The Windsor series is just nuts. They made a huge move to get Shane Wright from Kingston. This will rank up there with Charlottetown sweeping the Mooseheads a few years back.

The Windsor series is just nuts. They made a huge move to get Shane Wright from Kingston. This will rank up there with Charlottetown sweeping the Mooseheads a few years back. Similar given the strength of the two teams. But Halifax didn't spend the farm to get anyone that year. It would be a tougher pill to swallow for Windsor. What's going on with Shane Wright? Consensus #1 pick in the 2022 draft forever. Then drops suddenly. Goes to the NHL and does nothing. Goes to the World Juniors and does ok, but doesn't dominate like a player of his caliber should. Captains by far the strongest team in the field but a team that arguably weren't as strong as they looked on paper. He's doing ok with three points in this series but is a -5 and his team is one loss away from being upset in the first round. It seems like he's underachieved for the last calendar year.

I don’t think he’s underachieved, I think the expectations have just changed or should have but people still see him as the exceptional status 15 year old with sky high expectations. The player at 15, shouldn’t be what we expect now. I think what should be expected is a player who does a lot of things really well but not one who stands out as an elite player at any one particular thing. He’s going to be a steady, cerebral presence for a team who can score 30+ goals and may even have years where he spikes closer to 40 because he can shoot a puck but he’s not going to be a play driver. He doesn’t create on his own that way but he can score goals. To me he’s a 60-70 point guy, who can play a full 200 foot game. He can be a valuable piece to a team and help them win games but he’s not a Matthews/McDavid type of player. People still just view him as that but that’s not right.

He is underachieving in the playoffs. He should be leading his team to more offense as he did after Windsor acquired him. He had 15 goals in 20 games and 37 points. In the playoffs he has 1 goal and 3 points, that is under achieving. They didn't acquire him to only score 1 goal in the playoffs and be a PPG player in round 1. As for his year, I would say outside of the playoffs he played well. Sure he didn't crack Seattle, but he is 18 and Seattle is a playoff team. Not many 18 year olds make an impact on a playoff team. He was a quiet PPG player at the WJ's while still being one of the younger players. He was just outshined by Bedard. His conditional stint in AHL was great as was his return to the OHL. But in the playoffs this is well below the numbers that he should be driving, and what he drove last year. But this hole is not just on Wright, it's collectively a disaster across all aspects of the team.

True about Windsor but Kitchener is not your average #8 seed.
They started putting it together. Made their own moves to make a playoff run. Never had trouble putting puck in the net this season. I had them ranked in top 30 and in fact 19th coming into this week. Lately they haven't resembled a 1 vs "8th" place team.
They rested guys the last day of season or may be playing London instead of Windsor having coughed up the final game.
Too bad for Windsor. But all the teams in that conference 4 through 8 were going be tough outs. Saginaw, Flint, Guelph (another that started season horrendous), Owen Sound (flirted with div lead first half of year) and Kitchener.
By comparison in the Q the 1 vs 8 matchups look nothing like that western conference of OHL. But Windsor didn't do enough. The winner of that bracket should be able to take either North Bay or Ottawa in the finals. But Kitchener doesn't surprise me. Last year they also knocked off London.

that whole Western division in the OHL could surprise...Kitcher was a +17 in goal differential for the regular season and finished above .500 and still finished 8th...pretty strong division overall and Kitcher was only 5 points behind 4th place...
Still crazy with how stacked Windsor is to be down 3-0. Also for a team in 1st place they allowed a lot of goals...265 GA in the regular season. Where they have teams like Peterborough finish 4th in the east division and only allow 207.
Kingston missed the playoffs and allowed less goals than Windsor lol.

If you are keeping track from Wednesday night:
Sherbrooke, Quebec, Halifax in the Q; Peterborough in the OHL, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg & Seattle all move to round 2 having completed sweeps.
North Bay drops another - head home for game 5 tied with Mississauga.
Prince George (in the only WHL 2-3-2 format series) ties their series with Tri City so they know they get a game 6 back in BCs north interior.
Baie-Comeau ties it up with Moncton so game 6 will happen on Easter Monday at Avenir.
Saskatoon return favour with Regina winning games 3/4 on road to tie things up. Regaining home ice advantage.
Shout out to Gatineau, Red Deer & Saginaw for taking 3-1 leads & don't forget Chicoutimi surviving now down 1-3 and heading home for game 5. Not a slam dunk anymore for Rimouski. Chicoutimi is the first team to defy elimination in the CHL.
