Its like the more they talk they justify the people who have tuned them out. His kid might be a part of the final death blow to this team if they keep letting him speak to the media. It's frightening listening to someone who sounds extremely lacking of any knowledge in the area he's discussing as a Vice-President within the organization. He literally in the same sentence said he didn't want to blame anyone then blames the past coaches and GM's. Everything Sylvain says about next year and preparing for it this year completely flies against many things said in that interview. Has the plan changed or will we be using the comments about not trading picks and wanting to be like Halifax and Moncton as comedy fodder for years to come? As an outsider, looking at the development in CB, I wonder if moving some of the pieces that you don't necessarily want to might be part of re-building the image of the team. If you could build a home ice calibre team next year but it costs you say the SJ 1st, Shields and Ricard, that would really hurt. On the other hand, Shields looks like he hasn't progressed, so making such a move might provide better insulation for younger players allowing Lavoie to improve and potentially creating some depth so that the picks you keep will have someone to play with. There's a big gap from SJ #1+Shields+Ricard to just Shields. I don't think anyone has issue with moving players not living up the potential but you also can't ship out every player who has a dip on the development curve. If the return makes sense and isn't just a deal to get older because of needing to win I think better insulating those younger guys is the real path to any success.

I think it's a bit early to state that Shields didn't progressed. He's a skilled, 5'9", 17 years old player that has to play a dump and chase type of game. If the 6'2"/200 overager can't produce in that kind of system, how can you expect Shields will break out with half of the ice-time? It's half way through the season. It's not too early to say he hasn't progressed because that statement is based on black and white facts of: 16yr old Shields: 64GP 12 goals(.18 per game) and 13 assists(.2 per game) for 25 points(.39 per game) and a 12% shooting % 17yr old Shields: 31 GP 2 goals (.06 per game) and 5 assists (.16 per game) for 7 points (.23 per game) and a 4.1% shooting % Saying he hasn't progressed doesn't mean he still doesn't have great potential. But the idea is also that when a Shields puts it all together he will be forcing you to play him. You're bang on about his ice time but can you honestly say he deserves more or do you think he should just automatically get it in order to push his development? I see both sides and think each player needs their own path and a Shields could be someone who needs the reps in live game action vs the pent up frustration of not producing but also not getting any ice time. I think if we move him we regret it based on the potential he showed at 16. But in a league where we have at max a 5 year lifespan of a Shields evaluating 1/2 of one of those seasons isn't too small of a sample size when comparing to a season where he was younger with less expectations. But we need to find ways to put him in a better position to succeed.

2023 6th round pick Alexis Toussaint finished first in scoring with 9 points in 6 games at the u18 challenge cup in Quebec. Eagles 14th round pick Mavrik Duhaime scored a hat trick in the championship game and finished with 5 goals in 6 games.

Newest Eagle Noah Larochelle officially added to the team roster on the Q site he'll be taking over number 19 as Euro Lubos Stahon has been removed from the roster.
Also removed from the team roster page was Charles-Antoine Lavallée so it appears he won't be remaining with the team the rest of the season.

No surprise there as he played all 8 games on the first or second line with PP time. Only one point in 8 games while Shields is on the 4th line.

I think it's fair to tip the scale on Shields towards bust territory now, he's not much of a contributor anywhere on the ice at this level. There is still time for him to figure it out of course, but my expectations of him have gone down to zero for now. I would have some cautious optimism that the corresponding roster moves today signal towards a Newcombe return sometime in the nearish future.

If the scale is being tipped towards bust on Shields and people in the organization share the same opinion, I’d be buying his stock while it’s low. I think it’s way too early to consider him a bust.

I'm still surprised that Val-d'Or wouldn't want either player as a throw in to help fill out their roster for the rest of the season. No shame in wanting to develop their younger players though I guess.

Down to 14 forwards on the roster now, so one more roster decision will have to be made in the future should Newcombe make his return this season otherwise the Eagles will go 13 and 8 the rest of the way.

Good opportunity for him to go on a deep playoff run, but he probably won't see much ice time once the team is healthy and together.

So assuming Newcombe makes a 2nd half return what do the lines and pairing look like at full strength is it something like this?
Squires - Burbidge - Patterson Newcombe - MacDonald - Houde Romeo - Roy - Fullerton Lavallée - Ricard - Aucoin
Biggar - Schmitt Cibulka - Lavoie Daigle - Shortall
