They called him up with Allen out about 6-8 weeks ago but he was just coming back from an injury so they likely didn't want to throw him out there. Right now he is their highest upside option in nets, they should give him next year in the NHL to see if he will be an NHL goalie and trade one of the other two depending on value. For me the highest upside option they have in nets is Dobes but he’s really not being hyped or talked about a lot. I think Primeau is as good or better as a prospect. He had as good NCAA career as Dobes. He's been very good in the AHL, last playoffs he was Laval's best player on a run and this season he makes them go. He's been victimized by all the injuries in nets the last 3+ years, Price for extended periods, then Allen and Monty at different times, getting called up to mostly just sit and play sporadically. Plus with all the Habs injuries, Laval is usually down 5-8 players at different times. I'm not saying Dobes can't eventually be better, but IMO Primeau needs to be in Mtl next year instead of going with 27 and 33 year old goalie in a rebuild. Dobes will be 22 in two months, would be a good time to sign him to play AHL.

Once again I will ask , are we this unlucky or are we........................ SOFT ? I don't think any athlete on the receiving end of an injury they literally have no control over can be classified as being "SOFT" Hal, can players be injury prone sure but its not because they're soft it has more to do with the years of wear and tear they put on their bodies to play a sport at the highest level. If anything the injury troubles the Habs have had this year is more so on bad luck and possibly a potentially poor medical team.

When it starts happening year after year, I have to start wondering about the medical team.. it could be nothing and literally just bad luck but it does make you wonder, since it’s not like it’s the same guys every single year. It seems like it’s a lot of different guys, with different injuries.

I think there is more than enough circumstantial evidence for the Habs senior management to take a long hard look at their medical team, as well as their training and sports science staffs. Are they following current industry best-practices? What needs to change to get them there? With all due respect to head physician Dr. David Mulder - the man is a legend ... but he has been with the team since 1963 ... it is possible that he is no longer the man for the job.

This is my thought 200%. They need to pay somebody to evaluate their program A to Z after the season and make changes if needed.

at the same time with only a handful of meaningless games left in the season..... there is zero reason for anyone to not miss the rest of the season if injured at all
but i agree based on the recent history of man games lost...... a full examination of their medical team is overdue

The Habs have a lot of interesting decisions on goalies this off season.(ages in 2023)
Montembault(27) has another year left at 1M AAV then UFA Allen(33) has two more years left at 3.85M then UFA Primeau(24) has two more years at 890K and loses waiver exemption in 23-24
Dobes(22) just signed for 2 years at 925K(80k AHL) and likely splits time in Laval.
Poulin(33) was on an AHL deal playing 27 games for Laval. Vrbetic(21) was playing on an AHL deal and needs an ELC by June 1 or he is FA. Dichow(22) was playing in the Swedish League and needs an ELC by June 1 or he is FA.
I would like to see them trade one of Allen or Monty and have Primeau get 30 NHL games, then sign a veteran to split time with Dobes, Ideally an NHL deal so they don't yoyo Dobes every time a goalie in the NHL is banged up like they have done with Primeau. I would sign one of Dichow or Vrbetic to start in ECHL and get AHL games.

Not sure what they should do ... going into next season with a tandem of Montembeault and Primeau would seem risky ... but not sure I would be ready to cut bait with Monty just yet ... but with Primeau out of options a decision likely needs to be made - one of Allen/Monty/Primeau will need to go. Agree that they need a #3 who can bounce between AHL and NHL - leave Dobes alone in the AHL - maybe he even starts out in the ECHL - that is not that uncommon for goalies.
