Brutal "no goal" call tonight. At worst it was inconclusive (that's being generous) and the call on the ice should have stood. I can't see how they could call that a distinct kicking motion. Bieksa and Botterill trying to defend it was cringeworthy too I thought. Their entire argument was that he disguised it well. Zero attempt to view it through the lense of "was it a distinct kicking motion?" The problem is that there were so many worse pucks off of skates were called goals during the season. There is just zero standard or consistency. I'll also take this opportunity to say its time to move on from Ron MacLean. I'm sure there's some niche interviewer role he'd be better in but as the host of the main broadcast i'm finding him unwatchable at times. I find McLean the king of useless information. He will go on a tangent about how this guy's father was the rink attendant when Dale Hawerchuk played minor hockey somewhere and so on...

What I also don't like is the puck was probably going in the net without help. The point of disallowing kicked goals is for player safety. I think its time to revisit the rule and re-define a kicking motion as what a kick is actually is.

I think its time to revisit the rule and re-define a kicking motion as what a kick is actually is. People keep saying that and it is true but unfortunately that point doesn't apply here. The last thing the puck touched was Coleman was what the puck was doing anyway isn't factored into the review. The black and white of "was it a kicking motion" seemed clear to me. He was trying to stop and didn't kick at the puck. What they need to do after this is just come with a clear enforceable standard. Thats a goal up until last night...wayyyy worse have been called goals for years now under this rule. Do they need to redefine it or just admit they've screwed up a lot based on that decision because either A) That's a bad call or B) there have been dozens of bad calls...either answer is a bad look on the league as all of these are decided in Toronto by the NHL.

Plus Montreal has their first rounder and it's a lil better pick now boo hoo Sutter say goodbye to Johnny hockey Someone mentioned over the last couple of weeks how Calgary somehow managed to have an expiring UFA have a career season without the media making it the overwhelming topic every single day. Imagine if Toronto or Montreal had someone in their prime put up 115 points as a pending UFA and it not be a daily news item? He was under whelming in the playoffs. That won't stop some American team from throwing 7/70 at him though i'm sure.

Tough loss for Edmonton, Smith couldn't make the big saves to get them at least a win.

apparently he was arrested shorting after and is facing multiple charges. Could serve jail time I'd say.

MSG has already banned him for life.

I think TB wins in 5 if Point is ready for the final. Goaltending gap is huge.

I think TB wins in 5 if Point is ready for the final. Goaltending gap is huge. Toronto almost beat Tampa with Campbell. The Avs are deeper and have a better D than Toronto has.
