85 fights this year in 612 games. 0.14 fights per game or about 2 fights every 14 games on average.
Compare to 398 fights in 2012-13 in 612 games. 0.65 fights per game or about 9 fights every 14 games on average.
A lot of this has to do with the new, stricter rules on fighting. But whatever the reason, the league was already seeing far less fights 10 years ago than they were 20 years ago. And now they've reduced fighting by another 78% in 10 years. I'm all for reducing fights as I don't believe they add any entertainment value to the product anymore. I'm more concerned for the people in the fight or the incident that caused the fight than I am entertained by the fight, if that makes any sense. But I also feel like politicians saw an opening with their handout back in 2020 to push an agenda for political gain, and they did it.
Will we see full cages required in junior hockey at some point in the next 5-10 years? Can suspend players for taking off their own helmets or their opponents, which would almost completely eliminate fighting. Would prevent most eye/face injuries (I don't know if the cage can get pushed back into the nose like a visor can). Would vision be negatively affected enough not to do it?

I can't see the cages coming to the Q but NCAA does it so if it's good enough for them it's good enough for the Q. Bedard didn't have any vision problems with his fishbowl at the WJHC.

Junior A is going full cage as of next year, apparently being driven by insurance companies. I figure CHL will likely happen in the not too distant future. I don't buy the vision argument - if the NCAA guys can see well enough to play with them, no reason anyone else can't.

New rules -Game Misconduct for fighting -1 game suspension for instigating -2 game suspension for being an aggressor Imagine if this happened out of the blue in like 2005? The hockey world would have had a meltdown.

New rules -Game Misconduct for fighting -1 game suspension for instigating -2 game suspension for being an aggressor If you're gonna fight, fight in the third period? Check the schedule first so you know if your suspension might cost the team in the next game. Hope its the division bottom dweller playing next. It does have an interesting wrinkle. Most fights are in certain games. Score out of hand, division opponent playing for 4th time in 3 weeks.Teams that really need the win wont want be shorthanded let alone lose players to suspension.

The one thing they're doing with the conditions is really eliminating it from peoples thought process when it comes to the game itself. Is a coach really going to be there calculating how many games he can do without his captain do go prove a point? Are the players going to be really weighing if missing next weekends road trip is worth jumping the guy who hit someone from behind? Or is everyone just going to start letting 99.9% of it go unless it's an extreme outlier of a goon attack situation where there's no thought and just rage? I mean I think we're already mostly there anyway. But this really cements it. Go check out your local boxing and MMA cards if you want to watch 2 guys fight. And go to the local pubs in February if you want to see it happen on ice.

The league that bans fighting (I'm ok with that) still accepts that Rimouski goes on with concrete boards from another era. Villeneuve is out with a concussion.

Oof, that looks nasty. I hope he's okay... I wasn't aware Rimouski still had stiff boards... tho I guess it's not THAT surprising with an old rink.
Still, that should need to be fixed, those boards didn't move AT ALL.

Lalancette says in another post that Rimouski's city council still isn't convinced of the necessity of investing millions to change the actual boards with the modern flex boards.

I mean, that's a lot of money, I assume they'd have to like... re-do the entire floor at that price tag? The plan is to change the boards and put the two benches on the same side, which is what the CHL asks if Rimouski wants to bid for the Memorial Cup. They also plan to buy a new scoreboard, add private boxes and many other work in the building like plumbing.

I mean if you're gonna skate full tilt attempting to put someone thru the boards maybe hit the person
That's a concussion likely in any rink running head first into boards at that speed
also totally unrelated to the subject as there would be no reason for a fight there... dude concussed himself
