but it did seem to jump out that the Eagles wasted a lot more picks in the top half of the draft than the other Maritime based Q teams. I could be wrong with that assessment - and they sure seem to have identified a top prospect in Patterson who the CSR scouts had ranked in rounds 6 to 8.
2005 C LUKE PATTERSON 6'0" - 168 lbs. Shoots: LeftSEASON | TEAM / LEAGUE | GP | G | A | PTS. | PIM | 2018-19 | Moncton Hawks NBBAAAHL | 21 | 17 | 14 | 31 | 18 | 2019-20 | Moncton Hawks NBMBHL a | 24 | 27 | 30 | 57 | 59 | 2019-20 | Team NB U 15 (ACC) | 5 | 7 | 3 | 10 | 2 | 2019-20 | Moncton Flyers NBPEIMMHL | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2020-21 | Moncton Flyers NBPEIMU18HL b | 12 | 6 | 12 | 18 | 14 |
a - Named to 1st All-Star Team b - Won NBU18 championship Luke Patterson is a speedy center with a choppy, bent over skating style who is strong at threading passes to the open man and the trailer. He's very quick on the forecheck and forcing turnovers and is also strong on the backcheck. He had a huge season in U 15 last year finishing 3rd in scoring behind only Bradley Nadeau and Justin Gendron. He also showed well with the NB U 15 team at the Atlantic Challenge Cup leading the way in goals (7) and points (10) in only 5 games.
He continued his impressive scoring pace this season with the Flyers and led the team in assists (12) and points (18). His +11 was 5th on the team and his CORSI (74) was 3rd. He wins 54% of his puck battles (4th) and his scoring percentage of 21% was 4th. He completed 85% of his pass attempts and all 12 of his assists were first assists with linemates often needing only to tap the puck into the open side as he put the puck on their tape with goal- mouth passes.
Luke needs to get a bit stronger, but with another year of U 18 - he should compete for a Q roster spot. He is ranked in the 6th to 8th rounds on the final CSR list.

What I noticed from his stats is that Patterson also had a solid playoffs stat wise last season but it was only 4 games so it can be hard to look at short sample sizes appropriately. But he did similar in bantam with the big leap forward in year 2 so hopefully these are great signs for him in 2-3 years time after a solid season of top 9 ice time in the Q at 17.

Hopefully tonight, the Eagles can break this jinx of the past few years, and the last place team actually wins the 1st overall pick.

Eagles will pick 1st, that's if they don't decide to trade down again.

Depending how much someone wants this # 1 ranked D, or #2 ranked goalie, trading down could make sense this year for the Eagles. The Eagles priority would seem to be a top forward selection. If any or all of Victoriaville, Chicoutimi, and BC show interest in moving up it would seem to make sense this year for the Eagles, especially if there is any truth to the rumour of them moving the 11th overall for a 20y/o.

Let's hope having the 1st overall pick and the 5 picks in the first two rounds has the same positive effect on the Eagles franchise that the 2004 draft did with fewer top selections that year.
